Maybe doing some research on the surgeon, and the procedure instead of asking your invisible friend for help.
When you have numbers, you don't need faith. Stop singing, it's not going to mean a speedy recovery if you ask your invisible friend nicely.
I am annoyed by this, and that's why I don't take part. My absence is less offensive than for me to be there and argue my Atheist beliefs with ALL of you. Trust me, it's better for all if I am not there.

This raises a good question that I always think about...
I always have a problem telling people about things that are wrong with them because I don't want them to be embarrassed.
Like yesterday my friend had something stuck in his teeth,
did I tell him? No, it just drove me nuts.
and yesterday this dude at the bar had his pants unzipped...
again, I said nothing...he finally realized though.

The best way to approach these types of situations is through non-verbal communication.

I have trouble too but if it looks like it would be embarrassing to them, I let them know politely.

i'll take a dog if it's a welsh corgi. but i'm definitely a cat person. i have 9. i'm well on my way to being an old cat lady. they pay attention to me when i need it, and ignore me the rest of the time. it's a good arrangement.
