FARMVILLE, Pitt County ? A Pitt County man has been charged with first degree murder after his estranged wife was found shot in the head, the Pitt County Sheriff's Office reported Monday.
According to deputies, officials were called to Askew Rd Lane in Farmville on Sunday evening and discovered that 34-year-old Charly Warters Vebber had been shot in the head multiple times and died.
The initial investigation, deputies say, led them to her estranged husband, 38-year-old Kevin Vebber.
Sheriff Paula Dance says Kevin Vebber did not live at the home and was dropping off their 14-year-old child when the shooting took place.
Officials say Kevin Vebber left the scene and was injured; he was found a short time later in Greenville and taken into custody without incident, officials add. The weapon has been located.
He has been charged with one count of first degree murder, and the Clerk of Court told NewsChannel 12 he is under a $4 million secured bond. He is scheduled to appear in court Sept. 30.
According to Sheriff Dance, the couple had been married for 15 to 16 years and had recently separated. She says there had been one domestic violence call in the past to the residence with no criminal actions, and there was no domestic violence protection order in place.
The investigation is ongoing.
