Stephanie Parze (25) was murdered by her ex-boyfriend, who later killed himself

    https://www.foxnews.com/us/missing-w...onmouth-county

The Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office said on Facebook that 25-year-old Stephanie Parze was last seen around 10 p.m. on Wednesday at her home in Freehold Township, located about 50 miles south of New York City.

Family members told News 12 New Jersey the 25-year-old had gone to see a medium with some other family earlier Wednesday night before returning to her parents' home, which is about 10 minutes away.

Her mother, Sharlene Parze, told News 12 the 25-year-old's phone and car were found at Parze's house.

"She would never go out of the house without her phone," her mother told News 12 New Jersey. "Everything is just not her. You know, and I had just left her. And she was supposed to text me when she got home and she never did, but we know that she made it home because her car was in the driveway."

Family members said that they knew something was wrong when the 25-year-old didn't show up to work the next day.

Stephanie's father, Ed Parze, told WCBS-TV it's not like his daughter, the oldest of four children, to just go without contacting anyone.

Stephanie Parze is described as 4-feet, 11-inches tall weighing 115 pounds with brown hair and eyes. The 25-year-old was last seen on Wednesday wearing jeans, a burgundy v-neck shirt and a burgundy sweater.

The Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office is asking anyone with information who has had contact with Parze to contact Detective Shawn Murphy of the Monmouth County Prosecutor?s Office at 732-431-7160 ext. 7032, or Detective Daniel Valentine of the Freehold Township Police at 732-462-7908.

Law enforcement officials say that they have questioned a person of interest in the disappearance of a Freehold woman missing since Oct. 30.

Stephanie Parze, 25, was reported missing after she failed to return to her home after spending the day with family members. The family says that the last known communication with Parze was a Snapchat video of Parze driving home.

Law enforcement sources tell News 12 New Jersey that cellphone records seem to indicate that the person of interest was in the woods on Staten Island for a period of time around 3 a.m. on Oct. 31.

Officials did not say who the person of interest is or what their connection may be to Parze.

Police expanded their search for Parze to Staten Island on Tuesday. Offices were out in Long Pond Park. Police were also searching in New York City on Monday.

Monmouth County's CrimeStoppers program is now offering a $5,000 reward for information that helps find Stephanie Parze, a Freehold Toiwnship woman missing since Oct. 30.

The search for Parze has spanned two states, and a man linked to her has been arrested on what police say are entirely unrelated charges.

Here's what we know — and don't — so far:

Parze's parents called police after they couldn't get a hold of her at her late grandmother's home, where she'd been living, according to the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office. Her car was found by police at the house, along with her phone, purse, and the shoes that she wore the night of Oct. 30, prosecutors said.

Police have said they consider the disappearance suspicious.

Did anyone mean her harm? If so, Parze's parents say they can't imagine who. Edward and Sharlene Parez, said the “unknown” of what happened to Stephanie is "driving us crazy." They urged their daughter to stay strong, keep fighting and vowed to find her.

“They're going to find you. I’m going to find you,” Edward Parze said during an appearance on CNN Headline News.

Where have police searched? A law enforcement source told told ABC 7 Eyewitness News that a cell phone belonging to a “person of interest" triggered a search around Staten Island's Long Pond Park, a 91-acre park not far from Route 440 and the Outerbridge Crossing. The Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office later confirmed that the search for Parze has extended to Staten Island and is ongoing in the area of Long Pond Park. A spokesman would not say what investigators are looking for.

What happened the night of Parze's disappearance? Parze's father told the Asbury Park Press she had gone to a medium in New Brunswick for a girls night out the night she was last seen. She then went to her grandmother’s home, where she had been living since the grandmother died in 2018, the Press reports her father said.

Has anyone been arrested? On Friday, police made an arrest at the home of a man seemingly romantically linked to Parze — but authorities say the charges are entirely unrelated to her disappearance.

Prosecutors on Friday afternoon said that John Ozbilgen, 29, was charged with third-degree possession of child pornography. The Asbury Park Press reported earlier on Friday that Ozbilgen was the man seen in an "in a relationship" post on Parze's Facebook page. Both their Facebook pages have several pictures of them together.

But the arrest itself raises questions — including whether authorities became aware of evidence against Ozbilgen while investigating Parze's disappearance. If authorities have any suspects in the disappearance itself, they haven't said so publicly

Authorities are conducting a search on Staten Island in connection to a missing woman from New Jersey.

Stephanie Parze, 25, was last seen Oct. 30 after she spent a night out with family to see a psychic.

On Wednesday afternoon, the search intensified as teams swarmed the northwest corner of Long Pond Park.

Bloodhounds were used to find any clues in Parze's disappearance.

Just last week, a man believed to be a person of interest in her disappearance was taken into custody on unrelated charges.

Authorities say Parze's ex-boyfriend, John Ozbilgen, was arrested on child porn charges after police searched his home in connection to Parze's disappearance.

It appears police also have evidence that he was in the park that night she disappeared.

The New Jersey woman who for two weeks police and family have been searching for twice called the police on her boyfriend for abuse, law enforcement sources told NBC New York.

During their months-long relationship, Stephanie Parze accused John Ozbilgen of abuse in two separate instances, sources said. Ozbilgen is a person of interest in the 25-year-old’s disappearance in late October.

The first incident Freehold Township police were called for was in June, when Ozbilgen was accused of “grabbing her face, pulling her hair and dragging her by her hair causing minor injury and pain,” according to a police report.

Parze asked for that charge to be dismissed sometime afterward.

But three months later police were once again called, law enforcement sources said, this time for “striking the victim once and hitting her hand, causing injury to her thumb and thumbnail, then striking the victim a second time, making contact with the side of her head using his backhand,” the police report read.

Police reports claim Ozbilgen appeared to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol during one of the times they responded, and both times Parze said she was going to end the relationship. The police report also noted Parze was afraid of future assaults.

The second incident was five weeks before her disappearance. Ozbilgen’s brother declined to comment to NBC New York after answering the door at the family’s home a neighbor said they moved into last spring.
Is it bad of me that I want to know if the psychic they saw that day warned her she was about to go missing???

The on-again-off-again boyfriend of a missing Freehold Township woman sent her 10 unanswered angry texts the night before she went missing, prosecutors revealed Tuesday shortly before a judge ordered him released from jail on an unrelated child pornography possession charge.

Monmouth County Assistant Prosecutor Caitlin Sidley told Superior Court Judge Paul X. Escandon about the derogatory texts on Tuesday while trying to convince him to keep John Ozbilgen in jail as authorities continue to search for Stephanie Parze, 25, of Freehold Township. Ozbilgen blamed Parze for the failed relationship in the profane texts, Sidley said.

“Detectives learned that this defendant was texting and Facebook messaging Parze the night before her disappearance," Sidley said. "Those messages spanned just over nine minutes long. There were 10 unanswered messages, concluding with calling Stephanie Parze (an expletive) and telling her that she ‘always has to make their relationship suck.’”

Detectives also noted marks around Ozbilgen’s neck while they were investigating Parze’s disappearance, Sidley said.

John Ozbilgen, ex-boyfriend of missing NJ woman Stephanie Parze, found dead

    https://nypost.com/2019/11/22/john-o...ze-found-dead/

The ex-boyfriend of missing New Jersey nanny Stephanie Parze — who had been named a person of interest in the case — killed himself in his home, law enforcement sources confirmed in a report Friday.

John Ozbilgen, a 29-year-old stockbroker, apparently took his own life in his Freehold Township home overnight, the sources told NBC New York.

In September, Parze, 25, filed a simple assault domestic violence complaint against Ozbilgen, who was arrested earlier this month on unrelated child pornography charges.

Police say Ozbilgen was considered a person of interest in Parze’s disappearance but he had not been charged with a crime.

Parze vanished after going to see psychic medium Cindy Kaza’s show at the Stress Factory Comedy Club in New Brunswick with her mother, three sisters and other female relatives on Oct. 30, her parents previously told The Post.

A former girlfriend of John Ozbilgen — who committed suicide as he was being eyed in Stephanie Parze’s disappearance — suspects her ex choked the New Jersey nanny to death during sex or a fight, according to a new report.

The woman — who spoke to the Asbury Park Press on the condition of anonymity — told the paper that Ozbilgen choked her multiple times. It happened during sex, and was consensual, she said, but he’d also often choke her into unconsciousness during arguments.

She said she believes Ozbilgen, 29, did the same to Parze, 25.

“I think it was either during sex or during an argument that he most likely choked her and meant for her to go unconscious for a few seconds,” the woman said.

She said she’s gone out of her way to help authorities with their investigation into Parze’s disappearance.

“I told the police, ‘If she’s missing, it’s most likely because John killed her,’” she said. “I also told the police, ‘If he did it, I don’t think you’ll find her because he is so sick.’”

The ex-girlfriend also said she saw Ozbilgen a day after Parze’s Oct. 30 disappearance — and he had a long scab on his neck that appeared to be the width of a girl’s fake nail.

“I’ve seen him have sex scratch marks,” the ex-girlfriend told the Press. “I’ve given them to him. This one was much different. I actually went up to him and said, ‘John, that’s not from sex. That’s really, really bad.'”

But Ozbilgen quickly dismissed any further questioning, she said.

“Rough night,” he allegedly replied. “Don’t ask.”

Stephanie Parze may have stayed with her now-deceased boyfriend at her Freehold home the night before she went missing, according to an NJ.com report on the 911 call Parze's mother made to police.

During the eight-minute 911 call Sharlene Parze made on Oct. 31, she said the family had already contacted John Ozbilgen, who had been dating Stephanie off and on for several months.

Ozbilgen told Sharlene Parze he had seen the 25-year-old Stephanie the night before, when he had stayed at Stephanie's house, but had not heard from her since.

"I've been calling and texting her all day," Sharlene Parze can be heard telling the 911 dispatcher on audio of the call obtained by NJ.com. "....I've reached out to almost every friend that she has."

Parze was reported missing after she did not show up for a babysitting job and also did not return several calls from family members. She had been living at her late grandmother's home in Freehold Township and caring for her grandmother's dogs.

Prosecutors also revealed that the day before Parze vanished, Ozbilgen had sent her a series of 10 unanswered texts in nine minutes, ending with a expletive-laden complaint.

Parze had filed a simple assault charge against Ozbilgen in September, authorities have said. According to court records, Ozbilgen allegedly hit Parze during a domestic dispute.

Police have been tight-lipped about the investigation, which they maintain is "active and ongoing." They have confirmed they searched for Stephanie in Staten Island twice and also at her ex-boyfriend's house in Freehold Township.

Weeks after Stephanie Parze was last seen, authorities had all but concluded that John Ozbilgen, 29, her ex-boyfriend, was responsible for her disappearance, Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher Gramiccioni told reporters at a news conference Monday.

Their suspicions were confirmed soon after Ozbilgen was found dead by suicide on Nov. 22 at his home in Freehold Township, where he left a note admitting his involvement in Parze's death, Gramiccioni said.

Authorities do not believe anyone else was involved, Gramiccioni said at the news conference, hours after authorities announced that her remains had been discovered Sunday.

"That guilt belongs to John Ozbilgen and John Ozbilgen alone," he said.
Gramiccioni said Monday that among the items recovered from the home was a note that Ozbilgen left for his parents.

"In the note, Ozbilgen stated that he had had enough and that he could not do life in prison," Gramiccioni said. "He also admitted that what his parents would hear in the news was true except for charges of child pornography that were filed by our office on November 9."

The note did not disclose the location of Parze's remains. Gramiccioni said he told Parze's parents about the note but did not notify the public because of the investigation.

Ozbilgen was never charged in Parze's death.

Two teenagers found Parze's body Sunday afternoon along U.S. Route 9 in Old Bridge, New Jersey, Acting Middlesex County Prosecutor Christopher Kuberiet said Monday. The location is near an area where police and others had previously searched, officials said.

An autopsy Monday morning confirmed Parze's identity, according to the Monmouth County prosecutor's office. The cause and manner of death are yet to be determined.

"That guilt belongs to John Ozbilgen and John Ozbilgen alone," Gramiccioni said.

The note to his parents, scribbled on the back of a shopping list, reads in part: "Sorry about all this crazyness, I've been miserable for so long now, I had enough. ... I can't do life in prison. Most of the stuff you will hear is true, exept (sic) the child porn, I would never do that."

Ozbilgen closes the note by saying: "I dug myself in a deep hole, this is the only choice. I love you guys," then signed it with a smiley face.
The day after her remains were found, Ozbilgen's parents released a statement through their attorney, Richard Incremona, rejecting the prosecutors' conclusion.

"We are very sorry for her family and we hope they can find peace through this nightmare," the Ozbilgens said. "We don't truly know what happened to Stephanie, but what we do know is John never said that he hurt Stephanie to us or in the note he left us."

"We believe he is innocent, but all the pressure from the false child pornography charges and the constant searches and relentlessness caused him to take his own life," the statement said.

Ozbilgen's second suicide note was addressed to an unidentified ex-girlfriend. In it he apologizes for messing up their relationship, and then bashes Parze:

"I love you so much little lady," he wrote. "I don't know what I was thinking when I (messed) our relationship up. ... I recently tried to reach out to you, you got a restraining order? Why? At that moment I felt like my entire world ended."

"Look @ the mess I created, LoL. Don't beleve (sic) everything in the news," he wrote. Then he made an apparent reference to Parze: "The girl in the news with me was such a piece of s---, she hurt me over and over, when I was already at my lowest, she was a horrible person."

He closes by saying: "Sorry for everything, I wish I could go back in time @ correct my mistakes, but I can't," and signs it with a frown.
John Ozbilgen's second suicide note, provided by the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office

"He was a typical manipulator," Ed Parze said of Ozbilgen in a Patch interview two weeks before Stephanie's body was found. "He kept worming his way back in."

Ozbilgen had dated Parze for just a few months, according to her family and her Facebook postings. Stephanie Parze had filed a domestic violence complaint against Ozbilgen in September, a month after posting the two were in a relationship.

In addition to the complaint she filed there were two other women who had filed complaints against Ozbilgen, Gramiccioni said. He was awaiting trial on one of those in addition to the charge filed by Parze at the time of his death.

The Parze family has said it plans to create the Stephanie Parze Foundation to help raise awareness of domestic violence and help women trying to escape it, as well as help families of those searcing for missing loved ones. The Parzes and their army of "Steph's Angels" searched more than 60 sites in New Jersey and on Staten Island over the 87 days that she was missing.

Parze went missing from her Freehold Township home Oct. 30 after a night out with family. The next day, Ozbilgen told her sister he had been at the house but had last seen Stephanie getting ready for work.

Ozbilgen was arrested Nov. 9 on the child pornography charge. In a Nov. 20 hearing, prosecutors told a Monmouth County judge he had multiple images of violent child pornography on his phone, NJ.com reported. The images were found when authorities seized his phone and other electronic devices during one of the searches as they investigated Parze's disappearance.

Prosecutors also told Superior Court Judge Paul Escandon that Ozbilgen sent 10 angry text messages to Parze the night before she disappeared, NJ.com reported. Parze never answered the texts, which concluded with one calling her an expletive.

Her body was found Jan. 26 in a wooded area along Route 9 in Old Bridge by two teenagers who were walking to work, authorities said. One of the teens told the Asbury Park Press that she was clothed and face-down when they found her. The boys saw her remains from the side of the road, acting Middlesex County Prosecutor Christopher Kuberiet said. Her identity was confirmed during an autopsy by the Middlesex County medical examiner, but a ruling on the cause and manner of death are still pending.

NJ woman’s murder investigation turns to suspected killers’ parents

    https://nypost.com/2020/10/24/stepha...llers-parents/

In the year since her daughter Stephanie was killed by an abusive boyfriend, Sharlene Parze has been haunted by the close bond they shared.

“We did everything together — holidays, vacations, day trips, just going out to dinner, movies,” said the mother, who finds reminders of her daughter everywhere, never knowing when one will trigger despair.

“Now we just have a hole,” Sharlene Parze, 53, said through tears in an interview from her Freehold, NJ, home Thursday.

“It’s all you ever think about, your mind never shuts off — reliving what she was thinking when it was happening, trying to see her face, not being able to hold her, kiss her or hug her ever again.”

As the first anniversary of the disappearance and death of the 25-year-old New Jersey makeup artist approaches, her distraught parents hold on to one final hope for securing answers about what happened to their daughter on the night of Oct. 30, 2019.

Robbed of closure by the suicide of Parze’s suspected killer, John Ozbilgen, Parze’s family — and Monmouth County prosecutors — are now honing in on what Ozbilgen told his parents before he died.

“We want the truth to come out,” Sharlene Parze said.

Her husband, Ed Parze, 55, added, “How can they defend their son when they know he committed this crime? Man up, do the right thing.

“No matter what they find, it will not bring Stephanie back. It will give us more of an understanding, if they do know anything. I hate to think this happened, and they covered it up.”

The Parzes never heard from their daughter again after she left their house on Halloween eve, following a night out with her mother and sisters to visit a New Brunswick psychic. She sent her mom a Snapchat message while driving back to her own home nearby, but calls and texts the next morning went unanswered.

The family immediately suspected Parze’s on-and-off-again boyfriend, Ozbilgen, a 29-year-old stockbroker who had recently moved from Staten Island to suburban Freehold Township. He had been charged with attacking Parze and a second woman between June and October, 2019.

“The minute we couldn’t find her, I said, ‘Where is he?'” Ed Parze recalled. “Those were the first words out of my mouth.”

Ozbilgen admitted he spent the night at Parze’s on Oct. 30, and claimed she was alive when he left the next morning.

But he remained the principal person of interest as thousands of volunteers scoured woodlands from Freehold Township to Staten Island in the next few months searching for Stephanie’s body. In November, cops arrested Ozbilgen on child porn charges, after finding images in his phone, while continuing to try to squeeze him for a confession.

But Ozbilgen never copped to the murder. And as investigators circled, their prime suspect hanged himself his parent’s garage on Nov. 22.

He left behind at least two notes, which hinted at homicide but never disclosed the whereabouts of Stephanie’s body.

“I dug myself in a deep hole. This is the only choice,” he wrote.

Her remains were finally discovered three months later, in the weeds just off the shoulder of Highway 9 about 10 miles north of Freehold in Old Bridge, NJ. They were too decomposed for authorities to determine how she was killed, her parents said.

While the Ozbilgens have maintained their son’s innocence, and their own, authorities insist he didn’t take all of his secrets to the grave.

Prosecutors “believe there were texts between them [Ozbilgen and his parents] after he killed her. They believe he confessed to his parents early on,” said a law enforcement source.

Hakan and Cynthia Ozbilgen are now the subject of an evidence-tampering investigation, the source said. Prosecutors have also discussed hindering prosecution and obstruction of justice charges.

Authorities suspect the two may have deleted messages exchanged with their son — possibly crucial evidence — shortly after Parze was reported missing, the source said. Authorities also believe they withheld one of the suicide notes their son wrote, according to the source, and they refuse to turn over their cellphone passwords so their devices can be searched.

Hakan Ozbilgen, 55, admitted withholding the passwords in an interview with The Post Friday. He blames law enforcement for his son’s death and is not in a cooperative mood.

“The reason why my son took his life is not because he did something to this poor girl, it’s because he was charged with child pornography. He couldn’t handle it,” Hakan Ozbilgen seethed. “I’m so angry at them, that’s why I’m talking like this.”

Prosecutors say they made the disturbing discovery of 10 images of young girls and babies being abused on Ozbilgen’s cellphone while they were scanning the device for clues on Parze. They arrested him Nov. 8, 2019, on the charge of possession of child pornography, and he spent the next 11 days in jail. He killed himself three days after his release on bail.

Hakan Ozbilgen believes the charges were false and meant to pressure his son.

“This is why I can’t stand the prosecutor. They would leave him in the [cell], nine days by himself, and then every morning they would have a female guard go in and she would say, ‘John, do you see how many charges they got against you today?’ They were using this female officer, and what they really wanted him to do was they wanted him to go like insane on her . . . so they could say he has some kind of bias against women, and it’s not true. It’s not true,” the father said.

“You guys are the murderers,” Ozbilgen said, referring to prosecutors. “My son had nothing to do with her disappearance. Prosecutors lied through their teeth.”

Ozbilgen’s father even explains away some of the most incriminating clues linking his son to Parze’s disappearance — his suicide notes and 10 expletive-laden text messages he sent to Parze, including one calling her a “f–king c–t, the night before she died.

He claims his son had reason to be upset because Parze “was involved with five or six other guys.” He then quickly added, “There are a couple things I know that I won’t say, because I don’t want to make her look bad. She’s not here, my son is not here.”

The father said his son was a gentleman, not the raging misogynist he is made out to be.

“My son dated a lot of girls. … There would be a lot more girls out there saying something about him. My son was 6’ 4, he was gorgeous, he had brown hair, green eyes, when I walked in the mall with him, girls would turn around and stare at him. He was a beautiful kid.”

But one ex did complain — telling the Asbury Park Press that Ozbilgen would choke her during sex and arguments, sometimes until she passed out.

Prosecutors believe Stephanie may have died during “rough sex” with Ozbilgen, the law enforcement source said.

“His parents were well aware of his battering of women and his need for rough sex, and so when he got himself in trouble, he would just go to his parents to get him out of jail,” the source said. “It would make sense if he killed her in the middle of rough sex. It would make sense he called his father and said he killed her.”

Meanwhile prosecutors’ stalemate with the Ozbilgens continues.

“There is an open investigation into [the Ozbilgens] own actions, into hindering and obstruction in the aftermath during the investigation by the state,” Monmouth County assistant prosecutor Caitlin Sidley said last month, the Asbury Park Press reported.

Prosecutors declined to answer questions from The Post, citing an ongoing investigation.

The Parzes are well-known in their Freehold community through their four daughters, Ed’s work as a volunteer EMT and limo-company owner, and their over-the-top Christmas light display on their home along Route 33.

“We always had people at our house, that was our thing,” Sharlene recalled about their girls, who range in age from 14 to 23, seemingly always having friends over.

Cynthia Ozbilgen, a cosmetologist, and husband Hakan, an MTA bus driver, both originally from Brooklyn, moved to Freehold Township in 2018 after raising their sons in Rossville, Staten Island.

Just three months after Stephanie and John met, Parze accused Ozbilgen of assaulting her. But Ozbilgen always seemed to find a way to lure Parze — who “looked for the best in everybody,” according to her father — back in.

Eventually, Parze, who was just 4-foot-11 and 115 pounds, grew to fear her hulking boyfriend, Ed Parze said, and became withdrawn from her family.

“Two days before, I said to her, ‘I really feel like you’re going MIA on us, you’re not coming over, you’re not calling,” Sharlene Parze said.

The tragedy — and all they’ve learned about domestic violence since — has inspired the Parzes to start a nonprofit they hope to use to help other victims of abuse and their families, the Stephanie Nicole Parze Foundation.

“We just don’t want anyone to forget her,” Sharlene Parze said.
