A man died following a pursuit with Wyoming Highway Patrol troopers near Sheridan on Friday.
On Friday, Feb. 21 the Wyoming Highway Patrol was notified of a suspected drunk driver in the Sheridan area. Troopers found a vehicle matching a description of the alleged drunk driver as it was speeding 97 mph in at 75 mph zone. A trooper turned on his emergency lights and attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver fled east on Interstate 90 maintaining speeds between 85 and 90 mph.
As the trooper was pursing the vehicle, the driver began climbing out of the vehicle?s sunroof. When he was on top of the vehicle, the driver jumped to the side of the roadway as the vehicle was still moving at about 80 mph. The vehicle stopped after crashing into a median cable divider.
The pursuing trooper immediately called for an ambulance and began performing CPR on the driver, but Emergency Medical Services pronounced him dead at the scene. Wyoming Highway Patrol has identified the driver as 43-year-old Marshall Acker of Tyler, Texas.
