Ryan Furtado (32) was killed when a Peleton bike he used to assist him in getting up spun around and hit his face and neck, severing his carotid artery

The family of a New York man claims he was killed by his Peloton bike just six months after buying it, but the company insists that his own negligence caused his death, according to a lawsuit filed in state court.

Ryan Furtado, 32, was doing a ?core? workout on the pricey exercise bike on Jan. 13, 2022 when he disembarked to complete a few exercises on the floor, the lawsuit states.

When Furtado was getting up, he grabbed onto the bike to assist him, but it soon ?spun around? and hit his neck and face, severing his carotid artery and ?killing him instantly,? the lawsuit charges.

When members of the New York Police Department responded to his home, the bike was still on top of his neck and face, the suit states. It had been purchased just six months earlier in July 2021.

Sounds like a Final Destination kind of thing. In all seriousness, Peleton is having a lot of issues lately.

This sounds like a garden variety freak accident. I don't think it's Peleton's fault this time.

Also, further proof that working out is harmful to your health

Something like this will for sure be the reason for my demise. At the chiropractor many years ago, I hopped up on the table and my foot hit the lever that made the table end drop. I went with it. I laughed and apologized as he helped me up onto the other side of the table while he adjusted the end and yep...down I went again.

I have also gotten my arm stuck in an elliptical and ended up with a pretty bad ass bruise.

I knew there was a reason I avoided the pelotons at the gym. Well, aside from the fact that you apparently have to subscribe to them to use it, and I'm already paying for the gym. Not looking to subscribe to the equipment that should come with the membership.

We are kindred souls. This kind of stuff happens to me too.
