A man shot four people including an infant in multiple Polk County homes before turning the gun on law enforcement, according to the Polk County Sheriff?s Office.

Deputies around 7:30 p.m. Saturday evening responded to a suspicious vehicle and person call on North Socrum Loop Road north of Lakeland in unincorporated Polk County.

The woman who noticed the suspicious person told deputies he told her, ?God sent me here to speak to one of your daughters,? Sheriff Grady Judd said Sunday during a news conference.

READ: Woman, 76, dies after being stabbed several times by 79-year-old roommate

However by the time deputies arrived, the vehicle was no longer there, Judd said. Deputies scoured the area looking for the vehicle, but couldn?t find it.

Several hours later around 4:30 a.m., a lieutenant responding to another scene a few miles away heard ?a volley of automatic gunfire,? Judd said.

Deputies responded to that scene and shortly after, the sheriff?s office received calls of an active shooter and initiated its active shooter protocol.

When deputies arrived at the scene they found a truck on fire and heard a popping noise. Deputies also noticed breakable lights lining the path from the road to the house.

?As we approached, we saw an individual totally outfitted and body armor and looked as if he was ready to engage us all in an active shooter situation, but we didn?t see a firearm,? Judd said.

The man then ran back into the house. Deputies then heard another volley of gunfire and a woman scream and a baby whimper, Judd said. A lieutenant tried to make entry into the front of the house, but it was barricaded, so he ran to the back of the house where they were able to make entry and gunfire ensued.

Three deputies were pinned down by gunfire through the front of the residence.

The suspect eventually came out with his hands raised and was taken into custody after being shot once, Judd said.

Deputies inside found an 11-year-old girl shot multiple times who was still alive. She was eventually transported to a Tampa hospital where she is still believed to be in surgery, Judd said.

The girl told deputies that there were three dead people in the house.

Deputies then found a man, woman and infant in the mother?s arms in the house, all shot to death, Judd said. Deputies then went to the house behind it and found another woman shot to death.

Deputies are still looking for a fifth child around 10 or 11 years old, Judd said.

The man told deputies that he was ?taking meth? and also described himself as a survivalist.

According to this article the missing child was found safe: https://www.wfla.com/news/polk-count...unday-morning/

According to Judd, there were three homes on the property, with deputies finding a man, a woman, and an infant all shot dead in the main house. Judd said the infant?s body was still in their dead mother?s arms when they were found.

Another woman was found dead in the house directly behind the main one, the sheriff said.

?This man killed four people this morning, tried to kill our deputies, and then gave up,? he said.

The sheriff said there was another child from the family that was found safe at another location.

?If (the shooter) had given us the opportunity, we would have shot him up a lot, but he didn?t because he was a coward,? Judd said. ?You see, it?s easy to shoot innocent children and babies and people in the middle of the night when you?ve got the gun, and they don?t. But he was not much of a man.?

Judd said the gunman, a self-described survivalist, said he was on methamphetamine at the time, but it is not known why or how he ended up at the home twice.

The shooter has been identified, but the sheriff?s office will not release the information until a later press conference. Judd did say the gunman is not from Polk County.

Former Marine wearing body armor kills 4 in Florida, including 3-month-old boy still in mother’s arms – ‘They begged for their lives and I killed them anyway’

    https://www.nydailynews.com/news/cri...jcu-story.html

An armored “survivalist” on meth who spent four years in the Marines told a woman that God sent him to speak with one of her daughters, then returned and killed four people inside the Florida home Sunday morning, according to police.

Lakeland police were called to the home around 7:30 p.m. Saturday after the woman called 911 on the suspicious man. But after searching for about 20 minutes, neither the man nor his car were located, so police left.

A short distance down the road, two other people saw the man, later identified as 33-year-old Bryan Riley, who said he was looking for “Amber,” according to Sheriff Grady Judd. Riley said God had sent him there because Amber was going to commit suicide.

Riley, a former Marine who served in both Iraq and Afghanistan in the late 2010s and now works as an “executive protection specialist” for a company based in Tarpon Springs, Fla., then went home to Brandon, where he met his girlfriend.

Nine hours later, around 4:30 a.m., a Polk County Sheriff’s Office lieutenant heard “two volleys of automatic gunfire” in the area, Judd said during a press conference Sunday morning.

When police arrived at the home again, they saw a truck on fire and heard a popping noise coming from the front yard. There, Riley was “totally outfitted in body armor and looked as though he was ready to engage us in an active shooter situation,” Judd said. Glow sticks were laid out between the road and the residence, seemingly forming a path.

Riley ran back inside the house, which is when deputies heard a gunshot, a woman scream and a baby “whimper,” according to Judd.

A lieutenant attempted to enter the house, but was stopped by a barricade. He then ran around to the back of the house and was met with gunfire.

Riley retreated back into the house and met responding police at the front, where they again traded gunfire.

Eventually, the gunman surrendered and came out of the house after being shot. He was taken to the hospital, where he struggled with officers and tried to grab a gun.

“You know why I did this,” Riley allegedly told police on the way to the hospital.

An 11-year-old girl was found inside the house, having been shot about seven times.

“She looks our deputies in the eye and says, ‘there’s three more dead people in the house,’” Judd said.

The young girl was hospitalized and is undergoing surgery, but is expected to survive.

Justice Gleason, 44, and a 33-year-old white woman were found dead in the house, as was a 3-month-old boy still in its mother’s arms.

The family was found “huddling and hiding in fear,” Judd said.

A second woman, the 62-year-old grandmother of the baby, was found dead on another house on the same property.

The family dog, named after a Polk County Sheriff’s Office K-9 who was killed in the line of duty in 2006, was also shot.

“They begged for their lives and I killed them anyway,” Riley allegedly told police after his arrest.

Judd said at his second press conference Sunday that investigators have found “zero” connection between Riley and the victims.

“A madman with a lot of guns that shot and killed innocent people,” Judd said, describing him as a “rabid animal.”

Riley’s girlfriend told police that he was suffering from PTSD, but had never been violent before.

Multiple attempts to reach Riley’s employer went unanswered.

Let me guess...the mother of the baby left him for the man so he slaughtered everyone.

ETA: based on this I guess not.

    https://www.cnn.com/2021/09/05/us/fl...ant/index.html

In an interview with deputies, the suspect described himself as "a survivalist" and confessed to being on methamphetamine, Judd said. The suspect's girlfriend told authorities that he had been diagnosed with PTSD and had been acting erratically in the past week, saying that he was receiving visions from God, according to the sheriff.

The suspect lives in Brandon, Florida, about 20 miles from where the shooting took place. At a press conference Sunday afternoon, Judd said there did not appear to be any connection between the suspect and the victims, and he struggled to explain why the suspect chose that particular family and property.

"We just know we had a madman with a lot of guns that shot and killed innocent people," he said.

By all means. Let's not have stricter gun laws in regards to mental health.

Sheriff Judd said that Mr. Riley’s girlfriend was cooperating with investigators and that she had told them that he had become more erratic in the past week.

In addition to serving in Afghanistan, Mr. Riley had also deployed to Iraq during his four years in the Marines and three years as a reservist, the sheriff said. Mr. Riley had been honorably discharged, he said, and had “virtually no criminal history.”

“So we’re not dealing with a traditional criminal here,” Sheriff Judd said.

Mr. Riley’s girlfriend told the authorities that he had worked in security at a church in Orlando and began having delusions, the sheriff said.

“He came home and said God spoke to him and now he can talk directly to God,” the sheriff said, citing the account Mr. Riley’s girlfriend had given investigators.

The girlfriend said that Mr. Riley claimed to have received instructions from God to help the survivors of Hurricane Ida, and that he bought $1,000 worth of cigars to give to them, the sheriff said.

When he arrived in Polk County on Saturday night, the authorities said, Mr. Riley told people in the neighborhood that God had sent him to save a woman before she took her own life. But no woman by the name that he gave lived there, the sheriff said.

According to his LinkedIn page, Mr. Riley used to work at ESS Global Corporation, a security company. A company representative could not be reached on Sunday night.

Florida security officers must have a license for the job. His security officer license was set to expire in November, according to a database published by the Florida Commissioner of Agriculture and Consumer Services. He also had a firearm license and had applied for a second one, which was “subject to review” as of Sunday.

Suspect held without bond in shooting of Florida family

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) ? A former Marine sharpshooter who told authorities he was high on methamphetamines when he invaded a home in Florida and fatally shot a mother, her 3-month-old baby and two others was ordered held without bond during his first court appearance on Monday.

Bryan Riley, 33, also asked for his own lawyer and will be appointed his own lawyer until he can get one, a judge said.

Riley surrendered on Sunday morning after a furious gun battle with authorities who brought in at least one armored vehicle during their standoff. An officer then rushed into the home and rescued an 11-year-old girl, who was still conscious despite being shot seven times. She was in critical but stable condition on Monday, the sheriff?s office said.

Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said Riley, who served in both Iraq and Afghanistan, appeared to be suffering from mental health issues. He said Riley?s girlfriend told investigators he had post-traumatic stress syndrome and had been unraveling for weeks, repeatedly telling her he could communicate directly with God.

The slain family first encountered Riley on Saturday evening when he randomly stopped by their home in Lakeland, about 30 miles (48 kilometers) from Tampa, where he lives, Judd said.

Justice Gleason, 40, was mowing his lawn when Riley pulled onto their property and said God had sent him there to prevent a suicide by someone named ?Amber.? Gleason and another person Judd described as one of the victims said there was no one there by that name, and told him to leave. They called law enforcement and authorities responded, but Riley was gone.

Hours later, Riley returned and shot the family. He told interrogators that ?they begged for their lives and I killed them anyway,? Judd said.

Around 4:30 a.m. Sunday, Riley put out glowsticks in the early morning darkness to create a path leading to the house in an attempt to draw officers ?into an ambush,? the sheriff told reporters.

A lieutenant working a good distance away heard popping noises and immediately put the agency on active-shooter mode, bringing all state and local law enforcement in the area to the scene. They followed the sounds of gunfire to the home and found Riley?s white truck ablaze and an unarmed Riley outside, dressed in camouflage.

He ran back into the house, where authorities heard another round of gunfire, ?a woman scream and a baby whimper,? Judd said.

Officers tried to enter the front of the house, but it was barricaded. Judd said when they circled to the back, they encountered Riley, who appeared to have put on full body armor including head and knee coverings and a bulletproof vest.

Authorities exchanged heavy gunfire, with dozens ?if not hundreds of rounds? fired, before Riley retreated back into the home, Judd said.

Everything fell silent, until a helicopter unit alerted authorities on the ground that Riley was coming out, the sheriff said. He had been shot once and was ready to surrender.

Officers heard cries for help inside the home, but were unsure whether there were additional shooters and feared the home was booby-trapped. Judd said a brave sergeant rushed in and grabbed the injured girl, who told deputies there were three dead people inside as she was rushed into surgery.

Deputies then sent robots into the home to check for explosives and other traps. When it was clear, they found the bodies of Gleason; the 33-year-old mother; the baby; and the baby?s 62-year-old grandmother, who was in a separate home nearby.

Authorities released only Gleason?s name, and did not say if or how he was related to the other victims, but a woman?s Facebook page shows many photos of Gleason with the woman, a baby boy and his big sister. One photo posted Saturday, showing Gleason smiling as he held the baby, was captioned ?Tall like Daddy.?

Pansy Mincey Smith told The Ledger that she had gone to school with Gleason?s father, Joe, who died several years ago. She had last seen him at the hospital in May, shortly after his boy was born.

?RIP Justice Gleason. The last time I saw you, you were getting on the elevator at the hospital,? Smith wrote on Facebook. ?You were smiling from ear to ear about your new little baby boy, you had that big teddy bear for him. This is so heartbreaking, son.?

The sheriff?s office declined to say how many times the victims had been shot, but said they had all been hiding and huddling in fear, with the boy dying in his mother?s arms. Even the family dog was shot to death.

Authorities said Riley?s girlfriend told investigators he was never violent but had become increasingly erratic. She said he claimed to be on mission from God, stockpiling supplies for Hurricane Ida victims including $1,000 worth of cigars.

Riley?s vehicle had also been stocked with bleeding control kits and other supplies for a gunfight, authorities said.

But the war veteran, who worked as a private security guard, had no criminal history, the sheriff said.

?Prior to this morning, this guy was a war hero. He fought for his country in Afghanistan and Iraq,? said Judd. ?And this morning he?s a cold-blooded killer.?

While being treated at the hospital, Riley jumped up and tried to grab an officer?s gun. ?They had to fight with him again in the emergency room,? Judd said, adding that Riley was ultimately tied down and medicated.

A group of deputies later took Riley to jail in a white jumpsuit on Sunday. He appeared downcast, hanging his head and hardly opening his eyes, as reporters asked why he killed the family.

?The big question that all of us has is, ?Why??? State Attorney Brian Haas said. ?We will not know today or maybe ever.?

So lets talk about this being a 'mental health' thing. His behaviour up until the shooting was right on par with a very large percentage of the far right. So do we classify all of them as mentally ill...or do we say he wasn't mentally ill? Just food for thought.

He was having delusions, that's beyond just being a far right dick. Although, if it were my choice, any extremist wouldn't have the ability to have weapons.

Is this Q stuff and the beliefs that Democrats are raping and eating babies not a delusion? There is a large group of the RW that firmly believes this is happening and is ready to kill because of it. That doesn't sound that different from what happened in this story to me.

Like I mentioned, if it were my choice none of them would be able to have firearms.

This guy specifically said that he was talking to God though and that he was telling him what to do. The girlfriend should have said something and had him committed IMHO because we all know that when that shit starts happening, nothing good comes from it. At the very least, had him distracted by a friend and cleared out his weapons.

As expected, they are citing the law where they don't have to name the victims, but since we have the name of one of them I am moving this to non-mds deaths.

Ex-Marine Brian Riley (33) Formulated An Ops Plan, Tortured A Girl (11) & Left Her The Only Survivor Of A Family Massacre

I hope this isn't a dup & sorry about the title, it really doesn't convey the depth of horror this little girl & her family experienced, or how completely random & senseless it all was

Sheriff says sex-trafficking delusion drove 'well-trained' veteran to slaughter Lakeland family

    LAKELAND, Fla. ?
On Thursday, Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd held a news conference regarding the massacre of four people in Lakeland that occurred over the weekend.

"We have a family going through something right now no family should ever have to go through," Judd said.

The sheriff stated he is going to try to answer the question: "How did this evil person" find the victims?

Judd reiterated there was no relationship between Brian Riley, 33, and the victims, but investigators now know why he came across the victims in the first place.

According to Judd, a witness that lives in the area said he spoke to his friend Brian Riley a few days before the massacre, and Riley said he was planning to help with Hurricane Ida. The witness offered to give Riley a first aid kit.

Judd said Riley was at his friend's home picking up the first aid kit around 7 p.m. Saturday in the area of North Socrum Loop Road.

Just after 7 p.m. was when Riley approached noticed Justice Gleason mowing his lawn.

Riley approached 40-year-old Gleason and told him God gave him a vision that his daughter "Amber" would commit suicide. Gleason told him there was no one there by that name. Gleason threatened to call the police and Riley reportedly said, "No need to call the cops, I'm the cops for God" before leaving.

"He drove off mad," Judd said. "But never did Brian Riley make a threat ? just a bizarre, irrational statement."

Judd said investigators now know that Riley was "very angry" because he thought Gleason kept him from seeing the person he believed would commit suicide.

According to investigators, Riley said he then received another statement from God.

"God told me to kill everyone and rescue Amber because she is a victim of sex trafficking," Riley told police.

Judd said Riley said he then put an ops plan together, which "means you have to kill everyone."

Investigators believe Riley left his home at 1 a.m. with a large bag.

    The massacre didn't begin until 4:22 a.m.

"So, where has he been between then and 4:22 in the morning?" Judd said, saying Riley explained the actions he took leading up to the shooting.

Riley told investigators when he left his home, he took the following actions:

He did "reconnaissance" on Gleason's home.

Repositioned his truck three times so he would have a fast departure

Searched through the house to find three entrance points
    Planned diversions and exit strategy

Slashed the tires of two vehicles, one of which he would set on fire

Set a path of glowsticks so he'd be able to find his way out, "and so 'Amber' would be able to find her way out"

"There were no victims of sex crimes in that house," Judd stated.

Judd said Riley explained he shot through windows and entered the back apartment. He stated he "cleared the house," and killed the victim inside, a 62-year-old white female.

"He shot an entire magazine into the victim," Judd said.

Judd said Riley then entered the main house by shooting out the back glass door. He said, "I knew I made a lot of noise, so I knew I had to push through."

Riley told investigators, "God told me I was protected."

According to Judd, Riley said he first shot and killed the family dog. He then tried to open the bathroom door, where the family was hiding. He said he struggled to open the door before shooting through and entering. Judd said that's when Riley killed Justice Gleason, before finding Gleason's partner and child and killed them as well. Those victims were only identified as a 33-year-old white female and a 3-month-old white male.

Judd said Riley then found the 11-year-old survivor and asked, "Where is Amber?" According to statements from the girl and the suspect, Riley reportedly would ask her where "Amber" was and then shoot her when she would say she didn't know.

Judd said Riley told police: "I tortured her in order to investigate, in order to find Amber."

Judd said Riley also asked the 11-year-old, "Do you know why I killed your parents? They're sex traffickers."

Investigators believed Riley thought he ultimately had killed the girl, but she "played dead and prayed." She survived despite suffering a total of seven bullet wounds.

Judd said Riley then had a shootout with law enforcement and was ultimately shot in the stomach before surrendering.

Judd said a total of five deputies and one police officer opened fire Sunday morning, firing 59 times. Judd said Riley shot "in excess of 100 times."

"He was a coward, an absolute coward. He looks like a man, but he's not a man, he's a sniveling coward," Judd said. "He was a bad dude when he went into this house and shot and killed a 3-month-old baby in its mother's arms."

Judd said Riley confessed at the hospital to the entire massacre. He stressed Riley's advanced tactical training: Four years in the Marines, three years in the reserves, he worked in executive and private security. Judd said he was "well thought of and well-trained," with 16 separate certificates in security.

The sheriff said investigators are still working on the scene and will continue to for perhaps the rest of the week.

"I was asleep when dad woke me up and took me in the bathroom to hide me," the 11-year-old said, according to Judd. He said the child has suffered incredible pain and loss and called her "brave."

"But she's alive, and how she survived that is truly a God thing," Judd said.

Riley "has shown zero remorse," Judd said.

He also noted that investigators believe he was under the influence of illegal steroids. Judd said Riley also told deputies that he was on meth.

The sheriff said there has been a lot of interest in helping the family. He said the family desperately needs help, as there are hospital bills, funeral bills and two residences destroyed.

"I never had a class in high school to help me deal with this," one relative reportedly said.

He said those wishing to help should donate to "quadruple homicide" at Polk Sheriff Charities, 100 percent will go to the family.

Riley has been denied bond and he faces the following charges:

His explanation makes no sense. He was saving a girl named Amber, but killed innocent children? Yeah, okay.

This is disturbing on many levels. I'm never answering the door again. Rest in peace to that poor family. Many prayers to the surviving little girl. She's going to need a lot of help.

Something is going to have to be done about the disinformation in this country. There's a political party lying to their voters, preaching antivaxx, while requiring the vaccine and a 'vaccine passport'.
