The bodies of a missing young couple have been found in far north Queensland after the couple died in a suspected fall while on a camping trip.

Sherei Anderson, 32, and Simon Walker, 24, were reported missing near Cairns on Monday after failing to turn up to their respective jobs.

The Townsville couple went camping in the Goldsborough area of Wooroonooran National Park on Thursday after Ms Anderson arrived in Cairns from a trip to Japan.

It's believed they tried to climb difficult terrain at Kearneys Falls when they fell.

Their deaths appear to be the "direct consequence of misadventure, rather than any third party involvement", acting Detective Inspector Ed Kinbacher said on Tuesday.

"It appears, in the preliminary stages of it, that they have fallen making the unwise decision to climb the quite steep falls, which were, in fact, closed above that swimming hole," he told reporters.
