Kristian Bailey (31) was allegedly kidnapped and killed by fellow employee Brian Douglas Allen (37)

A Rowlett mother is dead after a man she worked with allegedly kidnapped her in a company truck, drove her to Mississippi and fatally shot her.

Brian Douglas Allen, 37, was arrested in connection with the slaying of Kristian Bailey, 31, according to Covington County Undersheriff Layne McLaurin.

Allen, also of Rowlett, has been charged with first-degree murder as well as attempted murder, shooting into an occupied dwelling, theft of a motor vehicle and two counts of possession of a firearm by a felon, McLaurin said.

He was being held at the Covington County jail, with bail set at $2.25 million.

Bailey?s aunt, Shyril Hulshouser Small of Dallas, said that her niece ? a mother of two sons about ages 5 and 12 ? had been working for a few days with Allen at a power-washing company. She said Allen had talked Bailey into taking the new job.

But last Wednesday, she said, Allen picked Bailey up in a company truck for what he told her was a job in Arlington. When she hadn?t returned to pick up her boys at 6 p.m., the family knew something was amiss.

"She never ran late," Small said.

Bailey didn't have a cellphone, so the family repeatedly tried calling Allen instead, Small said. When he wouldn't answer, the family notified the company, which she said located the truck in Mississippi and remotely shut down the vehicle.

Allen eventually picked up a call from Bailey's mother, Small said, while her boyfriend, Nate Baldwin, said Bailey briefly reached him on the Facebook Messenger app. Both calls were brief but full of shouting from both Allen and Bailey, they said.

The two apparently then set out on foot from the disabled truck, Small said. The family was told Bailey was shot later that night, she said.

According to WDAM-TV, deputies were dispatched on a call of shots fired near rural Mount Olive, about 40 miles northwest of Hattiesburg, just after 1 a.m. Thursday. Allen reportedly exchanged gunfire with deputies before stealing a patrol car and driving away.

The car was later found a few miles away, authorities said, but hours passed before Allen was taken into custody.

Small said her niece lay undiscovered in the front yard of a Mount Olive home for half a day after police received a shots-fired call before the owners returned from an out-of-town trip and found her body.

Bailey was pronounced dead Thursday afternoon on Highway 49, just south of Mount Olive, Covington County Deputy Coroner Arthur Newman said.

"She was the life of the party," Small said. "She had nothing bad to say about anybody. But she would defend herself and her family."

She said it was her niece?s posts about her marriage plans that may have set Allen off. Small said Allen "had an obsession" with Bailey, from what she said her niece had told her.

"She said he told her, 'If I can't have you, nobody can have you.'"

Baldwin said that Bailey and Allen had briefly dated about a year ago but that she no longer wanted anything to do with him. He said she had told him Allen had hit her and once put a gun to her face.

?I would tell her, ?You need to stay away from this dude,?? Baldwin said.

Neither Baldwin nor Small knew of any restraining orders against Allen.

Baldwin said he and Bailey started dating about six months ago, just after he began working at the mechanic shop where she had been employed at the time. They planned to get married, he said.

?She was outgoing and happy,? Baldwin said. ?She was always trying to help people and make sure everyone was taken care of. She was a genuinely good person.?

This is really F*d up. I really feel for her family.

I am wondering if the cops were notified when the company remotely shut down the truck? Can you get the actual location of the vehicle when remotely shutting it down or just pings like a cell phone? Then again it looks like the Mississippi police were kinda lazy not even bothering to show up for shots fired.

Oh, this is how it is going to be. I see how you are. You have the power to fix, but you decided to shame me instead. Just because you're 15 and your eyesight and attention to detail is perfect, you like to make fun of us old folks. Just wait. I will follow you around and highlight anything I see you do wrong. You're gonna wish you had fixed that.
