ANDES - Peter James DePierro, 20, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, Nov. 20, 2020.

Peter was born on Jan. 14, 2000, in the Philippines, the eldest child of Peter and Melbourne DePierro.

In addition his parents, he leaves behind his two younger sisters, Lykah, age 8, and Sasha, age 3. Lykah truly adored her brother, as if he were her hero.

Peter James attended Andes Central School from kindergarten, graduating in 2018 as class valedictorian.

Peter James participated in high school athletics, as well as many theater productions. Peter James also received numerous awards for his academic and sports participation. Peter James was a high school varsity track and field team member. During this time, he received the Iron Man Award and Babe Ruth Memorial Award, given to individuals who exemplify excellence in team sportsmanship and leadership. He was also a dedicated member of the Andes music department and drama department since sixth grade. He found his talent was entertaining others with his charm and smile. He was also an active member of the National Honor Society and Student Council. Peter James was also a class officer in his senior year. He truly enjoyed his time with his friends.

In April of 2018 Peter James enjoyed his senior trip to the Bahamas with his classmates. The trip was a capstone event for Peter James and his senior class members. He spoke often of the fun times he had on this trip with classmates and the two chaperones, Mrs. Ennist, class adviser and Dr. Chakar, school superintendent.

In May of 2018 he was honored at the Scholar Recognition Banquet at SUNY Oneonta for his academic and leadership skills. In June of 2018 at his graduation ceremony, Peter James was awarded the 2018 James L. Kmak Engineering Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $5,000 toward his education.

Peter James completed his associate degree at SUNY Canton in engineering science in May and was moving forward toward his four-year degree, with hopes of graduating with an engineering degree. He was also named to the spring semester dean's list there.

Calling hours will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 27, at MacArthur Funeral Home, 134 Main St., Delhi. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Because of COVID-19 restrictions, social distancing and the wearing of masks will be required. A limited number of people will be allowed into the funeral home at one time.
