    Last known information

On November 27th, 2022, we last heard from Ken via "Whatsapp"; apparently, he left his host family's residence and boarded the train headed for Valence, France. Ken's phone pinged on Wednesday, November 30th, 2022; his phone has had zero activity since this date.

We learned through communications that Ken had gone to classes on November 28th. However, communication has not happened from his phone or any social media since Sunday, November 27th. According to authorities, Ken has not made contact with any of the friends he has made in France since attending classes on November 28th. Those that saw him in class on November 28th said Ken was normal and happy.

When I hear about disappearances like this I think of Hostel. I watch too many horror movies.

I don't watch horror movies, so I have no idea what happened in that, but I think he took off of his own accord and I don't think it will end well.

You dont want to know what happens. It starts off with American tourists being lured away by hot young people to their death.

I think that Americans get a false sense of security while in Europe when in reality they're an instant "mark". They figure that guns and violence are only an American thing when bad people are everywhere and take advantage. I get it, I trust people here in town with everything. But I don't think all of Europe is equal and especially when they spot an American.

I've never had problems in any foreign country. You always have to be aware of pickpockets, but generally, everyone was "nice" to me.

All I remember about Hostel was the double sex and some guy getting his head bashed in. Hostel is a very gruesome movie! I wouldn't recommend it.

It is super gruesome and I hope nothing terrible like that happened to this poor guy. Hopefully hes off on his own and got lost or something.

I visited Europe as a teen. The chaperones were real big on "Canadian flags! Flag pins!" on jackets/shirts so no one would confuse us for Americans. Not sure what they heard but it was the 80s.

A lot of other countries either hate Americans or think all Americans are rich. When I visited the market in Thailand, I made the mistake of saying I was American when asked. I never made that mistake again, people were calling me around trying to sell me everyone under the Sun? I ended up pretending to be from New Zealand for the remainder of my trip.

Missing college student Kenny DeLand Jr. is alive, his father says

Kenny DeLand Jr., the American student who went missing more than two weeks ago in Grenoble, France, is alive, his father Ken DeLand Sr. told CNN on Friday.

DeLand Jr. is in Spain, French Prosecutor Eric Vaillant told CNN, adding only that the young man had spoken Friday with his parents.

DeLand Jr.’s father had been in the middle of a call with CNN when he suddenly hung up. He later messaged CNN to report “good news” – and he’d just spoken with his son.

“He is alive – that’s all I can say,” he told CNN.

Deland Sr. did not elaborate on what his son told him and did not explain where his son has been for the past two weeks.

I think he was partying or out with/staying with a love interest. If he was kidnapped and held somewhere the police would have said that.
