An ex-boyfriend of a woman missing from Richland County is wanted for kidnapping, according to the Richland County Sheriff's Office.

Shelby police took a report on Feb. 25 that 33-year-old Melinda Davis never arrived at a home on Cliffside Drive in Mansfield, to which she was headed that morning.

Authorities say it's believed she was going to Mansfield to see her ex-boyfriend, 43-year-old John Mack Jr.

She was last seen near Shelby High School around 7:20 a.m. on Feb. 25.

Davis was driving her black 2013 Volkswagen Jetta with an Ohio license plate number of JGZ8921.

After searching the Cliffside Drive home, and not finding Davis, her car, or Mack, detectives obtained an arrest warrant was issued for Mack on a charge of kidnapping.

Davis is 5-feet tall, weighs about 145 pounds and has brown hair and brown eyes.

She was last seen wearing a white shirt, grey sweat pants and pink flip flops.

Davis has tattoos on both arms and wrists and on her right and left shoulders.

Mack is 5-feet-9 inches tall, weighs 200 pounds and has black hair and brown eyes.

The sheriff’s office obtained a search warrant and later an arrest warrant for Mack Jr., 43, for kidnapping.

He was arrested Friday, March 5, and arraigned the same day on a single kidnapping charge.

He’s being held on a $1 million bond.

Davis has not been found and neither has her car. Her family and friends are looking for help in the case.

They’ve donated $5,000 as a reward for information leading to her whereabouts. They’re hoping other people will come forward to donate to that reward as well to help gain more interest in the case.

They also want to find Melinda’s vehicle. It’s a Black 2013 Volkswagen Jetta with Ohio plates JGZ8921. They believe it contains crucial evidence that could help keep the suspect in jail.

Mack Jr. has another hearing scheduled on March 25.

Melinda has tattoos on both arms, wrists, and shoulders.

She’s 5’0”, 145 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes.

Missing woman Melinda Kay Davis was found dead, the Richland County Sheriff’s Office announced today during a press conference.

After an 18-day search, the sheriff’s office said the Columbus police received a tip that someone had found the Shelby woman’s car Sunday evening in Galloway, Ohio. When law enforcement arrived, Davis’ body was reportedly found in the trunk of the vehicle.

The 33-year-old mother of four was last seen on her way to a home on Cliffside Drive in Mansfield, where her ex-boyfriend lived.

During the press conference, officials said they were not able to talk about motive in this case at this time, although they did say they take domestic violence seriously.

An autopsy is reportedly being done at this time. An investigation is still ongoing.
