The bodies of a Southern California couple missing since Friday were found just inside a forest near Big Bear Lake on Monday afternoon, San Bernardino County sheriff?s officials say.

Paul Arthur Stockwell Jr., 29, of Big Bear and Ria Gabriella Williams, 27, of Santa Ana were found a half-mile in the woods at 1:30 p.m. after a car belonging to Williams was found at the Cougar Crest Trailhead, the release says.

No cause of death was released, but the Sheriff?s Office has opened a homicide investigation because of the circumstances of their deaths, the release says.

The department released no details on what led it to classify the deaths as a homicide.

The couple, identified as boyfriend and girlfriend, were last seen Jan. 29 in Big Bear, the release says.

Williams was reported missing after she did not come to work Friday, and Stockwell?s father reported he also was missing, deputies wrote. The initial reports did not suggest suspicious activity or foul play, the release says.

Deputies searching for the couple found Williams? car about 2 a.m. Monday, the release says.

The sheriff?s office asked that anyone with information contact Detective Nick Craig at 909-387-3589 or leave anonymous tips at 800-78CRIME.
