Somehow the Police will try and blame Jonathan Price for the Domestic Dispute even though Price actually ended that. And Yes Black Lives Matter.

What the hell you expect we are lecturing men to be good Samaritans and Price gets killed for being a Samaritan. Somehow we preach to Blacks to be like Price and they get killed anyway by Police and the Officers Lawyers will call a dead Black Samaritan a Thug. Don't get me wrong I know in past Police Brutality cases it was Black poor mentally disabled people who were getting killed by the Police and now there is a petition out for this

    Bingo!!

HUNT COUNTY (CBSDFW.COM) – The attorney for the Wolfe City police officer charged with murder after allegedly killing Jonathan Price says his client shot Price after he resisted and tried to take his Taser.

Defense Attorney Robert L. Rogers represents Officer Shaun Lucas. He sent CBS 11 News the following statement:

“Officer Lucas responded to a fight in progress call. He saw several people gathered at the front of the store. Mr. Price approached Officer Lucas. Mr. Price did not claim to be an uninvolved, innocent party. Officer Lucas told Mr. Price he was detained, and Mr. Price resisted. After Mr. Price refused repeated instructions and physically resisted, Officer Lucas deployed his Taser and continued to give Mr. Price instructions. Mr. Price resisted the effects of the Taser and attempted to take it away from Officer Lucas. Officer Lucas only discharged his weapon in accordance with Texas law when he was confronted with an aggressive assailant who was attempting to take his Taser. “

Officer Lucas was arrested on October 5 and charged with the shooting death of Price, who had allegedly intervened in a domestic violence incident outside a convenience store.

Earlier on Tuesday Hunt County District Attorney Noble Walker issued a statement concerning the case that said, in part, “Though an arrest has been made, our office has not received the case from the Texas Rangers as it remains an active and ongoing investigation. As is customary, this case will be filed with our office once the investigation is complete.”

During a Tuesday afternoon press conference, civil rights attorney Lee Merritt, who is representing the family, responded saying, “A prosecutor is responsible, they have investigators in that office, who are responsible to coordinate with the Texas Rangers. This is not the Texas Rangers investigation alone, but it is the responsibility of the elected prosecutor of Hunt County to actively participate in this investigation, to lead and direct the Rangers.”

On Monday the Texas Rangers, who are handling the investigation, gave some brief details about what happened on the evening of October 3. The statement they released said, in part –

“Officer Lucas attempted to detain Price, who resisted in a non-threatening posture and began walking away. Officer Lucas deployed his Taser followed by discharging his service weapon striking Price. EMS was notified and Price was transported to Hunt Regional Hospital, where he later died. The preliminary investigation indicates that the actions of Officer Lucas were not objectionably reasonable.”

Still referring to DA Noble’s recent statement, Merritt said, “We found very problematic his statement that the Rangers will present the case to the grand jury. Absolutely not, his office will present this case to the grand jury — through the Rangers.”

Before Lucas was arrested Price’s family said there was video of the shooting and that the Wolfe City police chief had seen it and “wasn’t happy with what he saw.”

Law enforcement agencies haven’t confirmed the claims about the domestic violence disturbance, but family and friends of Price said the one-time college football player was being a Good Samaritan when he was shot.

Hundreds of people marched through Wolfe City on Monday night, peacefully protesting and holding a candlelight vigil for Price.

Former MLB player Will Middlebrooks, a childhood friend of Price, set up a “Justice for Jonathan” GoFundMe page, that as of Tuesday afternoon had raised more than $82,000. Middlebrooks said his friend was “singled out” for his skin color.

CBS 11 News has learned that Lucas had been an officer for less than six months. The 22-year-old has been put on administrative leave and is being held on a $1 million bond.

Rogers also represented former Dallas police officer Amber Guyger during her murder trial of Botham Jean, which gained international notoriety
I knew Officer Lucas Lawyer was gonna blame the victim here it was when.

New Defense out on Ex Officer lucas

An attorney for the white Texas police officer charged for murder after fatally shooting a Black man outside a convenience store last weekend said his client discharged his weapon "in accordance with Texas law" after Jonathan Price tried to take away his taser.

The Texas Rangers charged Wolfe City officer Shaun Lucas with murder on Monday night. The 22-year-old was booked into the Hunt County Jail, where his bail was set at $1 million, according to jail records.

"Officer Lucas only discharged his weapon in accordance with Texas law when he was confronted with an aggressive assailant who was attempting to take his taser," Robert L. Rogers, the attorney, told USA TODAY in an emailed statement Tuesday.

Lucas shot Price after responding to a disturbance call Saturday night "for a possible fight in progress," officials said.

The officer tried to detain Price "who resisted in a non-threatening posture and began walking away," according to the Rangers' statement. Lucas then used a Taser on Price before shooting him with his service weapon, officials said.

"The preliminary investigation indicates that the actions of Officer Lucas were not objectionably reasonable," officials said.

Lucas had been with the Wolfe City Police Department for less than six months, according to records from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement. He previously worked as a jailer with the Hunt County's Sheriff's Office for about five months.

Price was a former Hardin-Simmons University student and football player. He worked in his hometown as a city employee and personal trainer.

Kyla Sanders, who was at a store across the street at the time of the shooting, told WFAA-TV that Price was a "pillar of the community."

The 31-year-old's mother, Marcella Louis, said she was able to sleep Monday night after learning of the officer's arrest.

"My son didn't deserve this," she said. "He really didn't. He helped everybody in this community and had a big heart and spirit. I'm going to miss just seeing his smiling face."

Civil rights attorney Lee Merritt, who is representing Price's family, said the murder charge is a "step" toward justice.

"This is step one. Let’s see it through to justice," Merritt said on Twitter.

    Update Shaun Lucas is fired

The white Texas police officer charged with murdering a Black man was fired by his city Thursday.

Shaun Lucas, 22, fatally shot Jonathan Price, 31, on Oct. 3 and was charged with murder three days later.

The city of Wolfe City canned Lucas for an “egregious violation” of department policy when killing Price, the city announced in a press release.

Family and friends said Price was breaking up a fight at a gas station in the 1,500-person town, about 65 miles northeast of Dallas, when Lucas arrived. According to an affidavit, Price offered Lucas a handshake and asked how he was doing.

Despite the friendly greeting, Lucas assumed Price was drunk and tried to arrest him, according to the affidavit. After Lucas fired an ineffective Taser blast, Price appeared to reach for the stun gun, the affidavit said. At that point, Lucas fired four bullets into Price’s torso, killing him.

The shooting was recorded on Lucas' body camera, but that footage has not yet been publicly released.

Price was a former college football player whose friends described him as a “hometown hero.”

Lucas was a Wolfe City police officer for just six months before his Thursday firing.

    More details on the fallout

The white Texas police officer who tased and fatally shot Jonathan Price at a small town gas station this month is allegedly known by a number of locals for his overly-aggressive policing tactics.

Shaun Lucas, the Wolfe City police officer in question, had been on the force for less than six months before carrying out the deadly arrest of Price, an unarmed 31-year-old Black man.

Before Price’s shooting, however, Lucas had already cemented his reputation as an overzealous rookie with a tendency to harass the town’s Black residents, a number of locals claim, according to an investigation by the Washington Post.

In the weeks following Lucas’ arrival in the small Texas town of 1,400 people, residents used social media to warn their neighbors about the “new cop.” The 22-year-old police officer, locals complained, was “another mean police officer” who pulled over “everything that moves at night.” Where the hell did he come from?” Veronica Brown, a Wolfe City resident, told the Washington Post. “He is the worst cop Wolfe City ever had.”

Lucas arrested Brown’s 65-year-old cousin, she claimed, after the young police officer mistakenly suspected her elderly relative was intoxicated due to a limp.

“He thought I was drunk,” the man, James Alton Brown, told the Post. “So he took me to jail.”

The charges were ultimately dropped, the newspaper reported.

Other Black residents, too, questioned Lucas’ overzealous approach to law enforcement — and went out of their way to avoid him.

“His vibe was off,” Alexandria Childs recalled her father cautioning her, the Post reported.

Childs, a Black woman, also said her family warned her to “be careful” when she “came to town” because of Lucas.

Lee Merritt, Price's family attorney, who also represents Ahmaud Arbery and George Floyd's relatives, called Price's shooting a "huge tragedy" on Wednesday. The family's lawyer, too, suspects Lucas has a “history of racism.”

“I can’t tell you what was in the head of Mr. Lucas,” Merritt told Oxygen.com. “I can tell you that he was a white officer, that he has a history of racism, and that he shot a Black man without justification.”

On Oct. 3, Wolfe City police responded to a “possible fight” at a rural filling station, Texas Rangers said in a statement. There, Lucas encountered Price, who reportedly had helped break up the skirmish, according to his family’s lawyer.

Price, who first greeted Lucas — and extended his arm to shake his hand — was eventually tased several times and shot once in the torso by the police officer following a brief struggle, according to an arrest affidavit obtained by Oxygen.com.

“The officer, at some point, told Jon that he was going to be detained — Jon walked away,” Merritt added. “He did not want to be detained. He was not interested in being detained, at which point Jon was tased."

After Lucas tased Price, he opened fire, letting off four rounds.

“The taser did not take Jon to the ground but it did cause his body to tense up and convulse from the shock,” Merritt explained. “While he was tensing up and convulsing from the shock he was shot.”

One bullet struck Pierce’s upper torso. Three other bullets were found lodged in an ice freezer at the gas station, according to the Post. Price was later pronounced dead at Hunt Regional Hospital. Body camera footage of the incident hasn’t yet been made available to the public.

Texas Rangers, who arrested Lucas and have recommended murder charges, said his actions were “not objectionably unreasonable.”

“From my initial investigation, I can’t find a valid justification for the use of force,” Merritt said.
