Porsche Driver Flees Scene After 4 Police Officers Are Killed By A Truck While Issuing Him Speeding Fines (VIC, Australia)

No ID's on anyone involved yet so will have to update the title later

This Porsche driver is sooooo fucked. Initially anger was directed at the truck driver, but overnight it's emerged that the Porsche driver fled the scene after the officers were hit, then people started sharing footage of a very similar porsche speeding on the same highway - it was uploaded to fb last month - so it seemed this wasn't a stolen car but a wealthy arsehole who habitually drives at ridiculously high speeds.

Police were still searching on Thursday morning for the driver of a Porsche who fled the scene of the accident that killed four Victoria police officers in Melbourne.

The crash happened near the Chandler Highway at Kew about 5.40pm on Wednesday and is the biggest loss of police officer life in Victoria?s history.

It?s understood the Eastern Freeway will remain closed throughout Thursday?s morning peak hour as investigations continue.

The Victoria police commissioner, Graham Ashton, said on Wednesday evening two senior constables and two constables were killed. One senior female officer was killed, along with three male officers. One was relatively new to the force, Ashton said.

He said two officers intercepted a Porsche 911 that was speeding on the freeway, and after pulling over the vehicle they decided to impound it. Shortly after two other officers were called to assist at the scene, a large refrigerated truck for a poultry company drove into the four police officers.

The driver of the Porsche fled the scene on foot, Ashton said, and he urged the driver to get in contact with the police.

?I?d strongly suggest he gets himself down to the nearest police station to present himself to assist with these inquiries,? the chief commissioner said.

A male truck driver was taken to hospital under police guard with non-life-threatening injuries. Ashton said he had a medical episode at the scene, and will be tested for the presence of drugs and alcohol as part of the inquiry. It was unclear whether he experienced the episode before or after the accident or exactly what unfolded.

?We don?t know at this stage what has caused him to drive that truck into our police members,? Ashton said. A crime scene has been established and the incident is being investigated by the homicide squad and the major collision investigation unit.

The freeway?s lanes were closed in both directions between Bulleen Road and the Chandler Highway on Wednesday night, with drivers told to find an alternative route.

Ashton said it was a ?very tragic night? for Victoria police, and he was not aware of any other incident where four officers were killed at once.

?It?s a reminder for the dangers of the work police do every day,? he said.

Tributes flooded social Wednesday night, including from prime minister Scott Morrison.

?Awful, heart-breaking news that four police officers have been killed while on duty in Melbourne tonight. My deepest sympathies go out to their families, fellow officers and friends at this terrible time,? he said on Twitter.

Victorian police minister Lisa Neville addressed media overnight.

?It is a dangerous job as a police officer but we still want every police officer to come home safely to their families at night. That didn?t happen this evening for four individuals and their families. They?re heroes. They are heroes. They?re Victorian heroes tonight,? she said.

The premier, Daniel Andrews, released a statement saying the officers were ?heroes?, whose death would be a cause of sorrow for all Victorians

?Four families? hearts are breaking. Our hearts are breaking with them,? Andrews said.

?We grieve alongside them ? just as we grieve with every member of Victoria Police and every member of our emergency services family.?

The state police union released a statement saying it was ?shocked and immensely saddened by the deaths of four of our dedicated members, who were killed while protecting the community on the Eastern Freeway this afternoon?.

?We are providing immediate and ongoing support to the colleagues and families of those members.

?This is a brutally sad reminder of the danger police face in the course of their service, every minute of every shift. We mourn their loss, we grieve with their families and colleagues and we will never forget them.?

Police Association Victoria secretary Wayne Gatt said the deaths would ?shock police in stations across Victoria?.

?These police officers were doing something that we do 10 times, 20 times, 30 times a shift ? intercepting a motor vehicle on the side of the road, this is the bread and butter of policing,? he told reporters.

?This isn?t stuff that you go to do and expect to be killed doing. But each and every time a police officer does that for the next little while, they?ll have this in the back of their minds, there?s no doubt.?

Police Minister Lisa Neville said the tragedy hurts the whole community, encouraging people to extend their support to the force at this time.

In the last hour it's emerged that before fleeing, the porsche driver took "graphic" pix at the accident scene & uploaded them to fb, so now people really want his fucking blood.

Melbourne truck crash: Four officers dead, cops hunting runaway Porsche driver
Detectives are hunting a Porsche driver who fled the scene of a horrific crash that killed four police officers in Melbourne.
The Porsche driver who allegedly fled the scene after four police officers were killed in a horror freeway crash in Melbourne put photos on Facebook of the ?graphic? crash scene.

Speaking to reporters this morning, Victorian Police Commissioner Graham Ashton said the Porsche driver, who had been pulled over by officers before 5pm last night for speeding, was handing himself into police this morning.

Mr Ashton said police were in contact with Facebook after the Porsche driver, a 41-year-old man with an extensive criminal history, put photos of the tragic scene online.

?We are pursuing with Facebook that there has been some images placed on Facebook that appear to have been taken by this individual at the scene, before he has left the scene,? Mr Ashton said.

?And some of those photographs were circulating last night online. So, I would ask if anyone is finding photographs online, not to further circulate them. In fact we are talking to Facebook this morning about removing those images from Facebook.?

Mr Ashton said the man?s act was ?disgusting? and said the photos were ?quite graphic?.

?To leave the scene is a very, very low act in my view,? he said.

?If I wasn?t wearing this uniform as Chief Commissioner I?d be using far more colourful language than this...but I need to be more dignified.?

Two police officers intercepted the man?s 911 Porsche, allegedly travelling at more than 140km/h, on Melbourne?s Eastern Freeway last night.

Police also did an oral fluid test at the scene that returned a positive result for some type of drug, Mr Ashton said.

Those two officers requested back-up and when all four were standing in the emergency lane of the freeway, making the decision to impound the speeding car, the tragic smash occurred.

?A large truck, a refrigerated truck, has then driven into these four police officers?, Mr Ashton said in an emotional press conference last night.

?The truck has also made considerable contact with the Porsche.

?The driver of the Porsche we don't believe was injured but has taken it upon himself to flee the scene on foot.?

The truck?s impact caused carnage at the scene with the highway patrol car being spun into the nature strip in the middle of the Eastern Freeway and the Porsche crushed under the semi-trailer.

The freeway is closed in both directions and remains an active crime scene however police hope to open it later today.

Mr Ashton said detectives had managed to collect footage from the four officers? body-worn cameras.

Tributes and obituaries for the four officers would come later today, he said, after family had been properly informed of their deaths.

?We will be able to piece together 99 per cent of this...and get a very good picture of exactly what happened,? he said.

A number of good samaritans, including an off-duty paramedic and off-duty doctor, stopped at the scene and tried to render first aid but the four officers were unable to be saved.

Mr Ashton confirmed this morning the truck driver had suffered some sort of medical episode and had ?blacked out? after the crash.

?It's not believed he has suffered injury in the accident but has had some sort of medical episode at the scene and has been taken to hospital for medical treatment. We intend him to be there under police guard for some time.?

A warrant was executed on the truck driver?s Cranbourne home early this morning.

?What was found at those premises is still under investigation,? Mr Ashton said.

The death of the four officers is the single deadliest day for Victoria Police in history.

The four who died include a female senior constable, a male senior constable and two male constables, one of whom had only recently joined the force.

Mr Ashton said this morning their deaths had resonated throughout the state?s entire force and reminded Victorians to keep to the 40km/h speed limit when emergency services have their flashing lights on.

?No doubt police out today will be looking well over their shoulders when they make those stops,? he said.

Premier Daniel Andrews issued a message of support to the families of the four officers late last night.

?Tonight, four police officers lost their lives in the line of duty. And tonight, somewhere in our city, four families? hearts are breaking,? he said.

?Our hearts are breaking with them. But one thing is already clear: Though we may not yet know their names ? we will always call them heroes,? he said.

The Melbourne Porsche driver, accused of taking photos of a graphic crash where four police officers had been killed, has been identified.

Melbourne truck crash: Four officers dead, cops arrest runaway Porsche driver
The Porsche driver accused of fleeing the scene of an horrific crash that left four Victorian police officers dead has been identified as a Melbourne mortgage broker.

Richard Pusey, 41, attended West Melbourne Police Station this morning with a lawyer after Victoria Police Commissioner Graham Ashton ?strongly suggested he gets himself down to the nearest police station to present himself to assist with these inquiries?.

Pusey has spent the morning with homicide detectives to help them piece together what happened last night. He is also potentially facing charges for fleeing the scene of an accident, an indictable offence.

Pusey was driving his 2016 Porsche 911 Coupe down Melbourne?s Eastern Freeway just before 5pm last night when he was pulled over for allegedly hitting speeds of 140km/h.

A further oral fluid test on Pusey found the 41-year-old had allegedly tested positive for drugs.

The decision was made by officers to impound Pusey?s car, leading to the first two officers to call for back-up.

As the four officers stood in the emergency lane to organise the impound, police said a refrigerator truck veered into the lane, hitting the group and killing them.

The four police officers tragically killed have since been identified as Leading Senior Constable Lynette Taylor, Constable Glen Humphris, Senior Constable Kevin King and Constable Josh Prestney.

Police allege Pusey took photos of the graphic crime scene before fleeing on foot down the freeway and sharing the pictures with friends on social media.

Victoria Police Commissioner Graham Ashton said Pusey?s behaviour was ?disgusting? and said the photos were ?quite graphic?.

?To leave the scene is a very, very low act in my view,? he said.

A number of good Samaritans, including an off-duty doctor, stopped to try and give first aid to the four police officers but they were unable to be saved.

Pusey, who runs Switch Now Home Loans, is an avid social media user and often posts about his expensive sports car online.

He was also named as one of the top 100 brokers by Mortgage Profession Australia in 2013.

Pusey had recently made more than a million dollars after selling an inner-city Melbourne property in September. He had bought the Guildford Lane property for $2.8 million in 2017.

The 41-year-old has left hundreds of TripAdvisor reviews, including ones where he boasted about ?racing? his Porsche.

?When I?m not racing my Porsche or chasing the Sky Bus for its free Wi-Fi I like to get up and dance,? Pusey wrote on a November 2018 review of a Melbourne helicopter company.
?I?ve found these folks are particularly good at such things and will return one day when my heads not already near the clouds.?

A month earlier, Pusey reviewed Melbourne Airport?s SkyBus company.

?I like to drive behind the bus in my Porsche because it doesn?t have Wi-Fi,? he wrote.

?I set the cruise control so as to allow me to social network and all that cool new age type stuff that?s all the rage. Me and my Porsche enjoy the day out doing this activity.?

Pusey?s Porsche, which is registered in Queensland, was also seen in recent dashcam footage speeding down the same freeway a month ago.

There is no suggestion Pusey was driving however it is the same car.

In the footage, the driver, travelling at 100km/h, can be heard saying ?what a f**king idiot? when the Porsche flies past him.

Pusey was also featured on Nine?s A Current Affair in 2016 where he was accused of ripping off tradesmen and abusing their families over the disputes.

A promo clip from the program shows Pusey reportedly screaming at one of the tradesmen?s wives who had just returned from hospital after undergoing cancer treatment.

?Get some more f**king cancer you stupid f**king b***h,? he was filmed yelling through a screen door.

In the A Current Affair promo the program suggests he may be ?Australia?s nastiest customer?.

    ? Reid Butler (@reid_butler9) April 23, 2020

?He hires you to work on his place, then finds fault with everything and doesn?t pay. He?ll even abuse your sick wife for good measure,? the program claimed.

Commissioner Ashton said earlier today the truck driver had suffered some sort of medical episode and had ?blacked out? after the crash.

Mr Ashton said.

i'm wondering if the Porsche driver can face any felony charges over the death. For a very basic example, if you were waiting outside a grocery store to take your friend home and he robs the place and kills the cashier. I think the friend can also be charged with murder. In Australia, is there something similar? Yes, the driver couldn't have anticipated what would happen but he knew that his actions were dangerous and may put others at risk. Can he be charged with the deaths?

Ok, he didn't record it himself, it was on the officer's bodycam, but this guy's still a fucking psychopath.

He's also denying that he was the one who uploaded pix. I guess he's going to try to claim that someone else as fucked up as him just happened to pull up at the scene, snap pix, & disappear before emergency services arrived, all without a single witness noticing them.

Porsche driver Richard Pusey recorded complaining about his damaged car to dying police officer, court hears
By court reporter Karen Percy and staff

The Porsche driver who allegedly fled the scene of a freeway crash which killed four police officers was filmed heaping abuse on one of the victims and complaining about the damage to his car, a court has heard.

    Key points:
Porsche driver Richard Pusey, 41, has been charged with failing to assist at the scene of the crash

He has also been charged with reckless conduct endangering life, speeding and failing to remain after a drug test

Police believe they may have to wait several days before interviewing the driver of the truck that killed the officers

Leading Senior Constable Lynette Taylor, Constable Glen Humphris, Senior Constable Kevin King and Constable Josh Prestney were killed in the crash on the Eastern Freeway in Kew.

The four officers were standing in the emergency lane when the truck hit them as they prepared to impound the Porsche 911 being driven by 41-year-old Melbourne mortgage broker Richard Pusey.

Mr Pusey was allegedly travelling at 140 kilometres per hour while under the influence of methylamphetamine and cannabis before he was pulled over.

He made a brief appearance in Melbourne Magistrates' Court this morning charged with speeding, failing to assist at a crash scene and drug offences.

The court heard Pusey videoed the crash scene before fleeing.

The court was told there was no evidence he posted the material on social media.

"All I wanted to do was go home and eat my sushi, you've f***ed my f***ing car," Leading Senior Constable Taylor's body camera is alleged to have recorded Mr Pusey saying to her, before fleeing the scene.

She was pinned under the truck at the time.

Accused contacted officers the night of the crash, court told

Senior Constable Aaron Price told the court Mr Pusey had two phones on him at the time, but only surrendered one to police, which had been restored to factory settings.

In the hours after the crash, Mr Pusey contacted two police officers he knew ? one of them at the Australian Federal Police, the other with Victoria Police.

He sent an email to one of the officers telling the officer what had happened before going to sleep, the court was told.

Yesterday morning he took a lawyer to the City West police station at Spencer Street and was interviewed by police.

Senior Constable Price acknowledged his fallen colleagues when he gave a brief summary of the case to the court, paying respects to them and their families.

Mr Pusey has been remanded in custody and is expected to reappear in July.

Police may wait 'number of days' to interview truck driver

Police are still waiting to interview the driver of the refrigerated truck, which Chief Commissioner Graham Ashton said appeared to have moved from the right-most lane of the freeway to the emergency lane shortly before it hit the officers while travelling at 100kph.

Deputy Commissioner Shane Patton said the driver of the truck that hit the officers was still in hospital after suffering a medical episode and may not be interviewed by investigators for days.

"He's not fit to be interviewed. It may be a number of days. We have taken blood from him and we're working through all our forensic examination of the scene, as well as examination of the vehicles involved," he told 7.30.

Chief Commissioner Ashton said on Thursday officers had searched the truck driver's Cranbourne home in the hours after the crash and "what was found at that premises is still the subject of ongoing investigation".

Victoria's Parliament House was among the buildings in the CBD illuminated in blue to honour the officers.(ABC News: Richard Willingham)

Last night, Melbourne landmarks were illuminated in blue in tribute to the two senior constables and two newly graduated constables killed in the crash.

Physical-distancing measures in place due to the coronavirus pandemic means no public vigil is possible to mark what is the biggest loss of officer lives in a single incident in Victoria Police's history.

Flinders Street Station in the heart of Melbourne's CBD was among those to turn blue.(ABC News: Gemma Hall)

Victoria Police Legacy CEO Lex de Man said the public's desire to pay tribute highlighted the "devastation" being felt in Melbourne.

"Last night, the outpouring of support and comfort that Victorians showed by lighting up buildings in blue and putting blue ribbons on their gates and blue lights around their houses, that's some comfort for the families," he said.

The organisation, which provides support to families of fallen Victoria Police officers, has set up a remembrance fund for the four officers killed in the crash.

Last night, Police and Emergency Services Minister Lisa Neville said the blue landmarks would "honour these four heroes".

"This devastating incident reminds us once again of your unfaltering bravery and selflessness ? I encourage everyone to pay their respects and reflect on all our police do for the community," she said.

"This is an unimaginable tragedy and a senseless loss of lives. Josh and Glen were relatively new to the force, and Lynette and Kevin had served the community for many years ? all had dedicated their lives to keeping us safe."

Eastern Freeway Porsche driver Richard Pusey charged with multiple offences following late-night disturbance

    By Carly Waters
    5:01pm Dec 28, 2020

Melbourne man Richard Pusey has been charged with a raft of offences following a three-hour standoff with police at his house last night.

Police this afternoon confirmed they had charged the 42-year-old with threatening to kill, false imprisonment, conduct endangering a person, common law assault, contravening a conduct condition of bail, committing an indictable offence while on bail, and using a phone to harass.

He will appear at Melbourne Magistrates' Court this afternoon.

Mr Pusey is also still facing charges in relation to the Eastern Freeway crash that killed four officers in April.

Police were called to a property in Fitzroy at 11.30pm yesterday, following reports of people yelling and windows being smashed inside.

The incident ended with specialist police smashing into the property and dragging Mr Pusey from the roof.

Police had tried to contact Mr Pusey but after no response, the Critical Incident Response Team forced entry to the home, where they found the 42-year-old on the roof.

As part of Mr Pusey's original bail conditions, he is required to answer the door to police at any time, but officers say when they arrived, he refused to let them in.

After negotiations, Mr Pusey was taken to hospital for a mental health assessment.

There was a woman at the property at the time.

She was uninjured and is assisting police with inquiries.

Detectives today searched the home and seized a number of bags of evidence before it was boarded up.

Richard Pusey has been charged with multiple offences following an incident at his home. (Nine)

Police are continuing to investigate the incident and whether or not Mr Pusey breached any of the conditions attached to his bail, which was granted in October.

Mr Pusey had been committed to stand trial on driving charges and one count of outraging public decency over allegations he used his mobile phone to film the aftermath of the Eastern Freeway crash which claimed the lives of four police officers.

Mr Pusey had been pulled over for allegedly speeding when a truck swerved into the emergency lane, killing the officers on April 22.

Leading Senior Constable Lynette Taylor, Senior Constable Kevin King and Constables Glen Humphris and Josh Prestney all died in the incident.

The driver of the truck that ploughed into the police officers, Mohinder Singh, pleaded guilty to culpable driving earlier this month.

Mr Pusey's bail was extended two weeks before Christmas and his next court date is scheduled for February.

Eastern Freeway Porsche driver Richard Pusey pleads guilty to three charges
    By court reporter Danny Tran
Posted Yesterday at 9:20am, updated Yesterday at 4:11pm

Richard Pusey, the Porsche driver who swore as he filmed the final moments of a police officer who died on Melbourne's Eastern Freeway, has pleaded guilty.

    Key points:

Richard Pusey pleaded guilty to conduct endangering serious injury, drug possession and outraging public decency

The guilty pleas follow months of negotiations with prosecutors

A truck driver previously pleaded guilty to charges related to the crash that killed the four officers

Pusey today appeared in the County Court where he accepted responsibility for his actions almost a year after the horror smash that left four police officers dead, in April 2020.

After months of negotiations with prosecutors, Pusey has now pleaded guilty to reckless conduct endangering serious injury and possessing a drug of dependence.

As part of the deal, he has also pleaded guilty to the controversial charge of outraging public decency, which his legal team initially argued did not exist.

The 42-year-old now accepts that he breached public decency standards by using his phone to create recordings of the dead and dying police officers, while saying: "There you go, amazing, absolutely amazing. All I wanted to do was go home and have some sushi and now you f***ed my f***ing car."

Four police officers who were killed in a highway crash in Melbourne.

Pusey today appeared from the Melbourne Remand Centre and before the hearing got underway, took a deep breath.

    "Guilty," he said, three times.

Today's development means an end to the tragic story is now in sight.

Had Pusey not pleaded guilty, his trial would have been scheduled for late 2022 because of the immense pressure the coronavirus has put on Victoria's justice system.

His legal team will now argue that Pusey should be given a sentence that would allow him to be released by the end of the month, but it is unclear how this would work as he is also facing other court matters.

His defence barrister, Dermot Dann QC, today said Pusey's plea was valuable.

"I know there are different views of the legal and factual validity of that charge of outraging public decency, but on one view of the world there is a dubious legal, factual validity of that charge," Mr Dann said.

"He should be given very significant credit for taking the step that he has, particularly in circumstances where without his efforts to, or decision, to resolve the matter ? the potential for this matter to drag on for years was very much apparent."

County Court Judge Trevor Wraight said Pusey's plea carried weight.

"Mr Pusey has facilitated the course of justice by pleading guilty in circumstances where there was a basis to argue," the judge said.

"These sorts of legal arguments can go on for years. So I acknowledge that."

Pusey is also facing a lower level speeding charge as part of the deal, but that matter is yet to reach the County Court, and he is yet to formally enter a plea.

Discussions behind the scenes over guilty pleas

In April last year, Pusey was pulled over by Leading Senior Constable Lynette Taylor and First Constable Glen Humphris for allegedly driving his Porsche at 149 kilometres per hour on the Eastern Freeway.

Two other officers ? Senior Constable Kevin King and Constable Joshua Prestney ? arrived at the scene and were standing in an emergency lane when a truck veered into the lane, killing all four officers.

It was the single biggest loss of life in the force's history, and an incident that plunged Victoria into mourning.

The truck's driver, Mohinder Singh, was charged over the officers' deaths and has since pleaded guilty. He will face a pre-sentence hearing next week.

The ABC can now reveal the discussions behind the shift in Pusey's position, which were suppressed, after he initially vowed to clear his name.

During a hearing in the middle of Victoria's snap five-day lockdown last month, Pusey indicated he would plead guilty to the charge of outraging public decency in order to "avoid the prospect of this matter dragging well into next year."

"He's instructed me to indicate that he is willing to plead guilty to that charge in an effort to resolve this matter," his barrister, Mr Dann, said during that hearing.

"I think there's significant utilitarian benefit in the plea of guilty to that charge ... this case, if not resolved, would go on for a very long time," Judge Wraight said.

"I'll be submitting that he deserves very significant credit for that plea for that charge in particular," Mr Dann said.

But a delicate situation has emerged in the County Court because of the unusual charge of outraging public decency.

Usually, victims are given an opportunity to make a statement about how their lives were touched by a crime before an accused is sentenced.

But while the dead and dying police officers were the subject of Pusey's graphic video, the victim of the charge of outraging public decency is technically Victoria's "public".

In the same hearing during lockdown, Judge Wraight said the nature of the video would be addressed during Pusey's plea hearing and in his sentencing remarks.

"While I understand the families of the victims have an interest in the charge, I'm not convinced that they would be able to prepare victim impact statements," the judge said.

"My current thinking is that there would not be capacity for the families of the police officers to provide victim impact statements under the definition in relation to this particular charge."

Pusey will face a pre-sentence hearing at the end of March.

Australia's justice system is so lax. I wouldn't be surprised if he gets out in a week and gets a public apology.
