Natally Brookson (22) and Daniel Sotelo (26) found dead in Lake Michigan after going missing from Chicago

    https://www.cbsnews.com/chicago/news...evelt-station/

A UIC student has now been missing for more than a week after last having been seen on the CTA at the Roosevelt 'L' stop.

Daniel Sotelo, 26, was last heard from Saturday, April 30, on a train at the station at Roosevelt Road and State Street.

The Chicago Transit Authority station serves the Orange and Green lines on the elevated tracks and the Red Line below ground. A missing persons flyer did not specify where exactly in the station Sotelo was last seen, but UIC did say he was last seen taking a CTA train.

Anyone with information is asked to call Area Three detectives at (312) 744-8266. The flyer also gave a number of (630) 795-9034.

So they are both missing but no one knows if they were together when they disappeared? That would be a weird coincidence, unless they planned to run away and meet somewhere.

Weird indeed. My money would be on murder-suicide, or murder and hiding out. But there have been cases like the one where they found the woman being held hostage and her companion buried in the yard.

True. And Chicago is a cesspool right now; I wouldn't be surprised if they were victims of a crim.

Either he killed her or she killed him or they're together somewhere. There's no way they both go missing on the same day and it's not connected somehow.

Daniel Sotelo, Natally Brookson disappearance: UIC grad student missing, girlfriend confirmed dead

The family of a missing University of Illinois Chicago graduate student is asking for the public's help in bringing him home.

Daniel Sotelo was last seen by his roommate on April 30 near State and Roosevelt.

Loved ones say Sotelo was set to graduate with his master’s degree last weekend, but never showed up. They say this is completely out of character for the 26-year-old.

He was last seen when his roommate dropped him off at the Roosevelt Red Line stop. He said he was heading up north, but didn't say more than that.

A few days later, a friend notified his sister that Sotelo hadn't been home for a few days.

When loved ones couldn't reach him either, they filed a missing person's report.

Sotelo's sister, Jennifer, says the UIC student was just days away from graduating with a master's in Organic Chemistry and was making plans for the future. She had believed he was maybe with his girlfriend, 22-year-old Natally Brookson, who could also not be reached.

Late Wednesday night, the Cook County medical examiner confirmed Brookson was deceased. The manner of death is pending at this time.

I'm thinking suicide pact for some reason.

I would think they would've been found together if that was the case?

I am stumped on what happened.

Were they confirmed found at two different places? I missed that. I just assumed they were found together. I admit that I skimmed the article I posted.

Oh, well, I need to google some more because I thought they were both found based on the story I posted last night. I now withdraw my suicide pact idea and I now think he killed her.

UIC grad student Daniel Sotelo remains missing after girlfriend was found dead; his father holds onto faith

Daniel Sotelo was days away from graduating from the University of Illinois at Chicago with a master's degree.

His girlfriend, Natally Brookson, vanished after she quit her job and was found dead a few days later.

What happened to the UIC couple is still a mystery. And on Wednesday night, CBS 2's Marissa Perlman spoke Sotelo's father as the search for his son continued.

Nicolas Sotelo is relying on faith that his son will come home. He was last seen at the Roosevelt 'L' station near Roosevelt Road and State Street, heading north.

But we learned Wednesday night that his family says his wallet and phone were found next to his girlfriend's body.

"I keep my hope on, and I thank God for beautiful kids," said Nicolas Sotelo.

Sotelo said he couldn't be prouder as he looks at a photo of his four kids – including his son, Danny.

"He was so happy," Nicolas Sotelo said.

Danny vanished days before graduating with a master's at UIC. His dad said the 26-year-old had big plans – to work on a conservation farm in Naperville and take his brothers to see family in Mexico.

Nicolas Sotelo shared the last text message with his son, the day he disappeared.

"I ask him, 'How are you, son?' He said, 'I am okay, Pa,'" the elder Sotelo said. "That was the last message."

But three weeks later, Nicolas Sotelo does not know if his son is really OK.

"You go to bed thinking about it, and you wake up thinking about the same," he said.

Daniel Sotelo, who was living in Pilsen, was last seen heading north at the Roosevelt 'L' stop after being dropped off by his roommate on Saturday, April 30.

His dad believes he went to see Brookson, who had quit her job at the Friedman Place a community for blind adults that day. Her job had been the last place she had been seen.

Brookson had also taken a leave of absence from UIC.

On Monday, May 2, Brookson's body was pulled from Lake Michigan near Bryn Mawr Avenue. An autopsy was inconclusive, and the cause of her death is still pending.

When Brookson's body was found, Nicolas Sotelo says his mind went dark.

"I didn't want to think about it, but I thought they would find maybe Danny's body also," he said.

Nicolas Sotelo's family continues to organize search parties – and still there is no sign of his son.

We asked Nicolas Sotelo what he says to people who think Daniel may have played a role in his girlfriend's death.

"I don't think he could be capable to do something - he was a really nice guy," the elder Sotelo said.

And now, Nicolas Sotelo debates holding onto faith or fear as he waits for answers.

"Danny, everybody is praying for you," Nicolas Sotelo said. "Everybody is waiting for you to show up."

Natally Brookson and Daniel Sotelo had only been dating for a few months. Nicolas Sotelo said he never met his son's girlfriend.

Chicago Police say this is still an active missing persons investigation, and no suspects or persons of interest have been named.

If you have any information, you are asked to call Chicago Police.

Very weird, indeed. So, the girlfriend quit her job the same day she went missing and also took a LOA from school. She might have been going through a mental health crisis and possibly (dare I say) did something to him then killed herself.

    A little more info.

    https://blockclubchicago.org/2022/05...near-wilmette/

A body found in Lake Michigan near Wilmette earlier this month was identified Sunday as that of University of Illinois Chicago grad student Daniel Sotelo, who went missing with his girlfriend in April.

Authorities identified the body as that of Daniel Sotelo, 26, according to the Record North Shore.

Boaters found Sotelo’s body May 22, about one mile offshore in Wilmette. His cause of death is still under investigation, the Record reported.

Sotelo and his girlfriend, fellow UIC student Natally Brookson, 22, went missing in late April. Brookson’s body was found May 2, also in Lake Michigan. The cause of her death is also pending.

Brookson, was last seen April 30 at work at the Friedman Place, a supportive living community for adults who are blind at 5527 N. Maplewood Ave., according to an unofficial missing persons flyer.

Sotelo was last seen April 29 near the 700 block of South Racine Avenue near the UIC campus, according to a police flyer.

Sotelo’s family confirmed his death in an Instagram post, where they also mourned him.

“My family and I were blessed to have had Danny for the short time that we did. He was an absolute light for us all,” the post read. “His kindness was reflected in his eyes, and his generosity was conveyed in the way he took care of others. His smile had the ability to warm the heart of anyone that came across it. We are fortunate to have witnessed it as many times as we did.”
