Well, that?s a nutty place to hide something.

A street-smart squirrel found an inspiring spot to stash its cache of nuts for the winter: underneath the hood of a Pennsylvania couple?s car.

Pittsburgh resident Chris Persic was already suspicious of the absence of fallen kernels on the ground near a black walnut tree outside of his house, reports CBS Pittsburgh. ?Funny thing is I was thinking that for how massive the tree is, and how many walnuts have fallen (and how many dents our vehicle received), there really aren?t many on the ground,? said Persic.

But when his wife, Holly, called him from a local library, saying their car was making strange sounds and had a burning smell, he instructed her to pop open the hood ? uncovering a stockpile of more than 200 walnuts surrounded by a makeshift nest of grass.

Persic says it took about an hour to remove the hairy hoarder?s mess. The couple then drove their SUV to a local auto shop, where they discovered even more walnuts under the engine.

?They were storing up for the next three winters,? Persic joked.

He documented the incident on Facebook with the caption ?Rodents and vehicles do not mix?? The post has garnered almost 400 likes and more than 100 comments, including the suggestion to ?cut them damn walnut trees down lol.?

It turns out the couple has already requested a quote for removal of the tree.

Persic summed up the experience as ?absolutely nuts?.no pun intended? on Facebook.
