Philadelphia police are asking for the public's help locating a man who they say is wanted for the murder of Dominique 'Rem'mie' Fells.

Akhenaton 'Akh' Jones, 36, of the 3900 block of Powelton Avenue, is being charged with murder, tampering with evidence, abuse of corpse and related offenses.

Fells, a 27-year-old Black trans woman, was killed on or about June 8 on the banks of the Schuylkill River.

Police described the grisly scene near Bartram's Garden. Fells had suffered injuries to her head and face, and both of her legs had been severed, seemingly by a train.

Police confirmed that Fell's death was ruled a homicide, per Philadelphia Gay News.

Dominique Rem'mie Fells was 27 years old when she was killed.

'The murder of Dominique Fells constituted yet another act of hate and violence against a member of the LGBTQ community,' Police Commissioner Danielle Outlaw said in a statement, extending the department's sympathies to Fells' family and the LGBTQ community.

At least seven Philadelphia trans women of color, Fells included, have been murdered in the last seven years.

'The murder of transgender people ' especially those of color ' is truly an epidemic, and a crisis that we cannot afford to allow to persist any further,' Philly's Office of LGBT Affairs wrote in a statement.

A GoFundMe set up by Fells' family to cover funeral expenses has raised more than $122,000 as of writing.

Anyone with information regarding Jones' whereabouts is urged to dial 911, contact the PPD Tipline (215-686-TIPS), submit an online tip or contact the Homicide Unit directly at 215-686-3334.

Arrest warrant issued in murder of Dominique Fells, Philadelphia black transgender woman killed in "heartless and cruel" slaying

An arrest warrant has been issued in the murder of Dominique "Rem'mie" Fells, a Philadelphia black transgender woman. Authorities believe 36-year-old Akhenaton Jones is responsible for Fells' murder, according to CBS Philadelphia.

Fells' family is hoping anyone who knows Jones' whereabouts will come forward. "Turn him in! This was a gruesome death," Fells' aunt, Germyce Williams, told CBS Philadelphia. "How anybody could do this to another human being is just so heartless and cruel. No mother should have to go through this, and I'm speaking for my sister-in-law."

Fells' body was found last week on the banks of the Schuylkill River. Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small told local station WPVI that the 27-year-old had suffered stab wounds and trauma to the head and face, and her body was found with both legs severed.

"We were always concerned about her. Whenever we saw her we'd say, 'Listen, be careful, make sure that you're safe, because we knew that there's a lot of hate out there for transgender,'" Fells' aunt told CBS Philadelphia. "We accepted her as who she identified as and we just wanted the best for her," she added.

Fells is believed to be the 13th transgender or gender non-conforming murder victim in the U.S. this year, according to the Human Rights Campaign. The advocacy group said it's possible other cases have gone unreported. Her slaying has renewed calls from advocacy groups for steps to end violence against transgender people.

Fells will be buried Thursday, according to her family. A GoFundMe to cover the funeral costs has surpassed $120,000.

Police say a suspect has been arrested for the murder of 27-year-old Dominique Rem’mie Fells, a transgender woman whose dismembered body was discovered on the banks of the Schuylkill River in June. Authorities say Akhenaton Jones was arrested in Los Angeles and is awaiting extradition.

An arrest warrant for Jones was issued in mid-June after police sources say dismembered legs, dry blood stains, trash bags and a knife with blood on it were found throughout a home on the 3900 block of Powelton Avenue. Sources also say the home had a strong odor of decomposition.

Friend of transgender York native charged with her death, Philadelphia Police say

The last hours of York native Dominique "Rem'mie" Fells' life reportedly included a long, drug-fueled party in Philadelphia with her friend and ended with him fatally stabbing her, police say.

The dismembered torso of Fells, 27, who graduated from Central York High School, was found June 8 by a fisherman along the Schuylkill River Trail. Her legs were found about 50 feet away, encased in green plastic wrap, documents state.

Philadelphia Police launched an investigation, and later that month, identified Akhenaton T. Jones, 36, of Philadelphia, as the suspect.

One witness referred to Fells as a "female friend" of Jones', while a second witness said Jones referred to Fells as his "girlfriend," documents state.

But, at some point during the party, Jones told the two witnesses he wanted to be alone with Fells. The witnesses left, but one returned later and "walked by a second floor bedroom and observed the Transgender female lying face down on a bed looking lifeless," documents state.

Around the same time Jones was determined to be a suspect, police searched his home, finding blood-stained evidence, including part of a mattress and green plastic wrap, which matched that used to cover Fells' legs, according to documents.

In November, police stated Jones had been arrested in Los Angeles. He arrived in Philadelphia on Feb. 4 and is scheduled for a preliminary hearing Feb. 22, according to online court dockets.

After picking up Fells, the witness drove all three back to their home on Brandywine Street in the city, "where they continued to hang out and party with crack cocaine, marijuana and alcohol," documents state.

As night turned to morning of the next day, June 6, the party was moved to Jones' home on Powelton Avenue in the city. A second witness joined the party and at some point, Jones told the two witnesses "he wanted to be alone with the female," according to documents.

Jones then took Fells to a bedroom on the second floor, while the witnesses remained in the living room, continuing to get high on crack cocaine. Once the crack ran out, the first witness left to get more money, while the second witness moved to the third floor, documents state.

Returning to Jones' home, the first witness "felt something was very wrong" after spotting Fells' body and left without talking with Jones, documents state.

About 10-15 minutes later, Jones showed up at the witness' home and asked if he "saw something that made him sick inside of Jones' house." The witness denied this and told Jones to leave, according to documents.

The second witness who joined the party at Jones' home, said Jones told him to leave the floor "so that Jones could be alone with his transgender girlfriend."

The witness went to the third floor and "While waiting, Witness #2 heard some tussling in the house," documents state.

Not long after that, the witness left without seeing Fells' body, according to documents.

Philadelphia Police's homicide division, with help from the department's SWAT team, executed a search warrant at Jones' home. On the second floor, they found several pieces of evidence, including two PPE safety suits, one of which was bloodstained.

A hand saw, folding knife and piece of a mattress were also bloodstained. Police also found the green plastic wrap, documents state.
