Unger was last seen at her residence in a remote area on south Turkey Run Road in St. Clair, Missouri between 6:30 and 8:30 a.m. on April 19, 2010. Her husband stated she was paranoid and thought demons were out to get her, and she told him they had to get out of the house and she wanted to go to their son's home in Jefferson County, Missouri.

She walked into the woods behind her home and disappeared. Her husband followed her for some distance before turning back and calling 911.

Unger has never been heard from again. Authorities stated she hadn't taken her medication for several days before her disappearance and may be disoriented and not know where she is.

Unger and her husband had been married for 43 years prior to her disappearance. He stated they enjoyed camping and going to church. Unger's husband described her as very religious and a devoted housewife and mother to their two sons. He said she was diagnosed with schizophrenia in 2008 after she had a mental breakdown, and she developed heart problems as a side effect of her anti-psychotic medications. Her case remains unsolved.

Authorities in Franklin County are working to identify human remains discovered earlier this month in St. Clair, Sheriff Steve Pelton said in a statement Monday.

The remains were found on the 600 block of Turkey Run Road the morning of March 22, Pelton said.

Authorities believe the remains might be those of a person who went missing in 2010, and had a last known address about a quarter-mile from where the remains were found.

He said authorities were trying to positively identify the remains using the missing person's dental records and DNA from the remains, and was not sure how long it would take to confirm the identity.
