Bradley Robert Dawson (38) allegedly killed his wife, Christe Chen (36), while on their honeymoon in Fiji

Authorities on the island of Fiji have arrested an American man after they say he killed his wife while they were on their honeymoon at a luxury resort there earlier this month.

Police said they found the wife, Christe Chen, dead in the couple's hotel room at Turtle Island -- a luxury resort near Fiji's Yasawa archipelago.

Investigators said that Chen, 36, died of multiple blunt-force injuries.

Police tracked Chen's new husband, Bradley Robert Dawson, to another Fiji island two days later and arrested him.

Dawson, 38, has been charged with a count of murder and he's expected to appear before Fiji's Lautoka High Court on July 27. Authorities have not yet spoken about a possible motive for the killing.

The Tennessee couple married in February but only recently set out on their honeymoon.

"We cooperated with the authorities during the investigation," the Turtle Island resort said according to ABC News.

"We continue to send our condolences to Ms. Chen's family, friends, and colleagues."

Dawson's attorney said he will make a bail application, but believes it's unlikely to succeed.

"Mr. Dawson is going to be in Fiji for a long time before this case is resolved, one way or the other," former FBI agent Brad Garett told ABC News.

Body of slain Fiji newlywed Christe Chen too badly beaten to be flown home: attorney

The Tennessee bride whose husband has been charged with murdering her on their honeymoon in Fiji was so badly beaten, her family was unable to bring her body home to the US, their lawyer has revealed.

Memphis-based pharmacist Christe Chen, 36, was “unable to be taken back to her home because of the nature of her injuries,” her parents’ attorney, Ronald Gordon, told DailyMail.com.

“So she had to be cremated here in Fiji and her ashes were taken back,” he said of the new bride who was found dead in her room in the $3,500-a-night Turtle Island Resort earlier this month.
Dawson — who claims his bride’s death was an “accident,” according to his attorney — was pictured arriving with a small blue suitcase in anticipation of being released on bail, the Mail said.

Instead, he was held for at least another three weeks until August 21, the Fiji Times noted.

Chen’s family plans to take civil action against Dawson if he is not held criminally liable for the death, and have not ruled out legal action against the exclusive resort, their lawyer told the Mail.
The attorney also revealed that Dawson is known to have been to the same resort at least once before — but with a previous wife.

The newlywed had been found by a butler in a pool of blood, dead from multiple traumatic injuries, including blunt force trauma to the head, according to a post-mortem report viewed by the Mail.

Despite the gruesome injuries, Dawson’s attorney, Iqbal Khan, insisted the death “looks like an accident.”

Bradley Robert Dawson will remain behind bars until at least Aug. 21, when he is next due in Lautoka High Court in Fiji.
