That’s pretty brazen to take a kid out of their yard in front of a bunch of people. I hope she’s found safe, she’s a little cutie.

Chief Smith says it’s a possibility Kamille is being moved around to different locations. He asks anyone with information, including video, to come forward, promising anonymity.

“We’re doing everything we can, and we’re following every lead. We encourage you to keep them coming,” Chief Smith urges.

    SHERIFF ADDRESSES CONFLICTING REPORTS

At 1:06 p.m. Jefferson County Sheriff Mark Pettway told CBS 42’s Art Franklin in a phone call that he had received misinformation from one of his deputies in the field.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office released the following statement:

“The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is working closely with Birmingham Police and local officials to bring Kamille “Cupcake” McKinney home. Unfortunately, misinformation was passed on to a CBS 42 employee from JCSO. The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office continues to offer our deputies and resources to assist in this case; we are not the lead on this investigation. We will continue to work with the participating law enforcement agencies with the hopes of bringing Kamille “Cupcake” McKinney back home safely to her family. It is vital to remain focused on bringing Kamille “Cupcake” McKinney home. Our prayers are with her family and the lead agency.“

The attorney for a man detained in connection with the abduction of a 3-year-old Birmingham girl said his client had nothing to do with the disappearance of Kamille “Cupcake” McKinney.

“He’s just taken aback that he’s considered as a suspect in the disappearance of this lovely child,’’ said attorney Emory Anthony.

Patrick Devone Stallworth, 39, bonded out of the Jefferson County Jail at 3:22 a.m. Thursday after posting $500,000. He and his girlfriend, 29-year-old Derick Irisha Brown, were taken into custody Sunday night after police released surveillance images of the SUV believed to be involved in the abduction of Kamille, as well as surveillance photos of Stallworth at a convenience store near Tom Brown Village.

Residents at Woodside Condominiums in Center Point spotted the car and called police. Officers swarmed the complex, arresting Stallworth and Brown. Neither have been charged with any crime in connection with Kamille’s disappearance.

Stallworth was held for almost 48 hours and then charged with possession of child pornography and possession with intent to distribute child pornography. The images were discovered on his phone during the ongoing investigation into the abduction of Kamille.

None of the photos on Stallworth’s phone were of Kamille, according to authorities. He has not been charged with any crime in connection with Kamille’s disappearance. A preliminary hearing in the child pornography cases is set for Nov. 12.

Anthony said Stallworth has an alibi for the time frame in which police said Kamille was abducted. The attorney said his client does not know any of Kamille’s family members.

They found her in a landfill

Two people are being charged with capital murder, but I missed the first few minutes of the press conference, so I'm unsure if it's the couple they questioned in the beginning. Hopefully there will be an article soon.

    I believe so.

They were pretty brazen, they grabbed her out of a yard at a birthday party where there were a bunch of witnesses.

Kamille "Cupcake" McKinney, a 3-year-old girl whose body was found in a dumpster more than a week after she vanished from a birthday party in Alabama, died from suffocation, according to documents read during a court appearance for the man and woman charged in her murder.

The man, Patrick Stallworth, and the woman, Derick Brown, appeared before a judge on Friday at Jefferson County Criminal Court less than 24 hours after the district attorney announced that they each had been charged with capital murder in Kamille's death.

Stallworth told the judge, "I don't understand how I'm being charged with the murder of this child."

According to court documents, Kamille died of asphyxiation on Oct. 12, the same day she went missing from an outdoor birthday party at a home in Birmingham. Police said the girl, known as "Cupcake," was at the home with her mother and other relatives.

Her remains were discovered Tuesday in a dumpster at a landfill, ending an intense 10-day search for her.

Birmingham Police Chief Patrick D. Smith said at a news conference Tuesday that he does not believe Stallworth and Brown knew Kamille or her family. As for a possible motive, the chief said he believes it was something the suspects "thought about and acted upon."

"They saw an opportunity to take a young child, which they did," Smith told reporters.
