Monahan is accused of shooting at a vehicle full of passengers, including 20-year-old Kaylin Gillis, when they accidentally turned into his driveway while looking for a friend's house last month in Washington County, roughly 55 miles north of Albany.
Gillis died a short time later.
Blake Walsh, Gillis' boyfriend, said he was driving the car the night they drove up the wrong driveway. He told NBC in a phone interview that he, his late girlfriend and two friends were looking for a party. Four friends were traveling in another vehicle and also went up the wrong driveway.
I started working at an exclusive island and I asked my manager if I could drive around after work to familiarize myself with all the different neighborhoods. She said sure, but don't turn around in any driveways, because people will write down my tag number and report me.
You should hear all the ridiculous rules we have to follow.
Since you asked so nicely, I'll list some.
We're not allowed to shop in any shops, we're not allowed to eat at any of the restaurants, we can only use certain restrooms, we have to use reusable water bottles (even if the recyclable plastic water bottle is a fancy brand, I know some of you will agree with this rule), we're supposed to acknowledge people even if they ignore us, there's certain parts of neighborhoods that we're not allowed to go into, we're not supposed to sit in the security guard's chair (I did that yesterday, because I didn't want people asking me questions while I'm on break, and his desk kind of hid me from the public), I'm sure I'll find out more stupid rules if I last that long.
I make deliveries to customers sometimes at work and the person gave the wrong address so I asked the person whose house I was at if it was okay to sit in their driveway so I could call the customer to get the correct address. I was telling a coworker about it after it happened and he asked why I would even ask to sit in their driveway...this! this is why I asked. I live in a hick area where you're looked at weird if you don't have guns so I'd rather be safe even if the people look friendly.
why is it such a big deal to use a driveway to turn around? I understand if they got out and started looking around but I just don't get it. I once had a guy sitting in the driveway by my garage in a chair (that he brought with him) because he was watching the company putting in a manufactured house in the lot next to mine, wasn't even his house they were putting up...I just thought it was funny because who thinks to do that lol

Man on trial for killing young woman whose friends pulled into wrong driveway says ‘my soul is dead’
A man who fatally shot a 20-year-old woman after the car she was riding in mistakenly drove up his backcountry driveway in upstate New York testified at his trial Friday that he believed he was under siege that night and now feels “like my soul is dead.”
But he maintained the fatal shot went off accidentally.
Kevin Monahan, 66, took the stand in his own defense to end testimony in his second-degree murder trial.
He thought he was under seige, so he was armed and fired a warning shot. He accidently tripped and the gun went off, and the bullet magically went into the car.
Say he story is true (which I highly doubt), then he still is on the hook for wreckless homicide.
My guess is, he fired a shot and they didnt leave fast enough, so he shot again.

Man found guilty of fatally shooting woman who pulled into wrong driveway
Monahan was convicted Tuesday of second-degree murder, reckless endangerment and tampering with physical evidence, WTEN reported. The jury deliberated for less than three hours, according to WTEN.
I'm glad to hear they found this deplorable, guilty. He thought he was under siege, he was under siege all right, the siege of depravity. A perfect example of why we need gun control and very serious and intensive vetting and background checks of current and prospective gun owners. The old excuse of I need it for my protection has grown tired and outdated.

‘You just don’t get it.’ Judge admonishes NY man who fatally shot woman in his driveway and sentences him to 25 years to life
A judge strongly admonished a 66-year-old man Friday before sentencing him to 25 years to life in prison for shooting and killing a woman who was a passenger in a car that mistakenly drove up his driveway in rural New York last year.
“I think you really could possibly do the same thing again,” Washington County Judge Adam Michelini told Kevin Monahan before imposing his sentence for second-degree murder. “It’s obvious to me that you feel justified. You don’t take any responsibility for the outcome of your actions. You just don’t get it.”
Additionally, the judge imposed a concurrent sentence of up to seven years in prison for reckless endangerment and a consecutive term of up to four years in prison for tampering with evidence.
