Police Shot & Killed Valentina Orellana-Peralta (14) In A Dressing Room While Shooting At Assault Suspect

There's no names mentioned yet so it's not the greatest title. I'm sure it can get changed when more info is known.

Police shot and killed a man suspected of assault inside a Burlington store in North Hollywood Thursday, and an officer?s round went through a dressing room wall, killing a 14-year-old girl.

The incident took place around 11:45 a.m. near the intersection of Victory and Laurel Canyon boulevards, according to the Los Angeles Police Department, at a Burlington department store that?s part of a chain formerly known as Burlington Coat Factory.

Police initially received a call about an assault with a deadly weapon, then received additional calls indicating there was a shooting in progress, LAPD Capt. Stacy Spell said in an afternoon briefing.

Officers arrived at the location and began a looking for a gunman.

?While conducting that search for the suspect, the officers encountered an individual who was in the process of assaulting another, and an officer involved shooting occurred,? Spell said. ?The suspect was struck by gunfire and was subsequently taken into custody.?

The Los Angeles Fire Department responded and declared two people dead at the scene.

One of the people who died was the suspect, who was shot and killed by police, according to LAPD.

The second person was a 14-year-old girl, who was found later, according to LAPD Assistant Chief Dominic Choi

When officers were shooting at the suspect, one of the officer?s rounds penetrated a wall that was behind the suspect. Beyond that wall was a dressing room, and when officers searched the dressing room, they found the girl had been fatally struck by the gunfire, police said in a later briefing.

?You can?t see into the dressing rooms and it just looks like a straight wall of drywall,? Choi said.

Additionally, the woman who was assaulted by the suspect had moderate-to-serious injuries to her head, arms and face, police said. She was taken to a trauma center. It wasn?t immediately known if she?d been shot.

Police said they found a heavy metal cable lock near the suspect, but it was not yet clear what weapon he used when assaultimg the woman.

Investigators still haven?t disclosed if it was a targeted or random attack.

?Right now there is an indication of one suspect,? Spell said.

The store was packed at the time of incident, filled with frightened employees and shoppers who sheltered in place.

Throughout the day, anxious family members gathered outside in the parking lot, hoping to hear from their loved ones inside ? both customers and workers who witnessed the incident and who were being interviewed by authorities.

Police said the investigation is ongoing and surveillance footage will be reviewed. No further details were immediately available.

Because they're a bunch of trigger happy dickheads. Honestly. The guy wasn't armed with a gun and even if they got reports that he was, you would surely try to check first before shooting up a department store full of people. But hey. They got the suspect and it only cost the life of one innocent 14 year old girl two days before Christmas. They seriously don't give a shit about anyone.

    The victim has been identified:

The 14-year-old was identified by the L.A. County Coroner’s Office Friday as Valentina Orellana-Peralta. The male suspect’s name has not yet been released.

A woman who was assaulted by the suspect was taken to the hospital with moderate to serious injuries, police said.

It’s unclear exactly why police opened fire. The suspect is not believed to have been armed with a gun.

ETA: I don't know how true this is, but there's many comments I'm seeing that claim that she was trying on dresses for her quincenera

Apparently the bullet magically bounced off the floor into the dressing room.

I can't find the article again, but he had a clothing company called Use of Force Fitness, which he dissolved I guess in late 2020, hm. But then in the same article it said the guy like tried to build his brand as a social justice advocate and that he had some kind of non profit (I don't remember what for) and his police union rep of course came out to say how much work he did for the community. So it's all very strange. The fact that he says : "Let me take point with the rifle" in the body am says it all, to me. What is he playing a videogame? The bullet ricocheted off the floor! Hogwash.

Likely the fitness center closed because of Covid. Lots of independently owned gyms did because they couldn't make money with the restrictions. The name isn't a cute look in retrospect though.

As far as video games go, that's exactly what a lot of these cops act like. Like they're playing Call of Duty or some shit and don't even think about the fact that you're spraying bullets blindly in a store with innocent by standers. The staff TOLD the police that he didn't have a gun and that it was just a bike lock. They HAD to take him down because he was absolutely assaulting people with it, but they didn't have to use deadly force to do it. That's what tazers are for! What happened to not firing until you see a gun? They literally believe they have a license to kill anyone for any reason. It's a fucking disgrace.

Oh! I missed that. Forgive me, the past two weeks are a blur to me and I wasn't firing on all engines.

No need for forgiveness, my mind feels like a gas lawnmower and I'm forever pulling the cord!
