Police say they are looking for a 41-year-old mother of two who was reported missing by her family on Monday.

Police say Karolina Martinez Vanni was last seen walking north on Lockwood Avenue from Cove Road around noon Monday. Police ask that anyone with information on where she is to call them.

Lt. Thomas Scanlan said there is an active investigation into Martinez?s whereabouts.

Roberto Cabrera, who said he has lived with Martinez for 20 years, said he did not see her leave but video from their home shows that she left at about 12:10 p.m. Cabrera said Martinez speaks Spanish, but has difficulty with English.

Cabrera said he and Martinez have two girls ages 11 and 13.

?We?ve lived here for around 20 years,? Cabrera said by telephone Tuesday afternoon. ?I have no idea where she would have gone.?

Scanlon said a bloodhound sent out to track her on Tuesday was unable to find her.

?There is no evidence of foul play,? Scanlon said. ?There is nothing right now that indicates foul play other than her disappearance. We don?t have any reason for her disappearance.?

Anyone with information on Martinez?s whereabouts is asked to call police investigators at 203-977-4417.

After seeing a woman reported missing get onto a bus near her home in Stamford and get off the bus by herself in Darien, police say they do not believe anything bad has happened to Karolina Martinez Vanni or that she is being held under duress.

It was a slow and tedious process to talk to Martinez’s friends and family on the East Side and compile video on her journey, but police were able to put together a video trail showing her get on the bus at Lockwood Avenue and East Main Street Monday and get off in the Noroton section of Darien minutes later, Sgt. Paul Guzda said.

Still, there are many questions left to be answered about why Martinez, 41, left home.

“It does not look like at any point she is under any distress. She was by herself,” Guzda said after looking at video of Martinez from inside the Connecticut Transit bus. “We have absolutely no evidence that foul play was involved.”
Police obtained video of her walking north on Lockwood Avenue from Cove road.

Guzda said the video trail led them to East Main Street where she boarded the eastbound bus to Darien.

“At this time, this is where the trail ends,” Guzda said. He said that Martinez’s partner and the father of her children, Roberto Cabrera, has been “cooperating 150 percent” and Martinez’s friends and neighbors have told investigators that the two are caring and supportive parents.

Guzda said police have not been called to their home in the Cove for any domestic issues in the past.

Cabrera said the two have been living in Stamford for 20 years and are raising two girls, ages 11 and 13.

“We cannot comment on why she left, we just don’t know,” Guzda said. “We are trying to figure this out and the investigation continues.”

When asked about the Darien destination, Cabrera said he wasn’t sure it was true.

“I don’t want to put that out there until we are 100 percent sure. Until then I’d like to keep it the way it was,” he said, meaning that he will continue to search in Stamford for Martinez.

Guzda said if anyone sees Martinez or has information they would like to share on the case, call 203-977-4417.
