At a Monday afternoon news conference, Cascade County Sheriff Jesse Slaughter said deputies responded to a 911 call from the residence at 8:19 p.m. for a report of a disturbance.

Upon arriving about 10 minutes later, law enforcement contacted the caller, John VanGilder. He stated that Harding, his girlfriend, had assaulted him and fled before deputies arrived on the scene.

According to Slaughter, Harding is an operating room nurse with Benefis Health System and is a mother to at least one child.

Harding was last seen wearing black yoga-style pants and a long-sleeve T-shirt of unknown color. Concerned because she was not dressed for the weather, deputies initiated a search.

Slaughter said searchers from CCSO, Cascade County Search and Rescue, the Great Falls Police Department, Great Falls Fire Rescue and Malmstrom Air Force Base have been looking for Harding and will continue searching throughout Monday and into the evening.

Searchers used K-9, drone, helicopter and ground grid searches to cover the area surrounding where Harding was last seen.

Law enforcement is also searching the Missouri River as much as its frozen surface will allow.

"It's extremely difficult, " Slaughter said. "There are spots we can (get on the water), but I have to factor in the safety of all the staff that we have out there ? not only county staff but volunteer staff, fire staff ? we have to factor in that safety, too, and that is a serious concern of mine at this point."

As of Monday, the sheriff's office is not asking for the public's help with the search efforts, but Slaughter will notify the media if that changes.

Sheriff Slaughter said that by 2:00 pm January 29, civilians were released from the search because the areas they wanted to search were covered thanks to the amount of resources they had. Slaughter said a community search could possibly resume in the future but for now, another law enforcement only search was conducted that he says is still ongoing at the time.

Slaughter also said that they have narrowed down and confirmed some leads they had in the investigation, adding they are purposely not telling the public certain information because they want to keep it for themselves in case the investigation becomes a criminal investigation.

The Cascade County Sheriff’s Office shared another update on January 30, saying they’re still searching for Amy and they are currently bringing in multiple resources from multiple agencies to assist.

Slaughter did not give a comment on what agencies are assisting them or how they’re being assisted because of the “integrity of the investigation.”

Slaughter did say he hopes to release more information sometime the next week.

On February 8, Cascade County Sheriff’s Office Detectives and Search and Rescue were out on the water looking for Amy.

CCSO shared to their social media, “Undaunted by high winds and cold temperatures; CCSO Detectives and Search and Rescue continue to search for Amy Harding.”

If you have any information about Amy's whereabouts please contact the Cascade County Sheriff’s Office at 406-454-6979.
