When I was a child, Mom would load us up in the car in the springtime and take us out to the countryside. We'd park near a pasture and fill paper grocery bags with fresh wild dandelion. It had to be picked when they were still in bud, if the yellow flower opened, they were too old and bitter. We'd bring the dandelion home and for a week, Mom would make dandelion salad (just olive oil, wine vinegar, salt and pepper). Heaven in a pesky little weed, would love to taste them again. Farm-grown isn't the same.

Mom is 89 now, and we were talking about it a month or so ago. A week or so later, she told me she planted a container of wild dandelions from puffballs retrieved from her neighbors yard, and they were growing like, well.... like weeds!

She enjoyed her first dandelion salad in decades yesterday. Love that woman.

How is your Mom doing with your Dad's recent passing?

I remember my Grandmother talking about dandelion salad.

Mom is doing great, RBW, thanks for asking. She is finally able to do the things she couldn't do while she was Dad's full-time caregiver for the past few years. She's planted a garden, she's back into crafting, sewed masks for the whole neighborhood, cleaned out and replanted her flower beds. She's like a tornado, keeping herself busy.

Only before they bloom. After the yellow flower opens they are very bitter. But when those flowers are just little buds in the middle of the weed? Amazingly tender and delicious.

I've only ever had salad and wine. The salad was great, the wine was meh.

Great to hear that your Mom is busy. Dandelion green's can basically be substituted wherever you'd use spinach. I don't say it tastes all that good, but some people really like it. As you say, the younger the better.

Do they still make the candy bar Cherry Mash? I used to like eating those as a kid, but I haven't seen one in years.

Did someone say they missed Dunkaroos? If so, Aldi is selling them again.

    Fair food
I never liked giant turkey legs. They always looked disgusting to me, but I loved buying funnel cake, grilled corn on the cob, caramel apples, cotton candy, etc.
I know you can buy it in stores and fast food places, but it's not the same.

I have heard several people say they are awesome...I have never had one, but I knew someone was talking about missing them. Do you have Aldi's in your area?

Speaking of caramel apples....I had a new drink at a coffee place yesterday, it was a caramel apple smoothie. Green apple with caramel in it...yum!

No. We have nothing good here.

I don't know if I'd call Aldi's "good." It's not a place to do your everyday shopping because they never have the same thing twice. Other than a few basics like milk/bread/eggs, I don't think they have regularly replenished stock. It seems the store is mainly stocked with one-off sale items in bulk. Lots of good stuff, but that great jar of puttanesca sauce you bought there? Good luck finding it again.

Yeah, Aldi's is odd. I have only ever been in there twice. Last time I went they don't take credit cards and I don't use real cash, so they don't get my business. I just heard someone talking about it and I knew someone had mentioned dunkaroos on MDS before. I've never had a dunkaroo.

My life has also been dunkaroo-less.

According to this article, they are only here for the summer, so stock up Dunkaroo lovers!

Are they just coming back for the summer, or is the rollout Summer 2020 and they will be staying around?

For all you Dunkaroos fans, Sams is now carrying them too! I just checked and they are out of stock online, but they are in the stores too.

Does anyone remember "Coffee Time" syrup? I used to love that stuff and I thought of it about a month ago and couldn't find it in the store. So I just ordered a bottle from Amazon! Can't wait to reminisce.

What the fuck happened to Sobe's? I remember they were super popular, then they just disappeared.
