Man wears KKK hood while grocery shopping in California

    https://nypost.com/2020/05/04/man-we...in-california/

A day after San Diego residents were required to wear face coverings in public, a man went grocery shopping while wearing a Ku Klux Klan hood, according to a report.

The hooded creep was seen roaming the aisles of a Von supermarket in the San Diego County city of Santee on Saturday, the San Diego Union-Tribune reported.

Store clerks repeatedly asked the man to remove the hood or leave the premises.

A supervisor approached him at the checkout line and asked him again to take off the hood or leave, company spokeswoman Melissa Hill told the newspaper.

The man finally removed the hood, bought his items and left.

'At Vons, fostering an environment of courtesy, dignity and respect is one of our highest priorities, and we work hard to hold everyone in our stores to these standards, including customers,' Hill said.

'San Diego is #NoPlaceForHate,' Tammy Gillies, regional director of the Anti-Defamation League in San Diego, said on Twitter.

Santee Mayor John Minto and residents said on social media that the man's actions did not represent the values of the city of almost 60,000 residents.

'Many thanks to all who stepped forward to curtail this sad reminder of intolerance,' Minto said. 'Santee, its leaders and I will not tolerate such behavior.'

The city has tried over the years to overcome a history of racially motivated incidents that led to nicknames such as 'Klantee' and 'Santucky.'

'So troublesome in so many ways this is still happening in Santee at Vons,' resident Tiam Tellez wrote on Facebook. 'Disgusting!'

County Supervisor Dianne Jacobs also condemned the shopper's actions.

'The images I've seen are abhorrent,' she said in a statement. 'This blatant racism has no place in Santee or any part of San Diego County. It is not who we are. It is not what we stand for and can't be tolerated.'

Hill, the store's rep, said: 'This was a disturbing incident for our associates and customers, and we are reviewing with our team how to best handle such inappropriate situations in the future.'

Somebody should have posted a photo of him after he removed the hood. I'd want to know if I lived in that neighborhood.

California man who went shopping in KKK hood won’t be charged

    https://nypost.com/2020/05/11/califo...nt-be-charged/

The California man who went grocery shopping wearing a Ku Klux Klan hood last week said he didn’t mean to make “a racial statement” and won’t be facing charges, police said Monday.

The hooded creep was spotted roaming the aisles of a Vons supermarket in Santee on May 2, a day after San Diego residents were required to wear face coverings in public amid the coronavirus pandemic.

“The man expressed frustration with the coronavirus and having people tell him what he can and cannot do,” the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department said in a statement to NBC News.

“He said that wearing the hood was not intended to be a racial statement. In summary, he said, ‘It was a mask and it was stupid.'”

The man’s getup drew outrage on social media and from officials in the city of almost 60,000 residents.

But the US attorney’s office and the San Diego County District Attorney’s Office investigated and didn’t find enough evidence to charge the man, who wasn’t identified by cops.

“This incident should serve as a reminder for anyone contemplating wearing or displaying items so closely associated with hate and human suffering that our society does not hold in high regard those who do so,” the sheriff’s department said in the statement.

“Santee is a city of families, and the community is rightfully disgusted at this man’s despicable behavior,” it added. “The Sheriff’s Department thoroughly investigates incidents such as these and will hold those who violate the law accountable.”

Colorado cops looking for man who wore KKK hood in market

    https://nypost.com/2020/05/15/colora...grocery-store/

Colorado cops are searching for a man who wore a Ku Klux Klan hood to go grocery shopping — the second time this month that someone in the US has pulled the hateful stunt.

The man walked into the City Market in Dillon on Thursday and proceeded to shop until he was asked to leave, which he refused to do. An employee at the store then called the cops, the Summit Daily News reports.

The man fled before officers arrived, but cops are working to identify him and his vehicle using surveillance footage, the newspaper reports.

“Right now, they’re trying to identify him, contact him and take it from there,” a spokeswoman for the grocery store told the newspaper. “Obviously, we take this kind of action very seriously.”

Video of the incident obtained by KUSA shows the man apparently chatting it up with other customers while holding a basket and a container of milk. He stands near three other shoppers before one of them apparently said something about his hood, prompting him to shrug his shoulders and walk away.

The man then argued with customers and workers who approached him until he left the store. In a statement to the station, the grocery chain said it values “diversity and inclusion,” as well as respect for every customer.

“We ask our customers to respect these values as well when in our stores,” the statement read. “Our store leaders are empowered to swiftly and respectfully address anyone who disregards these values, which includes blatant symbols of hate and intolerance.”

Another man was spotted wearing a KKK hood while buying groceries earlier this month in Santee, California. He ultimately took off the hood while shopping May 4 at a Von supermarket after being asked several times by clerks and a supervisor.
