PORTLAND, Ore. ? A 37-year-old is facing assault and other charges, accused of hitting a Portland Fire & Rescue medic with a metal ball bearing shot from a slingshot early Monday morning.
According to police, Jesse Bates used a ?wrist rocket? to launch a ball bearing at the medic, which hit them in the chest.
The medic was working with Portland Police near Southwest 1st Avenue and Main Street and wore a uniform clearly marked with ?MEDIC.?
The Portland Fire & Rescue employee only suffered some bruising from the incident.
When officers arrested Bates, they said they found him with a crow bar, knife, gas mask, umbrellas, spray paint, pyrotechnics, and slingshots.
Bates was booked into the Multnomah County Jail on third-degree assault, assaulting a public safety officer, interfering with a police officer, carrying a concealed weapon, and second-degree disorderly conduct.
