    Jimmy Buffett (76) dead

    https://www.msn.com/en-us/music/news...76/ar-AA1g8g2c

the singer-songwriter best-known for breezy, tropical-themed hits like “Margaritaville” and “Cheeseburger in Paradise,” has died at 76.

"Jimmy passed away peacefully on the night of September 1st surrounded by his family, friends, music and dogs,” read the announcement on his website and social media. “He lived his life like a song till the very last breath and will be missed beyond measure by so many."
Some super fans are going to be really sad.

I'm not going to speculate on other people's reactions towards him. I can only reference mine:

There was a woman not far from me who loved Buffett. She was so passionate about what he "was" that she opened a small, neighborhood waterfront bar back in the 80s called "Parrot Heads." It was the epitome of "Margaritaville" before it was such a thing and before Buffet's empire existed. The bar and the people were annoying as fuck with Buffett talk. It wasn't my thing, but the bar always clean and well maintained, never caused any problems, the people were quiet, there were never any fights, etc... Jimmy B caught wind of the name of the bar and the atmosphere, visited incognito and intimidated her to close the bar. She refused and he eventually sued her for copyright infringement. He didn't have anything more than power and money against her. His lawyers ran her dry and they did everything to close her down. Suddenly there were constant noise complaints, parking complaints, health code inspections etc... Slowly the Buffet atmosphere disappeared, and the bar became just another redneck hole to get drunk in. She eventually died and the bar was torn down. It's now some crappy condos that I can only imagine were purchased by Buffett's lawyers. So, for me, I could care less about his death..

What a dick head. Why would he care about a little bar? How did it affect him in any way?

Oh yes. He's been absolutely relentless about "protecting" his brand. https://www.inc.com/jeff-haden/39-ye...-business.html

I guess this is a fitting way to go for Mr. Margaritaville.

Buffett had been fighting Merkel cell skin cancer at the time of his death, according to an updated obituary on his official website. He had the disease for four years and continued to perform during treatment.

Interesting. That wasn't my guess although I did guess that it was probably some kind of Cancer.

I was once in a Jimmy Buffett Tribute band that didn't really go too far, but I learned the whole catalogue of his greatest hits. I suppose it's a good thing that it didn't go that far. He would show up incognito to a gig and steal our equipment, by the sounds of it

I've always found it funny that what is probably the most celebrated drinking song of all time, Margaritaville, seems to be about a man coming to terms with his alcoholism.

I was more of a fan of his books than his songs. He definitely wasn't the happy-go-lucky beach bum that he was made out to be, but he did capitalize on the song and made millions from it. Clearly from what Devilz shared, he was was a ruthless businessman. Overall, it is sad.

Yeah, after all the stories we hear about musicians getting ripped off by their agents or record labels? His is a whole different story. I have to tip my hat to him. Just don't get caught trying to karaoke one of his songs...

That is true. I mean, who knows what he went through in the past. His net worth was $1 billion so he definitely did something right.

Yeah, I can't really blame him because music is such an easy thing to pirate (pun intended) and the artist is left without earnings. Prince was the exact same, probably even more so and I didn't blame him either. Although it's nice now to be able to share videos of his music without them disappearing within 10 minutes.
