Police in Buffalo, New York, are trying to determine if there is a connection between the discovery of a 3-year-old boy in a cat box on a porch Monday morning and human remains found in a burned car later that night.

Buffalo police said they are looking for Nicole Merced Plaud, 24, and Miguel Anthony Valentin-Colon, 31, who they say are the parents of a 3-year-old boy whom Buffalo resident Lois Augsberger found sleeping in a cat box on her porch. Police said they are also looking for a friend of the couple, Dhamyl Mirella Roman-Audiffred, 29. All three adults are from Orlando.

After Augsberger found the boy, investigators found a burned car in the city's Black Rock neighborhood, according to NBC affiliate WGRZ. There were human remains inside the car, and investigators are working to determine if the crime scene is connected to the missing parents and their friend.

Zenaida Colon, who says she is the grandmother of the child, traveled to Buffalo with other family members to try to get custody of the boy Tuesday, WGRZ reported. The boy is in the custody of child protective services.

Wtf is a cat box? A litter box? A cat carrier? How would he fit in there?

This whole story is weird. I wonder if the parents were killed and the killers didn’t know what to do with the kid?

I am thinking a litter box, but I'm not sure.

Three-year-old Noelvin was found early Monday morning on a porch in Buffalo, New York, nearly 1,200 miles away from his home near Orlando, Florida, according to police.

"The child is in good spirits," Buffalo Police Department Captain Jeff Rinaldo told reporters on Tuesday. "He is currently in the custody of Child Protective Services and we are working with CPS and the grandmothers, to begin the process of reuniting them."

The woman who found the toddler said he told her that his family's car was on fire, investigators said. Police found a charred vehicle in a wooded area nearby later that night with evidence of human remains inside, but they said it's too early to say if the cases are related.

Rinaldo said the vehicle was completely burned out and it will take "quite sometime" to trace its origin or identify the human remains inside.

After making contact with the child's grandparents, police said he may have been on a road trip with his parents -- Nicole Merced Plaud, 24, and Miguel Valentin-Colon, 31 -- and 29-year-old Dhamyl Roman-Audiffred, a family friend.

The young boy's family said they didn't know his parents had planned to go out of town, but it wasn't unusual from them to take road trips.
Officers with the Buffalo Police Department's homicide division released images of parents and Roman-Audiffred on Tuesday, saying they were "attempting to make contact with these three individuals or speak to anyone who has seen them in the past few days."

"We believe that these people may have arrived in Buffalo sometime late Sunday night and were here and possibly are still in the Buffalo area," Rinaldo told reporters Tuesday. "We will not know the identities of the people found in the vehicle for quite some time. It is requiring the services of forensic anthropologist to put together exactly what happened."

Police said they're reviewing video evidence in an effort to create a possible timeline of events. They said anyone who may have saw the vehicle on fire or should contact police immediately.

The kid said he saw the car on fire. I hope he didn’t see his parents killed. I have a feeling it was them in the car.

The Central Florida boy who was abandoned on a doorstep in Buffalo, N.Y. is now residing with his grandmother in Longwood, who was granted custody of the boy Friday in New York court, Channel 6-WKMG reported.

The 3-year-old was reunited with his grandparents last week, when they traveled to Buffalo after seeing a picture of him on social media and in news reports, authorities said. The boy was discovered Sept. 16 alone on a Buffalo woman’s porch, sparking a search for his family.

Authorities said the child’s parents, Nicole Merced Plaud, 24, and Miguel Anthony Valentin-Colon, 31, have been missing since Sept. 14, when they left Orlando with the child and a friend, Dhamyl Mirella Roman-Audiffred, 29, for a road trip to Buffalo.

About a mile from the woman’s home where the boy was found, authorities discovered a burned vehicle in a secluded area behind a warehouse. In it were the remains of two people. Police said the car was identified as the same one the boy’s parents rented from Orlando to travel to Buffalo.

Authorities are still working to identify the remains found in the vehicle.
