Sudden death of former US swim champ Jamie Cail under investigation

A former swimming champion from New Hampshire has been found dead in the US Virgin Islands, where she lived with her boyfriend ? and police have launched a criminal investigation.

Jamie Cail, 42, was found unresponsive early Feb. 21 in St John, New Hampshire?s WMUR reported, citing USVI police.

Her boyfriend, who has not been identified, left a bar about midnight to check on her at their home, where he found her on the floor.

He and a friend carried Cail to a vehicle and drove her to the Myrah Keating-Smith Community Health Center.

?Once at the clinic, CPR was rendered and 911 was notified, however, the female succumbed to her ailment,? police said in a statement cited by Boston.com.

The police said the Criminal Investigation Bureau is investigating Cail?s death after authorities were notified of a ?dead on arrival? about 2:40 a.m.

Cail, a native of Claremont, New Hampshire, was a star swimmer who competed across the US in her youth, her family told WMUR. She reportedly worked at a coffee shop in St. John.

?She was just a very beautiful person,? a friend told the outlet. ?She had a huge heart. She was really loving and kind and well-loved and popular on the island and everybody knows her.?

Lots of pictures of Maine on her FB and mentioning how she misses it. I get the impression that she wasn't happy in the Virgin Islands and her boyfriend was out without her? I'm with RBW. It would be good to know the COD. Although I wouldn't be surprised if it were a suicide. She didn't seem that happy

Police in the U.S. Virgin Islands released an update on the investigation of the death of a 42-year-old New Hampshire native.

Jamie Cail, of New Hampshire, died last week after she was found unresponsive in her home, according to U.S. Virgin Islands police.

The Virgin Islands Police Department said a clinic in St. John notified of the death, shortly after 2:30 a.m. on Tuesday. They said hospital staff at the clinic indicated that Cail was in cardiac arrest and given CPR.

Around 12 a.m., Cail's boyfriend left a local bar to check on her at their home. When he arrived home, he saw her on the floor, according to police.

With the help from a friend, the man was able to get Cail into a vehicle and take her to the Myrah Keating-Smith Clinic, police said.

At the clinic, CPR was rendered and 911 was called, but police reported Cail succumbed to her "ailment."

She obviously missed being home in Maine and the fact that she died somewhere else makes me really sad for her.
