Vincenzo Lirosi (22) found dead in the woods after leaving a frat party

Police are continuing their search Sunday for a missing University of New Hampshire student.

Vincenzo Lirosi, 22, of 9 Woodman Road, was reported missing at 3 a.m. Saturday. He was last seen about 1:30 a.m. following a night out with friends Friday, according to police.

Durham police searched all day Saturday with the assistance of multiple agencies, with no results.

"We will continue the search today," Durham Police Chief Rene Kelley said Sunday morning. "We are again bringing in additional resources from Fish and Game and from State Police."

Kelley said authorities are holding off on seeking volunteers for a search party, at least for now.
Vincenzo Lirosi, 22, of Durham, a University of New Hampshire student, was missing Saturday, Dec. 4, 2021, and being sought by police.

"We want the canine units to be able to do their job," he said. "Too many people walking through the woods will make it harder for them to track so we are purposefully holding off on that type of search right now."

Kelley said police conducted many interviews Saturday, with students, friends and anyone else who might have seen Lirosi.

Lirosi is approximately 5 feet 7 inches tall and 170 pounds, with blue eyes and brown hair, police said. He was last seen wearing a gray Patriots hooded sweatshirt, a blue long-sleeve shirt and khaki pants.

Police dogs were seen searching Saturday in the area of Beards Creek, Kelley confirmed.

Police ask anyone who sees Lirosi, or knows of his whereabouts, to call 911 or the Durham Police Department at 603-868-2324.

Body of missing UNH student found, Durham police says

The body of a missing University of New Hampshire Student was found Sunday.

Vincenzo "Vinny" Lirosi, 22, of Durham, was found by a New England Search and Rescue K-9 team in a marshy area off Coe Drive in Durham around 1:20 p.m.

The New Hampshire Medical Examiner will conduct an autopsy and determine a cause and manner of death. Lirosi's family has been notified.
Durham police said he was drinking with friends before going missing.

Jordan Blanchard, Lirosi's friend and former roommate, was with him for part of the night. They separated when Lirosi left the bar they were at for a fraternity party where he allegedly got into a fight.

"It's pretty uncharacteristic of him," Blanchard said. "This is his first fight ever."

Blanchard said after the fight broke up, "they kicked him out and told him to go home. That's when he went into the woods."

Partygoers told Blanchard that Lirosi was last seen heading down a wooden path that students frequently use as a shortcut around campus.

"We started to think how he would think, and we started walking through the woods on different trails," Blanchard said. "We walked all the way to Jackson's Landing to see if he was over there, and we could not find anything."

Durham police responded, using a K-9 and thermal drone to search the wooded area. State police and Fish and Game were called in later Saturday morning, using a helicopter to search for Lirosi. The search continued Sunday until investigators found Lirosi's body.

I wonder if he fell and hit his head or had alcohol poisoning, or it could have been hypothermia. Someone should have left with him.

Being "found in a marshy area" never sounds good...
