Yuka Morimoto (8), Was Found Dead Beneath An Inflatable Island In A Public Swimming Pool

Weird. She was wearing a life jacket. I wonder if she stood up under one of the higher sections just as another kid jumped on it & got knocked unconscious

8-year-old girl dies, found beneath inflatable island at swimming pool
KYODO NEWS KYODO NEWS - 2 hours ago - 14:51 | All, Japan

An eight-year-old girl drowned in a swimming pool and was confirmed dead at a Tokyo hospital on Thursday after she was found underneath an inflatable island.

Yuka Morimoto from the city of Asaka in Saitama Prefecture, north of Tokyo, was found in the 1.2-1.9-meter-deep pool which features a floating island inside Toshimaen amusement park, said the Metropolitan Police Department, pointing to the possibility she may have become trapped somehow.

The police said seven lifeguards were keeping watch over the poolside at all times and the girl was said to have been wearing a life jacket. She came with her parents and younger sister, and was found during a regular inspection at 2 p.m., two hours after the last inspection, the police added.

The operator of Toshimaen closed all swimming pools Friday and said it will not reopen the section that includes the pool where the incident happened, an area that requires an extra entrance fee, until it can be determined what happened.

8-year-old girl drowns in Toshimaen pool
An eight-year-old girl drowned after apparently getting trapped under an inflatable float in a pool at Toshimaen amusement park in Tokyo?s Nerima Ward on Thursday.

The body of Yuka Morimoto was found by lifeguards under the float during a routine inspection at around 2 p.m., park officials said. At the time, she had been playing in the Fuwa Fuwa Water Land section of the amusement park and seven lifeguards were on duty, watching the pool.

The floats are part of an attraction, called ?Big Island? and can be walked on. The deepest part of the pool is 1.9 meters.

Morimoto, who came to the pool for the day from Saitama Prefecture with her parents and young sister, was wearing a life jacket which is required of all people entering the pool. Police suspect she got stuck under the equipment and was unable to surface.

At the time of the accident, there were about 3,800 people at the pool. Park officials said all pools were closed Friday while investigations continued. They will reopen Saturday but Fuwa Fuwa Water Land will remain closed.
    3800 people!

Those islands are hella dangerous. Life jackets would have kept her on top of the water, but those islands weigh a literal shit ton, and if she were stuck under one, she would have been held down by the sheer weight of the island.

Those islands obscure your vision as a guard. Every square foot of those floats could hold someone under water, and if you have many in a row, there is no way a guard would be able to see someone drowning.
Don't like what I have to say? I respect that. Go fuck yourself.
