The aunt of former NFL player Sergio Brown has spoken out as authorities search for the 35-year-old Brown after his mother's body was discovered in a creek near her home.

Sheila Simmons, sister to Myrtle Simmons-Brown, said she last spoke to her sister on Thursday, Sept. 14.

Per her recount of the days leading up to the discovery of Myrtle's body, Simmons said, “We’re going to find out what happened because it’s not normal for my sister to not answer her phone, not to respond to text messages. People have been reaching out to her since Friday. No one was able to reach her."

She continued, "Now, I got the call this morning saying that she’s missing, so immediately I came out here and find out my sister is dead.”

Simmons said she first learned that her sister and nephew were missing on Saturday morning at approximately 3 a.m. after receiving a phone call, per WGN9. She did not reveal who the call was from, however.

Simmons said she went to her sister's Maywood home that morning and noticed that things seemed "out of the ordinary."

Myrtle’s next-door neighbor, Carlos Cortez, told CBS News, "She was an outstanding woman, and I'm hoping she's in the right place and she's with God. Like I said, I never would've expected this in a million years. You only watch this on TV. And to know this happened next door, it's a tragedy.”

Like Simmons, Cortez last saw Myrtle on Thursday, Sept. 14, according to CBS. He also told the outlet that police had seen footage of Sergio on his Ring doorbell. "They seen him taking out the trash, and they seen him have a bonfire," he said.

Concern has grown for the former NFL player's health, as Cortez claimed family members had told him that Sergio “wasn't himself the last few months. He was out of his mind.”

Well, this is getting even more bizarre.

Ex-NFL player Sergio Brown, who went missing after his mother was found dead in a creek near her Illinois home, appears to have surfaced in Mexico in a bizarre video posted to Instagram, claiming he thought his mom was on vacation and that he had been kidnapped by law enforcement.

The 35-year-old former player is believed to no longer be missing Tuesday after he was spotted in a bizarre Instagram Story shared on “intplayerwithapassport,” which appears to be a burner account for the player.

In the video, the former New England Patriots player addressed the news that his mother, Myrtle Brown, 73, was found dead near a creek behind her home.

Sergio Brown said he thought his mother was on vacation and that he had been kidnapped by the FBI and the Maywood Police Department.

He also makes several claims of “fake news” before going off on an incoherent rant, during which he accuses the Maywood Police Department and the FBI of kidnapping him twice from his home.

“They kidnapped me twice from home. The Maywood Police Department,” he said before his words became muddled and unintelligible.

“It had to be the FBI or the Maywood police,” he says to the camera as loud music blares in the background. “I thought my f–kin’ momma was on vacation.”

The video was allegedly taken and tagged with a location of Mexico City before being deleted and reposted without the location, Deadspin reported. His whereabouts remain unclear.

Well, that should be easy to prove when he left if he truly is in Mexico. If he wasn't there during her disappearance and murder then who did kill his mom?

Maybe it was the FBI before/after they kidnapped him

This article clarifies a bit more about what was seen on the Ring doorbell:

Former NFL player Sergio Brown allegedly burned his mother’s clothes before her body was discovered behind her Illinois home over the weekend, a neighbour has claimed.
Carlos Cortez, a neighbour of Myrtle Brown’s, told WBBM that he had given authorities Ring doorbell video in which Mr Brown is allegedly seen burning his mother’s clothes. The Maywood Police Department declined to comment on the allegations when reached by The Independent.

“They seen him taking out the trash, and they seen him have a bonfire where he burned all her clothes,” Mr Cortez said.

I'm guessing his went to the paranoid side and murdered his mom thinking she was someone else. Head injuries are nasty things, many never heal from them. Then add in any undiagnosed mental illnesses and alcohol or drugs and you have an untethered mind seeing things that aren't true. I wonder if mental illness runs in their family and if there was alcohol or drug use.

I saw mention somewhere (forget where) that he does have substance abuse issues...or had them in the past.

I'm guessing psychosis of some form from years of severe untreated head injuries.

Definitely something wrong in that man's head. Why in the world was he trying to reenter the country and why did he think he could even do so without being arrested? Maybe he was ready to get caught. Who knows.
