The Vallejo Police Department has launched an investigation into a shooting that occurred early Sunday morning on the 1900 block of Ascot Parkway.

The shooting was first reported at 3:52 a..m. and upon arrival, officers located an adult male suffering from at least one gunshot wound.

Officers engaged in life-saving measures, but the 28-year-old victim, a Vallejo resident, was pronounced deceased at the scene by Vallejo Fire and EMS personnel.

The victim?s name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin by the Solano County Coroner?s Office.

The Vallejo Police Department Detective Division and crime scene personnel responded to take over the investigation.

This is Vallejo?s 23rd homicide of 2020, although the shooting of 22-year-old Sean Monterrosa by the Vallejo police is not included in the total. The 23 homicides are the most in a year for Vallejo since the city had 25 in 2013. The record high for the city is 30 in 1994.
