MARRERO, La. ?
The family of a 7-year-old killed in Marrero on Thursday has shared a photo of the child.

The Jefferson Parish coroner identified the child as Mekia Smith.

Smith's brother, Ronald Eddington, 21, was also killed in the shooting.

An 11-year-old and an 18-year-old were injured.

The family said Smith was filled with so much love and joy. They said she was beautiful, happy and just wanted to be a kid.

"She was so beautiful. She was beautiful. Just always happy, always smiling," said Tiffany Theodore-Weatherspoon, the victims' aunt.

The family is now raising money to help cover the costs of both memorials.

Smith was a student at Estelle Elementary. A spokesperson for Jefferson Parish Public Schools System released this statement Friday:

"The entire Jefferson Parish Schools family is deeply saddened by this tragedy. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family. Counselors were on campus yesterday to provide support for any student or staff member, and they will remain available as long as they are needed."

Investigators say an argument between two men may have led to the shooting.

Two suspects were identified as being responsible for the incident, according to Lopinto.

One suspect, Everette Campbell, 23, of Terrytown, was located and arrested overnight. The second suspect, Malik McGinnis, 22, surrendered to authorities and was arrested on suspicion of two counts of first-degree murder, two counts of attempted first-degree murder and one count of obstruction of justice, according to Jefferson Parish Sheriff Joseph Lopinto.

"It?s just a sad case. It?s just truly a sad case. It?s unfathomable. You never expect anything like this to take place in your family. You know, you see on the news with other families and your heart goes out to them, but then when it?s your family, it really just takes your breath away," said Theodore-Weatherspoon.
