Bailey Rose Carlson, 23, was charged with not stopping to render aid in an accident involving death, a second-degree felony. She was arrested by the Temple Police Department and was held in the Bell County Jail Friday.

Carlson told McGregor Police she was plugging in her cellphone when she hit something. She didn?t go back to see what she struck, but thought it was a mailbox. Carlson told officers she saw the news and realized it must have been Kemp that she struck with her pickup when she was on her way to Crawford from Belton, according to an arrest affidavit.

Debris from the accident scene linked trucks similar to Carlson?s in age, make and model to the fatality. That debris was a match to Carlson?s F-150, the affidavit said.
