STOCKTON – A murder suspect connected to a shooting that occurred near Louis Park on Sept. 12 was captured without incident Tuesday by members of a U.S. Marshals Task Force, Stockton police reported.
The victim in the shooting was identified as Alberto Cabrera, 38, of Stockton, according to the San Joaquin County Coroner’s Office. Cabrera was reportedly shot in the chest during some type of disturbance allegedly involving Andrew Duty, 22, just before 9 p.m. Sept. 12 in the 1200 block of Doray Court in west Stockton, according to police.
After Cabrera was discovered, he was transported to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police reported.
Homicide detectives working the case developed information leading them to Duty. On Tuesday, task force members located Duty in the 1300 block of Perry Avenue, close to the scene of the shooting, and waited for him to drive away.
Officers followed Duty, stopped his vehicle and took him into custody without incident. He was arrested on suspicion of homicide, according to police. Jail records show Duty is being held without bail and is scheduled for arraignment at 1:30 p.m. Thursday in San Joaquin County Superior Court in Stockton.
