A convicted murderer who escaped federal custody in 1971 and remained on the lam for almost five decades was captured Thursday in Michigan.

Leonard Moses, 68, was serving a life sentence without parole for killing Mary Amplo in Pittsburgh on April 6, 1968, during nationwide unrest following the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr.

Moses and others threw Molotov cocktails at the 72-year-old Amplo?s house, according to the FBI. Amplo died from burns suffered in the fire.

In 1971, the feds let Moses attend his grandmother?s funeral in Pittsburgh, but he ditched them and landed on the FBI?s Most Wanted list instead.

Moses carved out a new life for himself in southeast Michigan, the FBI said in a press release. He was registered as a traveling pharmacist in the state since 1999 under the name Paul Dickson.

But Moses blew it in January 2020, when he was arrested and charged with stealing $43 worth of pills from a CVS in suburban Detroit, according to Pittsburgh NBC affiliate WPXI. Police took his fingerprints and entered them in a federal database, which allowed the FBI to find him.

Moses was arrested without incident at his house in Grand Blanc, Mich., about 50 miles northwest of downtown Detroit, according to the feds. He was detained in Detroit while awaiting extradition back to western Pennsylvania.
