Police and federal authorities are searching for a man who was reported missing Monday morning after a Carnival cruise ship returned to Miami.

Kevin McGrath, 26, was last seen at 7 a.m. Monday in his cabin as the Carnival Conquest reported back to the Port of Miami, Carnival said in a statement Tuesday. He was reported missing by his family and "was not located on board despite an extensive search."

Miami-Dade police issued a missing person's alert Tuesday morning for McGrath, who was last seen in a black shirt, shorts and gray sneakers. Police said he "may be in need of services" and asked anyone with information to contact authorities.

Kevin McGrath, 26, was on the Carnival Conquest with family and was last seen by his brother in his cabin early Monday, the day the ship arrived back to Port Miami, according to a spokesperson for Carnival Cruise Line.

McGrath was supposed to meet with family for breakfast before disembarking the ship, but he never arrived, Miami-Dade Detective Angel Rodriguez said in a statement.
Surveillance systems and the U.S. Customs and Border Patrol did not find McGrath once passengers were disembarking the ship, Carnival said. Miami-Dade authorities also checked security cameras, none of which indicated that he may have gone overboard, Rodriguez said.

After McGrath could not be found on board, the Coast Guard was contacted, and Miami police officers arrived to investigate, Carnival said.

"The guest was not detected by surveillance systems, including U.S. Customs and Border Patrol during the debarkation process," the company said.

The Coast Guard confirmed that its crews are "actively searching near the Port of Miami and along the South Florida shore" after the missing person's report Monday

I just posted about him; must have been posting about the same time as you. I checked for his name, but didn't see it on MDS yet.

I mean. He didn't go overboard without anyone seeing him if it was THAT soon before they docked. He either performed the ultimate "Hail Mary" of self deletion right before docking or just ditched his family at the port.

When you go on a cruise they make you go through electronic ports and they scan your ID at every entrance/exit. You aren't getting on or off the ship (unless you go overboard) unless they scan your electronic ID. They are saying that the electronic records don't show him getting off the ship. It makes me think of Amy Bradley, they think she was carried off by one of the crew, possibly in a box.

I'm side eyeing how accurate they are with that though. Cutting corners is always a thing and he might have easily slipped through in a crowd. Unless his family is in on it and if his last sighting is accurate, he wants to be missing . At least initially.

Think about it. His Brother saw him that morning and didn't report anything strange. He's young and maybe did meet people on board that influenced him, however I think he snuck away on his own accord. Maybe to meet people that weren't great people, but I'm thinking at least initially it was voluntary. I just don't l think he went overboard when the captain and crew are preparing to dock.

My mom is leaving Monday for a cruise

I was talking about this with my mom and she thinks he jumped overboard.

Kevin McGrath, a father of two and an Army veteran, has been missing since Monday. He seemingly disappeared from the cruise ship he was on with his family, without a trace.

McGrath was celebrating his father Sean's 60th birthday last weekend on the Carnival Conquest Cruise Ship.
Sean says Kevin was sharing a room on the ship with his twin brother Andre. That was the last time he was seen.

“He said he heard the door open anywhere from 5-7 (a.m.) because it’s dark in the room, and can’t really tell the time,” Sean recalled.

Kevin was supposed to meet his family for breakfast before the ship returned to Port Miami the next morning, but he never showed up.

“We went for breakfast at 7:30, and he didn’t show up," Sean told CBS12 News. "I asked his brother where he was, he said he didn’t come back to the room.”

Authorities say Kevin was not detected by any of the ship's surveillance systems. The ship's cameras and security devices do not indicate that McGrath went overboard, and that's what his father says makes his disappearance even more puzzling.

“His SeaPass card was not scanned, because when you exit the ship, you have to scan your SeaPass card, and we had his documents, like his birth certificate and driver’s license, so there’s no way he could come off the ship," Sean explained. "I was told from Carnival that they had sensors all around the ship, so if someone did go overboard, they would’ve been alerted, and nothing was alerted.”

    My same thought.

There are only so many places you can hide a body on a cruise ship.

OMG the Amy Bradley case is wild.

I remember looking at the photos and reading about it comparing the pics.

I don't think they will ever find out the truth

If he slipped out at 5am and they didn't dock until a few hours or more after that, then that's a different story.

I also question how accurate those sensors are. Cruise ships are enormous and it has to be impossible to have sensors on every inch of the ship.

According to this article the ship ISN'T equipped with the man overboard system, so I don't know what to think. I have also been reading and there are definitely discrepancies on the different articles on the time he was last seem. LE says around 2am but supposedly his brother saw him at 7am.

    https://www.cruiselawnews.com/

Some local news stations reported that Mr. McGrath was last seen on the cruise ship around 2:00 a.m. when the ship was returning to port in Miami. The Miami Herald reported that “police say McGrath’s brother saw him in cabin No. 1326 around 2 a.m. Monday, six hours before the Conquest’s three-day cruise was scheduled to end at PortMiami.” A Miami-Dade police detective told the Miami Herald that “he was supposed to meet the family for breakfast prior to disembarking from the ship but he never arrived as scheduled/planned.”

But several other outlets reported that Mr. McGrath was last seen by his brother at 7:00 a.m. on the morning of his disappearance. “A spokesperson for Carnival Cruise Line told Fox News Digital that the passenger’s cabin mate last saw the man at 7:00 a.m., which is around the time that debarkation was beginning.”

The ship’s CCTV did not indicate anyone falling overboard during the cruise nor did the shipboard cameras provide an explanation where Mr. McGrath may have gone. Carnival claims that it conducted a complete search of the ship. Like all other Carnival cruise ships, the Carnival Conquest is not equipped with an automatic man overboard (MOB) system which would have instantly reported someone going over the railing, recorded the event, and then tracked the overboard passenger in the water.

I don't think they will ever figure out what happened to him.
