Erika Gaytan attended the El Reencuentro Norteno concert at the El Paso County Coliseum the night of July 13 and was last seen by her date either late that night or early in the morning on July 14, according to El Paso Police.

The man she was on a date with, who has not been identified publicly by police, told investigators that Gaytan had ordered an Uber when he last saw her, KVIA-TV reports. He said he left the concert venue without her, according to the news station.

Gaytan’s friends told the news station that she had posted several photos from the concert on Facebook and appeared to be enjoying the night.

Police told the El Paso Times that Erika Gaytan could be in danger. Investigators have not released details about why they believe she could be at risk.

Investigators initially did not suspect foul play, but later said they are considering Gaytan an endangered missing person. The El Paso Police Crimes Against Persons unit uncovered “information that she could be in danger,” according to the El Paso Times.

Gaytan faced 66 charges of credit card abuse — and faced a related case from 2017 where she was accused of criminal mischief — at the time she vanished, police confirmed.

In fact, police noted that Gaytan was on El Paso's "Most Wanted" list back in 2017.

Gaytan was scheduled to be in court for the criminal mischief charge on Friday — as well as being set for another court appearance in September.

Police said, however, that investigators at this time do not consider the charges to be a factor in her disappearance, and she is still considered to be endangered.

El Paso authorities on Friday put out a renewed call for information from the public as they continue looking for Erika Andrea Gaytan, a 29-year-old mother who vanished more than a month ago after going on a concert date.

"Detectives know that someone has information as to what happened to Erika Gaytan and are asking for help in finding her," El Paso police Det. Javier Sambrano said in a statement Friday. "Due to the amount of time Gaytan has been missing and the circumstances, her disappearance is considered suspicious."

Police had said in late July that they were following multiple leads in Gaytan's disappearance, but they offered no new insights into the investigation on Friday.

Gaytan, of El Paso, was last seen in the evening of July 13 or the early morning hours of July 14 after attending a concert at the El Paso County Coliseum with a date. The man she was on a date with said they parted ways at the Coliseum, where Gaytan called for an Uber.

Sambrano said Friday that detectives had learned from family members that "Gaytan has no history of disappearing and is very unlike her to not be in communication with her family and be without her 7-year-old son."

However, ABC-7 previously reported Gaytan was facing dozens of criminal charges involving credit card abuse at the time she went missing. Investigators had said they didn't think those charges were a factor in her disappearance.

A man has been arrested in the death of a 29-year-old mother in Texas who went missing after going on a date in July, according to reports on Wednesday.

KFOX14 reported Ricardo Marquez, 28, is accused of murdering Erika Andrea Gaytan inside his east El Paso home, and that he allegedly used his brother’s Jeep to move her body.

Authorities said the woman's body has not been recovered.

“Her body has not been found, but based on forensic and other evidence gathered over the course of the investigation, detectives have reason to believe that she is deceased and was the victim of a murder,” police spokesman Enrique Carrillo said in a statement, The Associated Press reported.

Gaytan was last heard from July 13 after going to the "El Reencuentro Norteno" concert at the El Paso County Coliseum.

Marquez’s arrest affidavit said he and Gaytan attended the concert together, and he was the last person to have been seen with her.

Marquez told authorities he and Gaytan drove to his home after the concert and got into a fight.

The arrest affidavit said the alleged killer asked his brother via a text message to borrow his Jeep Wrangler at 11 a.m. on July 14. Fifteen minutes later, Marquez asked his sister for a shovel and picked it up 10 minutes after that, according to the affidavit.

The shovel was seized as evidence, as well as sand-filled shoes “visually consistent with the sand in the desert area off East Montana," authorities said.

Investigators said they found what appears to be blood in the Jeep.

Marquez is being held on a $1 million bail.

Man suspected of killing Erika Gaytan to stand trial Sept. 10

An El Paso man is now slated to go on trial this fall for the murder of a woman who authorities contend was killed after going on a date with him nearly two years ago, according to court records from a status conference held Monday in the case.

Ricardo Marquez, 28, will stand trial before a jury on Sept. 10 in the presumed death of Erika Andrea Gaytan, 29, whose body has yet to be recovered. She was last heard from on July 13, 2019 before attending a concert with Marquez at the El Paso County Coliseum.

While her body has not been found, police and prosecutors have said they believe Gaytan is deceased and was the victim of a murder based on forensic and other evidence gathered by detectives.

Gaytan’s family has said she would never have gone off and left her 7-year-old son behind.

According to a police affidavit previously reported on by ABC-7, Marquez told detectives he had taken Gaytan to his home after their date, but they argued and Gaytan used a ride-hailing app to get a lift. However, police said no such order was made from her phone.

Marquez’s phone records showed he borrowed his brother’s sport utility vehicle and a shovel from his sister the next morning. A search of Marquez’s home turned up the shovel, sand-filled shoes and plastic restraints. Surveillance video showed the SUV headed toward a desert area, then returning an hour later, according to the affidavit.

Laboratory analysis of a rear floor mat by the state crime lab revealed traces of blood determined to have come from Gaytan, the affidavit stated.

Despite having his bond lowered last year from $1 million to $250,000, Marquez remains held in the downtown jail as he awaits trial.

Jury issue leads to mistral in Erika Gaytan murder trial

"An issue with the jury" led to the mistrial of the case involving Ricardo Marquez who is charged with killing Erika Gaytan, The lead prosecutor on the case said during a press conference on Friday.

"The previous trial once the first witness had started testifying, it was disclosed that there were members of the jury panel that for legal reasons they could not continue participating and therefore the judge declared a mistrial," said El Paso District Attorney Yvonne Rosales.

Why didn't they fully vet the members of the jury prior to the trial?

Eh. It happens. We were in a car crash years ago and they gave us the list of potential jurors so we could strike anybody we knew. One of them was a vendor at the store where mom worked, but she didn't know his last name. He was just "Jake, the bread guy" to her.
