HENDERSON, Nevada. (ABC4 News) ' Four people are dead, including at least two Utahns, following a shooting in Henderson, Nevada on Tuesday.
According to Henderson Police, they responded around 11 a.m. at the Douglas at Stonelake apartments on the 1400 block of Stonelake Cove Avenue on a report of resident hearing gunshots and observing a subject down in the doorway of a nearby apartment.
Henderson Police said officers arrived on the scene to discover a 39-year-old female and a 33-year-old female deceased, and a 16-year-old female injured, all with gunshot wounds. The girl was transported to the hospital in stable condition.
Officers then located the suspect, identified as 38-year-old Jason Neo Bourne, armed with a handgun, and barricaded in a nearby vehicle, holding a 12-year-old male hostage.
Officers attempted to de-escalate the situation but when the suspect held his gun to the juvenile's head, it resulting in an officer-involved shooting.
Officers extricated the juvenile from the vehicle and immediately began life-saving measures however, he died from his injuries at the scene, along with the suspect.
A preliminary investigation indicated the suspect fired multiple rounds inside the vehicle. All police said about the suspect was they knew he resided in the apartment above the victim(s).
The name of the victims have not been released by the Clark County Coroner's Office however, in a letter sent to the Skaggs Catholic Center Community, and posted to the Saint John the Baptist Church Facebook, two of the victims who died have been identified as Diana Hawatmeh and her son Joseph who is a 7th grader at Saint John the Baptist Middle School in Draper. Her daughter is the 16-year-old injured.
According to the letter, Diana's husband and oldest son were not involved in the incident.
