Parents lose lawsuit over destruction of son's porn stash

    https://abcnews.go.com/Weird/wireSto...stash-74799119

A man who sued his parents for getting rid of his pornography collection has won a lawsuit in western Michigan and can seek compensation.

U.S. District Judge Paul Maloney ruled in favor of David Werking, who said his parents had no right to throw out his collection. He lived at their Grand Haven home for 10 months after a divorce before moving to Muncie, Indiana.

Werking said boxes of films and magazines worth an estimated $29,000 were missing.

?There is no question that the destroyed property was David?s property,? Maloney said Monday. ?Defendants repeatedly admitted that they destroyed the property."

Werking's parents said they had a right to act as his landlords.

?Defendants do not cite to any statute or caselaw to support their assertion that landlords can destroy property that they dislike,? the judge said.

Maloney told both sides to file briefs on the financial value of the collection.

"The court does not intend to hold an evidentiary hearing," he said.

Ruh-roh.... Does this open the door to suing parents for throwing out old baseball card and comic book collections?

    Also.... $29,000 worth of porn?!

"Mom we need to talk about a box of comic books and 1969." I don't want to go all legal on you but...

See I went to girl scout camp, against my better judgement I might add. And when I came home I found a sparkling clean room with a fresh paint job new furnature and like 3 comic books. All of my Caspar comics, all the Richie Rich's and most of the Archies. Gone.

My dad used to throw away our toys because he is an asshole. I truly can't wait till he's dead.
I started getting into reselling stuff around the house, joined a few Facebook groups on the subject.
I wished I had some of the stuff I donated 5 years ago to resell.

Ugh, what a jackhole move. My Mom used to throw out my scrapbooks. Well, they weren't actually in books because we were poor, so I guess my Mom threw out my scraps, which aren't really toys and probably looked like garbage to an adult. Okay, nevermind.

I used to let my kids decide what they got rid of. If things got out of hand, I'd hide the offending toys in the attic for a few months. If they didn't ask for them after a reasonable amount of time, I felt free to pass them along.

And the worst of it is, they thought they were doing a good thing. Well they were. My new furniture was nice, the room was purple... and I had read all the comic books, (and I must say Mom isn't a reader, she can't understand why I would read a comic book once, still yet want to keep one you'd already read)

But anyway, I had to pretend to be grateful... and I know they didn't do it to be assholes. But still.

That almost makes it worse. At least if they were being jackholes you wouldn't have to feel guilty about being angry. It's sad to think of how excited they were and how devastated you were.

Exactly so. I did have a chance to be excited and glad... It was only when I started looking for my stuff... Mom gave away my little kid toys. Well OK I DIDN'T play with most of that stuff, and a bunch of clothing that was old, etc. She did keep my stuffed bear, etc. The comic books were the worst. So where are my comics? Oh. I gave those to your cousin Ronda... OMG mom. She'll ruin them. And I was right. She cut them up and pasted them all over. NOOOO.

I know this was exactly the room mom would have wanted when she was a kid sharing with a passel of sisters so I'm no bitter. No well at least I've never told her so.

OMG, this story gets sadder and sadder. I just want to give 12yo you a hug and say, "She meant well." She was probably so excited to give you what she always wanted but never had.

Seriously. He could've sold it and he wouldn't have had to live with his parents.

Exactly! Or he could've sold it and saved his marriage. I just want to know what $29k worth of porn consists of. First issue of Playboy? Every issue of Playboy?
