LAS VEGAS (KLAS) ? A Wynn Las Vegas employee allegedly shot and killed a security officer in the Wynn employee parking garage before killing himself Tuesday night.

Homicide Lt. Ray Spencer says the suspect, who had been a no-show at work for the previous two days, arrived on property. Once he pulled into the parking garage and used his proxy card, it triggered security due to his recent absence.

The suspect parked his vehicle in the fifth-floor of the parking garage.

When a security officer went to check on the employee?s welfare, he was met with gunfire when he approached the vehicle door. The officer was struck multiple times and pronounced dead on scene.

Spencer says the suspect walked away from the vehicle and shot himself once. He was also pronounced dead on scene.

There were no other people around, and it was a remote part of the secure parking garage.

Spencer says the families of those employees involved have been notified of the incident.

Wynn CEO Matt Maddox issued this statement Tuesday night:

We are deeply saddened by the tragic incident that occurred this evening. We have reached out to the families of our two employees to offer our condolences and assistance during this difficult time.

    MATT MADDOX, CEO, WYNN RESORTS
Police do not believe there is a link between the security officer and the suspect. Spencer says Wynn security procedures prompted the officer to go check on the man due to his absence.

The officer was a Hispanic man in his early 30s. The suspect was a Hispanic male in his early 40s. Police do not know what led the suspect to his actions.

After being asked about Metro?s response to the incident, especially after the events of 1 October, Spencer stressed this was an isolated incident of workplace violence and that there is ?no link whatsoever? to 1 October. He noted Wynn has robust security procedures and that you will not get a ?better trained? response than the hotels on the Las Vegas Strip.

?This property has an exceptional security response. They handled this extremely well with their own internal response,? said the lieutenant. ?As far as Metro ? anything that happens, we?re going to bring as many resources as we need to bring to make sure the citizens and tourists in this valley are safe.?

He says there will be a heavy police presence anytime there is a violent incident on the Las Vegas Strip.

    The investigation is ongoing.

Yoseph Almonte, 31 is identified as the security guard killed and Reggie Tagget, 42 is named as the shooter.

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — The Clark County Coroner identified Yoseph Almonte, 31, as the Wynn security officer who was shot and killed in a murder-suicide at the resort’s employee parking garage March 9. His cause and manner of death are still pending.

The coroner earlier identified Reggie Tagget, 42, as the other Wynn employee involved in the incident. His death was ruled a suicide, caused by a contact gunshot wound of the chest.

Tagget allegedly shot and killed Almonte at the Wynn employee parking garage before turning the gun on himself.

During a briefing after the incident, homicide Lt. Ray Spencer said the suspect, who had been a no-show at work for the previous two days, arrived on property. Once Tagget pulled into the parking garage and used his proxy card, it triggered security due to his recent absence.

Spencer says the suspect walked away from the vehicle and shot himself once. He was also pronounced dead on scene.

There were no other people around, and it was a remote part of the secure parking garage.

Spencer says the families of those involved have been notified of the incident.
