17 year old "Influencer", Anthony Luna, falls from the 6th Street Bridge during stunt

I used to live a spitting distance from the old bridge. I'm so glad that I don't live there anymore with the kind of fuckacting happening with the new bridge.

Teenager dies while climbing LA bridge for 'social media broadcast'

Police said the 17-year-old slipped and fell "when climbing upon one of the arches" of the multi-million dollar landmark for a social media post.

A 17-year-old boy fell to his death while climbing a Los Angeles bridge for a social media stunt, according to police.*

Officers were called to the Sixth Street Viaduct at around 2am on Saturday and discovered the teenager, who was later pronounced dead in hospital.

Police Chief Michel Moore said the teenager slipped and fell "when climbing upon one of the arches, in order to post, apparently, a social media broadcast".

The $588m (?476.25m) bridge opened last July to replace an 84-year-old art deco one, and runs for 3,500ft (1.1km) over the concrete-lined*Los Angeles*River and connects the city centre to the Eastside.

The structure is the most expansive crossing built in the city, designed to become a city landmark, and features thousands of LED lights.

From the bridge, there are impressive views of LA's skyline.

Police have closed it several times, however, after it quickly became a hotspot for street racing, graffiti and illegal takeovers that drew hundreds of spectators to watch drivers perform dangerous stunts in their vehicles.

It also draws in content creators attempting to carry out social media stunts.

In one case, a man sat in a barber's chair for a haircut in the middle of the lanes.

A man was also shot dead on the bridge in January during the unauthorised filming of a music video.

"Tragically we see that location, while it has spawned a great deal of pride in Los Angeles, it has also unfortunately served as a backdrop now for tragedies such as this," Mr Moore said.

"Our added patrols will continue at that location... to counter such reckless actions."

Also, apologies for the European spelling of words and the added metric measurements in the article. Apparently the internet is aware that I'm now an American living in Europe and automatically adds that in these days

These stupid influencers are everywhere. I dont know what this guy's "stunt" was going to be. Filming at the highest point of the bridge? How would he get down? Anything for content I guess.

I hate to sound like the old lady I am, but I think social media is The Devil. Also, WTF is wrong with kids these days????

Seventeen year old boys are The Worst. There is a disconnect in their brains, they don't think of consequences AT ALL. I am incredibly grateful that my 44yo son survived to adulthood and is now being tormented by his own teenagers.

Dad is denying it was a social media stunt. He said Anthony Luna didn't care about social media. I can't find a FB for him, although a 17yo probably wouldn't have a FB today - it's for old folks I hear. As evidence of that, I don't have any other social media so I can't look. I'm sure alcohol played a role in this. The memorial shelf behind Dad is full of empty liquor bottles.

Also, I know we're talking about a bunch of kids, but in the news video @ 1:48 they show a memorial that has been made in his memory. Seriously? Is this what passes as a memorial these days? There are 3 candles, but it is literally a pile of garbage - empty beer cans, juice bottles, cardboard, spray paint can. I don't know, was he a tagger, trying to tag the new bridge? They even left the cardboard beer cases on his "memorial." It all just seems so disrespectful to me. No one walking by would even realize it was a memorial, it looks like people gathered up the empties after a party and just left them there. What a sad memorial to be left by friends.

Every time I see one of these stories I am beyond glad that my oldest wasn't born into today's influencer society. He'd have been "that kid"

Same. I see 'influencer' and immediately know it is going to be a story about someone who is an idiot.

Amen to that. My son was an "influencer" before it was a thing. We both marvel that he survived to adulthood. He has apologized to me. Twice.
