Family and neighbors are concerned for a D.C. mother who hasn't been seen since Thursday.

Olga Ooro, 34 was last seen walking away from her apartment building in the 300 block of Massachusetts Avenue NW the evening of July 16, police say.

Ooro's father came to her apartment to pick up his grandson over the weekend and found the boy alone.

Police classified Ooro's case as "critical" and say she is missing under suspicious circumstances.

Some people who live and work near her apartment described her as a nice person and said they hope she is okay.

"I?m hoping and praying they are able to find her because I feel for her son. I?m about to cry. This is really scary," neighbor Michelle Boyd told News4.

Neighbors said Ooro would never leave her son alone.

Police have posted fliers throughout the neighborhood in the hopes someone will call them with information.

Ooro is described as a black woman with a dark brown complexion who is 5 feet 9 inches tall and weighs 125 pounds. She has black hair and brown eyes.

A man has been arrested and charged in the presumed death of a missing D.C. woman, 34-year-old Olga Ooro.

Darnell Sterling, 55, of Southeast, is charged with second degree murder.

D.C. police said Thursday that Ooro had just returned home from dinner with her boyfriend and her 7-year-old son when she was last seen on July 16.

"The 7-year-old was found wandering the halls on Saturday, which was two days later," Police Chief Pete Newsham said. "He told folks in the building he hadn't seen his mom since the 16th."

Police Chief Pete Newsham said Thursday that the boyfriend was cooperating with the investigation but added that "there is a history of domestic violence in this case."

Ooro's remains have not been found, according to authorities, "however, based upon the information gathered during the investigation a suspect was identified and charged accordingly," an update sent out Friday reads. "Additionally, it was determined that this offense is domestic in nature."

Victim's Father Pleads for Help Finding Daughter's Body

A man is seeking help finding the body of his daughter, who D.C. police say was killed by her boyfriend last year.

D.C. police were called to Olga Ooro’s apartment in July 2020 after neighbors found her son wandering in the hallway crying.

Investigators found evidence of Ooro and her boyfriend, Darnell Sterling, entering her apartment building in Northwest D.C. in the early morning hours of July 17.

In a court affidavit, police say Ooro’s phone last sent a signal at 1:19 a.m.

At 3:53 a.m., Sterling can be seen in surveillance video leaving the building with a large trash bag. He admitted to detectives it was him.

Sterling told police he and Ooro had an argument and that was the last time he saw her, but prosecutors say cameras caught him returning to the building and taking Ooro’s body out and loading it into his car.

A court affidavit says Sterling returned to the apartment the next day in the early morning hours.

Prosecutors say surveillance video shows Sterling struggling to pull a cart out of the elevator and then out of the building.

Sterling says he is not the man in that video.

A cadaver dog alerted on the passenger seat of Sterling’s car, prosecutors say.
