The Supreme Court has voted to strike down the landmark Roe v. Wade decision, according to an initial draft majority opinion written by Justice Samuel Alito circulated inside the court and obtained by POLITICO.

The draft opinion is a full-throated, unflinching repudiation of the 1973 decision which guaranteed federal constitutional protections of abortion rights and a subsequent 1992 decision ? Planned Parenthood v. Casey ? that largely maintained the right. ?Roe was egregiously wrong from the start,? Alito writes.

Just because you're not within reproductive age, this ruling will absolutely directly impact you. This has nothing to do with saving the lives of "babies" and everything to do with keeping Women in check. Before you know it, you'll have to get a man's permission to open a bank account again and don't think that they won't try to take away various other rights that we have.

Well yeah. There is all of that. And of course, there's all the medicine that will no doubt become illegal. Anything stem cellish, or tested using fetal cell technology, and on and on and on.

The only bright spot is the idea that if this doesn't motivate progressives to get out and vote for the progressive candidate with the best chance to win, we deserve what happens. All the Nadar, Stein, and Bernie folks who couldn't dirty their hands with a less than perfect lefty, well, here we are.

To be perfectly honest with you, I have spent my entire life preaching about this and being told I am a radical and extreme and this could never happen...mostly by other women. So at this point I am tired of putting myself out there and fighting for others who don't care about themselves or other women. So honestly I feel like a lot of people are going to have to deal with the bed they made. I am tired of fighting for them when they don't give a shit. Maybe this will wake them up and they'll care...but probably not.

Them and the ones that take matters into their own hands to horrifying effect. An older lady I used to know talked about growing up with her siblings and 1/2 a dozen cousins that her family took in after her aunt died from a botched homemade abortion. The woman already had 6 kids and her husband was killed while she was pregnant. She tried to end things because she just couldn't see how to have another and keep the ones she already had fed...

Amazon announces benefit to pay for US employees who travel for abortions

Online retail giant Amazon.com took a firm stance Monday against a prevailing, Republican-led push to restrict access to abortion, telling its staff that it would pay up to $4,000 in travel expenses for non-life threatening medical treatments that include abortion.

In a message sent to employees, obtained by Reuters, Amazon told its employees that the new work benefit would apply to an employee if an operation could not be done within 100 miles of their home and virtual care is not accessible. That will be put in place for all corporate and warehouse employees or covered dependents enrolled in the company's Premera or Aetna health plans, according to the memo.

Amazon's benefit would kick into place in January of 2023. It applies to all non-life threatening treatments – not just abortion – including cardiology, cellular gene therapies and substance-abuse disorder services.

The move comes on the heels of other major companies – Citigroup and Yelp most recently – creating work benefits that combat state laws adjusting legal changes in employees' health benefits.

President Joe Biden said Tuesday that a "whole range of rights" beyond abortion are in question if the Supreme Court overturns Roe v. Wade.

"It's really quite a radical decision," Biden said in his first public comments about a leaked draft Supreme Court opinion indicating the high court may be on the cusp of upending the landmark 1973 decision that established a constitutional right to abortion. “It's a fundamental shift in American jurisprudence."

Biden said the same arguments included in the draft opinion could also be used to strike down the right of gays and lesbians to marry as well as constitutional protections for birth control.

"Every other decision based on the notion of privacy is thrown into question," Biden told reporters before flying to Alabama to tour a defense production facility. He said Roe v. Wade decided that the moment of conception is an open question, adding that any decision that makes a judgment on that question “goes way overboard.”

Earlier Biden released a statement calling on Congress to codify abortion rights and urged voters to elect lawmakers who would support those rights. He declined to say whether he would support changing Senate rules so legislation codifying the right to abortion could not be blocked by a filibuster.

If they cared about babies, they'd want them to be fed and to have decent housing and medical care but we see how much they care about that.

They are saying they are going to leave it up to each state, and then from the other side of their mouths the red states are passing laws to go after people who are traveling to a blue state to get an abortion. So yeah, they're trying to take it away from everyone.

They are trying to pass laws (and have in some places) that would forbid the government from doing business with companies that have such clauses for their employees.

Wade, an ABC News/Washington Post poll finds that majorities of Americans support upholding Roe, say abortion should be legal in all or most cases and -- by a wide margin -- see abortion as a decision to be made by a woman and her doctor, not by lawmakers.

The national survey was completed last week, in advance of a report by Politico Monday night that a proposed first draft of an opinion, apparently by Justice Samuel Alito, called for reversing Roe in a case challenging Mississippi's ban on abortions after 15 weeks of pregnancy.

In this poll, by contrast, 57% of Americans oppose a ban after 15 weeks; 58% say abortion should be legal in all or most cases; and 54% say the court should uphold Roe, compared with 28% who say the ruling should be overturned.

Support for upholding Roe is 6 percentage points lower than it was in an ABC/Post poll last November. Preference for reversing it is essentially unchanged; instead, more in this survey express no opinion, 18%.
