SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) ? Syracuse Police are investigating a Saturday night shooting that happened at a large party on the city?s Westside involving nine victims, including a 17-year-old who was left in critical condition.

Officers recollect the shooting as the most victims in a single shooting in the city?s history.

The party in a parking lot behind WCNY Studios near the intersection of Wyoming Street and Marcellus was attended by hundreds according to Syracuse Police Chief Kenton Buckner.

All nine victims were sent to the hospital with various injuries although the most seriously hurt was also the youngest: a 17-year-old male.

Just got to West Street, the other side of the crime scene, where this party took place. Police say with ?a few hundred people.? You can see the tents still set up and trash all over the parking lot.

Man, age 17 (critical, shot in the head)
Woman, age 18 (shot in the leg)
Woman, age 19 (shot in the leg)
Woman, age 20 (shot in the leg)
Man, age 22 (shot in the leg)
Man, age 23 (shot in the groin and leg)
Man, age 29 (shot in the neck)
Woman, age 37 (shot in the shoulder)
Woman, age 53 (shot in the back)

Syracuse Police report, when officers arrived, that people were running away and yelling.

Buckner said the incident was first called in as a stolen car complaint, and when officers arrived people said there was a person shooting. Buckner said his officers did not hear gunfire while they were at the scene.

Initially, neighbors were asked to stay inside as their homes as police secured the area. As of Sunday morning, at least a block surrounding the scene was still closed off to traffic, and well over a dozen evidence markers were on the ground.

At this time there is no information about possible suspects or a motive in the case.

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) — Authorities in central New York say nine people were shot at a nighttime “celebration."

Syracuse police say a 17-year-old boy is in critical condition with a gunshot wound to the head and eight others were expected to survive.

No was immediately taken into custody and the investigation was in its early stages.

The shooting took place at a celebration centralized in a parking lot near downtown Syracuse, but the police chief said shots could have been fired at multiple locations in the area.

The nature of the celebration wasn't immediately known.

Syracuse's mayor says the event likely didn't have a permit.

Apparently it was reported as a party in the city prior to the shooting.

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — Onondaga County District Attorney Bill Fitzpatrick now says forensic evidence and eyewitness accounts suggest there were multiple shooters Saturday night where nine people were shot at a party.

The Syracuse Police Department is still working through the details as they sift through evidence from Saturday night’s shooting that happened in the back parking lot of the WCNY building on the west side.

At last check, a 17-year-old male was still fighting for his life with severe injuries. The other victims ranging in age from 18 to 53 years old are expected to survive, said Syracuse Police Chief Kenton Buckner on Saturday night.

According to a message to residents from Keith Tyson, Director of Operations for the Near West Side Initiative, a Black Lives Matter festival was planned in the Performance Parking Lot from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m.

The party involved a few hundred people near the corner of Marcellus and Wyoming streets on Saturday night when police got a report of a stolen vehicle in the area. When officers got to the scene, they were met by those people running and screaming. Just before officers arrived, nine people had been shot. Since police couldn’t find a shooter or shooters, they searched for those victims to get them medical attention.

“We are in the obvious early stages of the investigation as we canvass the area, attempting to collect witnesses, footage that you have. We certainly need any help from our community. If you have something that would be able to aid us in this investigation, we would ask that you come forward,” Buckner said.

Police say the fact that there were hundreds of people at the party can both hinder and help the investigation, but any kind of evidence you have, send it in to police. You can reach them at (315) 442-5222.
