At least 6 dead in shooting at King Soopers in Boulder, multiple law enforcement officials say

Multiple law enforcement officials have confirmed at least six people are dead in a shooting at the King Soopers on Table Mesa Drive.

The shooting happened after 2:30 p.m. State law enforcement officials said when they arrived at the scene, a suspect opened fire on them.

AirTracker7 said three medevac helicopters were called in and were landing at Fairview High School.

I did not miss mass shootings... I hate the wanton mayhem and I'm sure it's too soon to talk about gun violence.

Apparently one of the victims in the Mass Shooting was a Bolder officer.

DENVER — Multiple law enforcement officials have confirmed at least six people are dead, including one Boulder Police officer, in a shooting at the King Soopers on Table Mesa Drive.

The shooting happened after 2:30 p.m. and police arrived within minutes of initial 911 calls. State law enforcement officials said when they arrived at the scene, a suspect opened fire on them.

During a press conference that began around 6:50 p.m., law enforcement and investigators released limited information. They did not confirm how many people were killed or hurt, but they did say the suspect has been taken into custody and there is no longer a threat to the public.

Officials confirmed the suspect went to the hospital. They say he is the only person injured that they're aware of and they know of no other serious injuries at this point.

Boulder Community Health confirmed they have one patient and would not be receiving any additional patients. It's unclear if the suspect is the patient.

Investigators said they could not provide information on a possible motive.

AirTracker7 said three medevac helicopters were called in and were landing at Fairview High School. Video from the scene showed one man with a bloody leg being led away from the store in handcuffs and being loaded into an ambulance. Police would not confirm if he was the suspect.

Many police officers from different agencies have responded to the scene and are telling people to avoid the area of the King Soopers.

The Boulder Valley School District says Boulder High is currently on SECURE-Lockout, which means any students on campus will stay inside due to police activity. It says no one should come to the area at this time. Students and coaches part of athletic teams were at Boulder High School when they were alerted of police responding to a situation in the neighborhood nearby. They are all safe and waiting for an all-clear.
The Boulder Police Department also sent out an emergency notification for people in the area of 17th Street and Grove Street to shelter in place for a report of an armed, dangerous individual potentially connected to the King Soopers situation. The shelter in place was lifted at 6:41 p.m. and investigators later confirmed it was unrelated.

Andrew Hummel was in the store at the time of the shooting when he said he heard a loud bang and everyone began sprinting toward the back of the store. He was able to get out safely. He says he heard multiple gunshots while he was inside.

"I pray that everybody impacted by this is doing all right," Hummel said.

Hummel's friend and roommate, Mason, works at the King Soopers. He is also OK, but Hummel said his friend texted that he didn't know if he'd make it out alive.

“One of the biggest like scary texts he sent, he just said ‘I love you guys. Thank you for everything in case things go bad.’ That was a really hard text, especially me being in this situation. That was something I would never want to hear from any of my friends. Because I knew the seriousness of what was going on. It was horrifying. It was truly horrifying,” Hummel said.
A King Soopers employee in Boulder, Andy Arellano, grabbed his phone and started dialing 911 as the shots were getting closer. His manager said to go into the back door.

“There’s never another time I’ve like had this situation before, you know? Not many have,” Arellano said.

Sarah Moonshadow lives just a mile away has been coming to the King Soopers daily for a while. She and her 21-year-old son, Nick, heard the gunshots and got down. She said she heard multiple gunshots. The two started running to leave the store. On the way out, Moonshadow said she saw an older man laying in the street.

"There was a guy laying out in the street as soon as we got outside. And I started running toward him to try to help him, and my son said, ‘No, we can’t help him. We’ve gotta go’” Moonshadow said.

She said she wanted to stop, but she needed to keep to running because they were still too close and they didn't know if the shooter was following them.

The FBI Denver said the Boulder Police Department has requested they assist with the investigation.

Following the shooting, King Soopers released the below statement:

We are horrified and deeply saddened by the senseless violence that occurred at our King Soopers store located on Table Mesa Drive in Boulder, CO.

The entire King Soopers family offers our thoughts, prayers and support to our associates, customers, and the first responders who so bravely responded to this tragic situation.

We will continue to cooperate with local law enforcement and our store will remain closed during the police investigation.

To protect the integrity of the ongoing investigation, we are referring questions to the Boulder Police Department.
Gov. Jared Polis said in a tweet, "My prayers are with our fellow Coloradans in this time of sadness and grief as we learn more about the extent of the tragedy."
Polis has since released the below statement:

“My heart is breaking as we watch this unspeakable event unfold in our Boulder community. We are making every public safety resource available to assist the Boulder County Sheriff's Department as they work to secure the store. I’m incredibly grateful to the brave men and women who have responded to the scene to help the victims of this senseless tragedy. This is very much an active situation and we continue to monitor very closely. We ask for your patience as law enforcement works tirelessly to secure the site. Right now, the biggest priority is to let local law enforcement and the City of Boulder do their work to ensure the safety of those involved.”

Attorney General Merrick Garland has been briefed on the shooting, a DOJ official told ABC News. Jen Psaki, President Joe Biden's press secretary, has also been briefed and being kept up to date by his team on additional developments.

The United Food and Commercial Workers International Union (UFCW) Local 7 represents 32 members who work at the store. They are connecting with their members who work there.

Officer Eric Talley one of the dead.

Ten people were killed Monday, including a police officer, when a gunman opened fire at a supermarket in Boulder, Colorado, the second mass shooting in the U.S. in a week.

Commander Kerry Yamaguchi of the Boulder Police Department said a suspect has been arrested.

"There is no ongoing public threat,'' Yamaguchi said in a 10-minute news conference. "We do have a person of interest in custody. That person was injured during the incident and is being treated for the injuries.''

Boulder County District Attorney Michael Dougherty called the events "a tragedy and a nightmare'' but shared few details, saying the investigation is just beginning.

No motive for the attack was presented at the press briefing.

The shooting comes six days after eight people – six of them women of Asian descent – were killed by a gunman at three spas in Atlanta and a nearby county.

The White House said President Joe Biden has been briefed on Monday's attack and will be kept up to date on developments. The FBI office in Denver tweeted that it's assisting in the investigation at the request of the Boulder police.

Officers armed with tactical gear and rifles responded Monday afternoon to reports of an active shooter at a King Soopers supermarket in the southern part of Boulder, about 25 miles northwest of Denver.

At 2.49 p.m. local time, the Boulder Police Department tweeted an alert for people to stay away from the area around the supermarket.

At one point, authorities were heard over a loudspeaker telling someone the building was surrounded and “you need to surrender” and come out with hands up and unarmed. more at link

I saw a video someone posted on YouTube that they recorded during the active shooting. He and two other guys were just standing around the front door talking while you could hear gunshots in the background. Those guys were so stupid! I bet people heard about the active shooting and tried to go to the store to get footage they could sell to a news crew. This is one of the reasons I don't like Americans.

Knutson remembered Leiker as “the most innocent, caring, and loving individual that the world held.” She told Reuters she was introduced to Leiker as part of a program that connected people with “intellectual and developmental disabilities” with students at the University of Colorado. Knutson said Leiker “loved going to work.” She had been employed by the supermarket for about three decades.

Yep. For good or bad. We'd never have heard about George Floyd, never have found many of the capitol wackos, but for cell phone cameras... but lots of people wouldn't have fallen off of cliffs or blown up their friends if it hadn't been for wanting to be Internet famous.

    Thanks, Up.

I feel bad for feeling relieved. I have some friends and family in that area, and they are all safe. But of course other peoples loved ones are gone. When will we say enough!

BOULDER, Colo. (CBS4) – Boulder Police rushed to an active shooter call at a King Soopers on Table Mesa Drive near South Broadway. The call came in at around 2:30 p.m.

Boulder police says 10 people died, one being a Boulder police officer, said Kerry Yamaguchi, a commander at BPD.

Copter4 saw hundreds of police and first responder vehicles, including SWAT officers, outside the building.

One man without a shirt on was walked out of the store in handcuffs about an hour after the first call.

It appears his right leg was covered in blood. He was led to an ambulance and taken away to a local hospital. Police say they are the only other person who was injured aside from those who were killed.

Police say there is no further threat to the public.

The Boulder District Attorney says they are working to gather all of the details of the situation. Crime scene analysts are inside the store processing evidence. They add families of the victims are still being notified.

Some customers were seen being led through the parking lot by police. A reunification center is being set up at the CU Event Center at 950 Regent Drive.

Boulder Community Health tells CBS4 at least one person was brought to their emergency room due to this shooting.

“Heard a loud bang… thought someone dropped something. Then by the third bang everyone was running,” one man told CBS4’s Conor McCue.

McCue reports hearing police make announcements stating “Surrender now!” toward someone either inside the store or perhaps inside a vehicle.

Another man told McCue his family was in line for a COVID-19 vaccine shot at the pharmacy when a gunman shot someone nearby. The man’s family then ran and hid in a closet. Those victims were then led out of the store by police.

The man told CBS4 he was on his way to reunite with them outside the store.

Dean Schiller, who had just left the store, told The Associated Press he heard gunshots and saw three people lying face down, two in the parking lot and one near the doorway. He said he “couldn’t tell if they were breathing.”

“Boulder feels like a bubble and the bubble burst and that’s heartbreaking to think that that people died in this today. And, you know, we just it doesn’t feel like there is anywhere safe anymore sometimes, and this feels like the safest spot in America and I just nearly got killed for getting a soda and a bag of chips,” said Ryan Borowski.

The front of the store sustained heavy damage.

It’s not clear what caused the damage.

At least three medical helicopters were seen landing at Fairview High School.

The Jefferson County SWAT team is at least one Denver metro area agency helping in this situation. Lakewood and Denver police are also sending help.

The Denver office of the FBI says it is also now assisting Boulder police.

While there were more than a dozen onlookers on the sidewalk across the street, police ask the public to avoid the area and also to not broadcast tactical information on social media.

Witnesses who have not spoken to police are asked to contact Boulder PD at 303-441-3333.

The University of Colorado Boulder canceled evening classes due to the situation. The Boulder Valley School District announced Boulder High School was on secure lockout.

“Any students on campus will stay inside due to police activity. Do NOT come to the area at this time,” BVSD stated.

The district adds a few athletic teams were at the high school when officers responded to an apartment complex on 17th and Grove Streets. School officials say students and coaches are safe and waiting to be given an all-clear.

Police now say that incident is unrelated to the shooting at the King Soopers.

Gov. Jared Polis shared his prayers and thoughts with victims and their families.

The White House Press Secretary tweeted President Joe Biden has been briefed on the shooting.

King Soopers released the following statement about the shooting:

We are horrified and deeply saddened by the senseless violence that occurred at our King Soopers store located on Table Mesa Drive in Boulder, CO.

The entire King Soopers family offers our thoughts, prayers and support to our associates, customers, and the first responders who so bravely responded to this tragic situation.

We will continue to cooperate with local law enforcement and our store will remain closed during the police investigation.

To protect the integrity of the ongoing investigation, we are referring questions to the Boulder Police Department. – Kelli McGannon

The workers union representing 33 employees at the store released a statement which reads in part:

“No one should have to fear for their lives while they grocery shop or go to work every day. Unfortunately, our grocery members, frontline Essential Workers, have lived in fear each and every day during the pandemic.”

Facebook removes profiles of alleged Boulder shooter

    https://www.nydailynews.com/news/nat...cva-story.html

Facebook said Tuesday it had removed profiles on its different platforms connected to alleged Boulder supermarket shooter Ahmad Alissa.

A spokesperson for the social media company told ABC 7 Denver that it had already taken a number of steps to ward off copycat attempts or further radicalization.

“Yesterday, we designated the shooting as a mass shooting under our Dangerous Individuals and Organizations policy, which means we will continue to remove content that praises, supports or represents the shooting or the identified suspect.”

“In line with this policy, we have removed accounts for the identified suspect from Facebook and Instagram.”

“We will remove any additional accounts belonging to the suspect or accounts created by others in his name if we find them on our services.”

“We are also temporarily preventing other people on Facebook and Instagram from creating accounts with the same name as the suspect.”

“We are in contact with law enforcement on this matter.”

Alissa was charged with 10 counts of murder earlier Tuesday after allegedly opening fire with an AR-15-style rifle at a King Soopers grocery store Monday afternoon. He was taken into custody within a matter of hours.

I'm going out on a limb and assume they are saying radical because he was Muslim. I saw his Facebook before it was taken down. I didn't think anything was radical; he was obviously religious.

Thank you for posting this. i didn't see it.

Of course he will be 'radical' because he was a Muslim...whether he was or wasn't. Christians can't be radical and all Muslims are radical, don't you know? There are radical Muslims, just like there are radical Christians, but the majority of Muslims are just normal people like you and me, going about their lives. They have problems and issues, but all of those don't stem from radical Islam.

I can't be the only one out here, I'm just not. Don't worry about it. Mind your fucking business.

I haven't seen that in the MSM, but have seen the comments about him being a radical Muslim.

ETA: don't get me wrong, he's a POS like all these mass murderers, but I don't want to see Islam scapegoated if it wasn't the cause.

Officials misspelled Denny Stong's name in their initial release. There is no "r" in Stong's name.
