    CINCINNATI '

Detroit police Chief James Craig held a news conference Monday, saying 55-year-old Chandra Moore was involved in a shootout with police. The same man, according to investigators, murdered three people Sunday night in Cincinnati.

"He did commit a triple homicide out of the city of Cincinnati and there are two additional victims of attempt murder ' a total of five victims," Craig said.

Craig said Moore killed his estranged wife, 28-year-old Brittany Wagoner. She was found Sunday night at the Alms Apartments on Victory Parkway in Walnut Hills.

Detectives also said Moore shot four people in a house on Idlewild Avenue. Two of the people who were shot in that house died -- 33-year-old Timothy Dugar and 35-year-old Andrew Wesley.

Craig said Moore spent his overnight hours in a motel in Detroit. The chief said his officers waited patiently for Moore to leave his room, mindful of the safety of other guests at the motel.

When Moore emerged Monday morning, Chief Craig said he opened fire.

"He was looking around, basically looking for police officers," Craig said. "He took his time. He went to a vehicle. It was parked. He positioned himself and then immediately opened fire."

Craig said thankfully no officers were injured.

"This was a very dangerous suspect. Clearly, he was focused on one thing and that's taking additional lives ' and try to take out police officers, unsuccessfully," he said.

Craig said Moore was shot several times by police. Moore is in critical condition at a hospital in Detroit.

Craig also said officers recovered three handguns, one semi-automatic and two revolvers that Moore had with him.
