what's your method for saffron rice?

there used to be an afghani restaurant in town that made THE BEST saffron rice. it's long gone and i've never been able to make anything that even slightly resembles the basmati they made.

Seeing a celebrity is one thing, and it can be cool depending on who it is.  But when you say shit like, "I used to drink at the same bar as Kelly Preston," or "I sold a TV to Michael Douglas" it just sounds pathetic.  Especially when he has a new story every day.

I saw Noah Wyle once and maybe mentioned it to three people.

I use Basmati Rice (obviously) Brown sugar, cinnamon, saffron threads, small diced onions (almost minced), cloves and cardomom seeds.

Steep the Saffron in boling water.

Heat Clarified butter in a pan, saute the cinnamon and cloves for a few minutes, add the onion cook till they're a little browned. Then add the rice and stir it until it's golden, then while striring add water, sugar, and cardomom, stir in saffron and the water it was in, cover and simmer till the water is absorbed.

Salt and pepper whenever, to taste.

I don't really have measurements, I kinda wing it, but basically enough water to cover the rice completely.
